Julia is walking in the woods, waiting, when she hears some steps. She moves towards them, and it turns out to be Harrison. "I had no idea you were also taken by walks in the woods," he says to her. Julia lies that she comes out there to think. "You came towards me as if you were expecting someone," Harrison adds. Julia turns to him suddenly and asks "Why do you think that?" Harrison, confused, says he meant nothing by it, only "usually when a woman hears strange footsteps in the woods, she'd back away instead of move towards them." Julia smiles and says "Perhaps I am no ordinary woman." She stares at Harrison's ring, and he looks at her strangely.
After the titles, Harrison offers to walk Julia back to Collinwood, but she refuses, saying she'd rather "stay out here a little while longer. I haven't quite enjoyed the night enough yet." Harrison asks "Are you feeling all right? Your eyes look very tired..." Julia turns away from him, saying "I...I haven't slept well lately. That's all." Harrison remarks "Well, I hope you get some rest. You are a doctor, I suppose you must have drops or something for that redness." Julia answers "Yes, I do, back in my room. Perhaps before I go to bed." Harrison says goodnight and walks away. He stops a moment to look back towards Julia and thinks a moment, and then continues on. Meanwhile, Angelique is putting on her coat and getting ready to go out at the old house. Vicky and Barnabas are sitting while Vicky consoles Barnabas about his all too brief encounter with Sarah's spirit. Barnabas asks Angelique where she is going, and she only says "out...for a walk." Barnabas says "You shouldn't feel responsible for what happened. I was the one who broke the circle. Perhaps Stokes is wrong about how Sarah feels." Angelique forces a smile but leaves anyway. Vicky comments to Barnabas how much she thinks Angelique has changed. Barnabas is happy to hear her say that, and comments that "without her powers to corrupt her, her best womanly qualities have all come forward." Vicky feels a little guilty for having doubted her, but Barnabas tells her "No one doubted her more than myself. It took me a long time to see what the truth was. There is no shame in that." Vicky tells Barnabas she will go after Angelique to bring her back and tell her. Barnabas leads her to the door and after she leaves, looks sadly at the spot on the floor where Sarah vanished.
Julia still waits in the woods, and this time Nicholas finds her. "I got your note after meeting with the master," he says. Julia smiles and says "I hope the master explained everything to you." Nicholas says "Only in riddles. Something about producing chaos in Barnabas Collins' life by removing love." Julia laughs and says "Yes. I must undo something I did long ago, something that served me at the time but must be undone now." Nicholas asks "What do you mean?" Julia smiles and tells Nicholas to hide. "Quickly! I sense she will be here soon....simply watch." Nicholas, wondering, moves behind a tree and some brush. In a moment, Angelique approaches the area and sees Julia. "Julia!" she says. "I didn't expect to find you out here." Julia lies again that she came out to "look at the stars and enjoy the night air." Angelique lies and says the same thing when Julia asks her why she is out there. "Is everything all right with Barnabas?" Julia asks. Angelique turns away, and lies "Yes... everything is fine. You needn't be his keeper anymore, Julia. I am his wife now." Julia answers "I was only wondering. You seem upset." Angelique says "I am not upset. I am sorry, I only wish to enjoy the night air....alone. Like you." Julia says "Then I'll go on with my walk. Goodnight." Julia walks away as Angelique moves in the opposite direction. Julia comes to Nicholas and shushes him before he can say anything. "Simply watch," Julia says. Angelique walks and she starts to hear a faint voice calling her. At first, she shrugs it off, but the voice gets louder and louder in the wind, calling "Angelique.....Angelique......" Angelique asks "Who is there? Who is it?" The voice only repeats her name, and when Angelique demands to know who is there, suddenly a hand appears floating before her, pointing an accusatory finger. Angelique steps away from it scared, demanding to know who it is, but all the voice says is "Angelique....you shall pay.....you shall die...." Angelique is growing more terrified as she looks closer at the hand and sees a large diamond ring on it.... it's a woman's hand. Angelique starts to run, but she finds herself at the edge of the cliff at Widow's Hill. She turns to escape, but from out of the shadows, she sees the pointing finger approach...and from out of the darkness steps the ghost of Josette, in her wedding dress! Her veil is lowered, and she points her finger at Angelique saying "You brought me here to die....and now you shall pay..." Angelique yells "No! No! Get away!" as the spirit moves closer. Julia and Nicholas are watching and smiling as Josette, moving closer to Angelique, adds "And this is what awaits you down below, among the rocks.....", lifting her veil to reveal her horribly disfigured face. Angelique, backed up against the edge of the cliff, screams as Josette moves closer.
Nicholas tells Julia that "We are not to kill Angelique this way!" Julia shushes him, and says "I have confidence in Angelique. After all, someone with her powers should be able to find her way out of this situation quite easily." Nicholas snaps "Her powers are limited! They are..." and then he thinks a moment. Julia smiles and says "She will soon be consumed by the powers I have restored to her, but for now, they may save her." Josette moves closer and closer to Angelique, who slowly raises her hands and says "Spirit of Josette, begone! I command you to rest! I command you to return to your grave!" Josette stops moving, but does not vanish. Angelique thinks a moment and we hear her think "I felt something... something I have not felt in a long time...the power! I have the power again!" Suddenly, Angelique is more confident, and says "Spirit of Josette, I command and control you now. You cannot and will not harm me. You will tell me things I need to know." Julia and Nicholas get nervous, and Julia says "I'd better see to this." Angelique continues "Spirit of Josette, you must tell me of your former master. Who sent you to me and why?" Before Josette can answer, Vicky steps out of the woods, saying "Angelique! I heard you scream, why...." but then she sees the disfigured Josette and screams herself. As Angelique is distracted by Vicky, the spirit of Josette vanishes. Angelique, frustrated, yells "No! You cannot go without telling me what I need to know!" But Josette is gone. Angelique runs to Vicky and tries to calm her down. "What was that?" Vicky asks. Angelique answers "A ghost from my past. It seems there are many spirits whom I have wronged." Vicky looks at Angelique and says "You sent the spirit away. I heard you. Angelique, you have more power than you've admitted to Barnabas!" Angelique doesn't know what to say. Nicholas looks at Julia and says he understands. Julia smiles an evil smile and says "Her powers will turn her to hate as they did in the past. It will be only the beginning of the end for the Collins family. And then, I will have my revenge upon her as well."
Angelique argues with Vicky over whether or not she has her powers back. Vicky insists that she'd better be honest with Barnabas about what has happened, since "those powers must have come from something evil." Angelique answers "Perhaps not. Perhaps they returned to me when I needed them most, to save my life." Vicky answers that "the black arts have never done anyone any good around Collinwood." Angelique answers "Vicky, there were times when I had my powers that I tried to help Barnabas. I tried desperately to help him and others." Vicky answers "But more often you only tried to help yourself. You hurt others around you. Power corrupts, Angelique, don't you see? You must tell Barnabas and renounce them." Angelique answers "I cannot do that." Vicky wants to know why, and Angelique answers "Because if they came from Nicholas, as I suspect they might have, I will need them to fight for Barnabas. They may be our only defense." Vicky thinks this over, and says "What could you use those powers for in order to help Barnabas?" Angelique looks at Vicky and answers "I think we both know one answer to that." The two head out of the woods. Meanwhile, Julia arrives back at Collinwood and finds Harrison up having a drink. "Are you feeling better, Doctor?" he asks her. She says she does, but Harrison remarks "You still look tired. Perhaps you should go to sleep." Julia says "Yes, it's been quite an evening.....I think I will turn in." As Julia goes upstairs, Harrison walks to Barnabas' portrait and begins to stare at it. He looks upstairs for a moment, and then back to the portrait. Suddenly, his mouth gapes open as he says "Those eyes!"

Episode 1372
Aired: Tuesday September 28, 1971
After a replay of Monday's close and the titles, the silhouette steps into the room, and we see that it is not Sarah, but Vicky. "Vicky!" gasps Barnabas. Vicky asks what is happening. She was on her way back to Collinwood when the storm suddenly started and thought she might stop at the old house for a while until it cleared up. She sees the candles in a circle on the floor and then looks at Angelique and asks "What were you doing?" Stokes answers that they were "conducting an exercise." Barnabas finishes the thought by telling Vicky they were "trying to reach Sarah." Vicky answers "But I don't understand. It doesn't look like you were holding a seance." Stokes answers "Not so much a seance, Miss Winters, than a casting of a spell." Vicky looks at Angelique and asks "What kind of spell? Involving Sarah?" Angelique answers "I told them it wouldn't work. I do not have that kind of power." Vicky asks "What kind of power? I thought all of your powers were gone!" Barnabas says "Professor Stokes believed he had found a way to bring Sarah back to life." Vicky, shocked, says "Back to life? Here? Now?" Barnabas nods. "She still has not appeared to me. My heart aches at the thought of losing her forever. I thought of Daphne and how she found herself here in this century. I thought it might be possible to duplicate the spell." Vicky is skeptical and says "I don't know, Barnabas. I've found myself journeying through time for reasons unknown to me, but somehow I found my way back here because I belong here. Sarah belongs to another time." Barnabas defiantly says "No! She was never meant to die so young. There must be a way." Stokes answers "Perhaps there is." Barnabas asks what he means, and Stokes answers that the new way may require Miss Winters' cooperation.
Nicholas is preparing to leave his house, grabbing his hat and coat. When he tries to open the front door, he cannot. Puzzled, he struggles with the knob and tries to force it open, but it does not move. Suddenly, there is dark laughter in the halls. Nicholas looks around and demands to know what is happening. "You have forgotten your master so soon, Nicholas?" a booming voice says. Suddenly scared and humble, Nicholas answers "No, of course I haven't, my master. What do you require of me?" The voice answers "You may open the door now." Nicholas slowly opens the door, but instead of the outside, there is a staircase leading down towards a red glare. Nicholas gulps and starts down the stairs. Deep in hell, Diablos paces and awaits Nicholas as he comes down the steps. "Why have you summoned me, my master?" Nicholas asks. "Do you need to ask?" Diablos answers. "You have altered the plan. Judah was intended for Barnabas Collins. Why have you disobeyed me, Nicholas?" Nicholas shudders as we cut back to the old house. Vicky asks Stokes what he thinks she should do. "I am sorry to say this to you, Angelique. But I believe one reason we had trouble contacting the spirit of Sarah Collins was you." A little offended, Angelique says "That child had no reason to fear me. She knew nothing of what was happening." Stokes tries to calm her, saying "I understand that. But nonetheless, when Miss Winters journeyed into the past, she had extensive contact with Sarah Collins as her governess. Sarah would know her and most likely trust her. Her presence within the circle may be just what we need." Angelique and Vicky exchange slightly catty glares as Stokes explains this. Barnabas takes Angelique's hand and says "Please don't be hurt. Stokes may be right. After all, we are dealing with a child." Vicky looks at Barnabas and asks "Is it right for us to do this? I feel like we are interfering with her destiny somehow." Barnabas answers "I refuse to believe her destiny is to wander the Earth as a lonely spirit. Would you wish that upon anyone, Vicky?" Vicky thinks a moment, and then says "Okay. I will help you." Barnabas smiles.
In hell, Diablos says to Nicholas "So you believe Julia Hoffman could do more damage than Barnabas Collins?" Nicholas answers "Yes. She is above suspicion, and is trusted by all at Collinwood." Diablos laughs and answers "And she is most trusted by Maggie Evans, isn't she Nicholas?" Nicholas gets defensive, and says "That's not it at all!" Diablos booms "I enjoy when you lie, Nicholas, but not to me! It is no matter...if you desire the Evans girl, perhaps she could be your reward of sorts..... if this plan of yours comes together." Nicholas assures Diablos that it will, and Diablos reminds Nicholas "the destruction of the Collins family is the only way to judge success in this matter. After your many failures in the past, and even Judah's failure, you must not fail me again. Time has almost run out." Nicholas says "I understand." Diablos asks "And how to you intend to set the wheels in motion, now that Dr. Hoffman is of use to us?" Nicholas smiles and answers "Barnabas trusts her with his life. What more needs to be said?" Diablos snaps "Much more! We need to produce chaos in the life of Barnabas Collins. We need to undo what love has done." Nicholas says he doesn't understand, but Diablos answers "Judah will explain it to you. I have given this task to him." Nicholas complains "But I was to be in charge!" Diablos waves his hand and says "It is done!" and suddenly, Nicholas is back in his living room. He sees a card leaning against a clock on his desk. When he picks it up to read it, it says "The edge of the woods near Widow's Hill..... Signed, J." Nicholas gets a little scared.

Vicky says she understands (there's a first time for everything). Angelique repeats the incantation as the storm and wind begin again. Stokes nods at Vicky and Vicky calls out "Sarah! Sarah Collins! Please return to us, Sarah! Your family loves you and misses you....we want you to come home....please, Sarah! Come home and stay with those who love and miss you!" There is a clap of thunder as the doors fly open again. As the wind howls, Sarah walks in slowly. She turns the corner and sees Vicky first, who gasps "Sarah! You heard me!" Sarah nods, and Barnabas breaks the circle to move towards her. "Sarah! You've come back to me!" he says, but Stokes yells "No, Barnabas! The spell is not completed!" As Barnabas moves towards Sarah, she vanishes again. Barnabas reaches the empty spot where she was standing and grasps at the air, lamenting "No...Sarah! Come back! Come back to me!" Vicky and Angelique look upon Barnabas with pity.

Grayson Hall's voiceover: "It is a night of terror for Julia Hoffman. Under the influence of the evil Nicholas Blair, she has found herself at the mercy of his dark powers. And while she has been able to protect the Collins family in the past, especially Barnabas Collins, Julia Hoffman will now become powerless to prevent the theft of her identity by a long time enemy of the Collins family...."
In a repeat of Friday's close, Julia stands before Nicholas in a trance while Nicholas holds a hand on the blue cloth covering Judah Zachary's severed head. Nicholas says "You will accept what is about to happen." Julia repeats "I will accept what is about to happen." Nicholas smiles and says "Good. I had originally intended this for Barnabas Collins, but a new inspiration came to me after talking with you and Harrison. This is for you, Doctor Julia Hoffman!" and with a "Behold!" Nicholas yanks the cover off the glass box with Judah's head. Julia gasps "Judah! Judah Zachary!" in shock, but Nicholas repeats "You will accept what is about to happen!" Julia struggles to say "No...no...it can't be! We destroyed you in the past!" Nicholas yells "You will accept what is about to happen!" Julia tries to fight, but can't help saying "I.....will....accept....what....is....about to....happen!" as Judah's eyes open and stare directly at her. They are red, bloodshot... unforgettable! Nicholas says "Now! Now! The time is now!" Judah's head starts to smile as Julia gasps for air. Julia yells in pain and collapses to the floor. Nicholas stands over her unconscious body and laughs. As he continues laughing, Julia opens her eyes....and they are now the same red bloodshot eyes we have seen before....
Julia blinks a couple of times and stands up slowly. She looks around the room and then at herself. "What has happened?" she demands. "A mirror! Now, Nicholas! A mirror!" Nicholas answers "There has been a change in plans," but Julia demands a mirror again. Nicholas hands her a mirror and she is shocked when she looks in it. "We were not meant to possess this one, Nicholas! This was not in the plan!" Julia snaps. Nicholas answers "I told you that I have altered the plan. You are now the conduit of Judah's spirit. This is the way it must be!" Julia smashes the mirror to the floor and angrily says "We were meant to possess Barnabas Collins! Our destiny was decided upon long ago!" Nicholas answers "Destiny can be changed through the actions of men!" Julia scoffs. Nicholas continues "We will be much more powerful by possessing Julia Hoffman. You see, Barnabas Collins trusts her more than anyone else. Even more than his own wife." Julia frowns "Miranda.... oh, how I have longed to see her destroyed. To see her suffer and die slowly at my hands....these hands...." Nicholas laughs a little and says "You will have your revenge, Judah. Revenge on the woman who betrayed you twice...once as Miranda DuVal and again as Angelique in the guise of Valerie Collins in 1840." Julia smiles an evil smile, but then looks concerned. "She will suspect me in this guise," Julia says. "She already hates Julia Hoffman. Why did you change the plans? Having Barnabas Collins, the man she loves enough to betray her powers....having Barnabas destroy her was what we intended!" Nicholas answers "You will understand the reasons in due time." Julia snaps "Will our master understand?" Nicholas turns away as Julia continues "You have not consulted our master, have you Nicholas?" Nicholas answers that "our master will understand since the end result will be the same." Julia sneers "Perhaps you'd better make sure, Nicholas. Perhaps you'd better make sure." Nicholas thinks about this.
Stokes and Barnabas are having tea in the old house living room. Stokes tells Barnabas that he has researched "many different methods of reanimating lost souls" but has not found anything "foolproof." Barnabas insists that it must be possible somehow, "if Petofi did it with Daphne." Stokes agrees, noting that "Daphne had been restored to life before as well." Barnabas remembers and nods, as Stokes continues "Only that time it was from a spell cast my niece and David when they were possessed. I felt researching the spell they cast would prove more fruitful for our purposes." Barnabas asks "Then do you think it's possible? Will it be possible to restore Sarah?" Stokes says "I'm not sure. I'm also not sure of the risks in trying." Barnabas wants to know what he means, and Stokes answers "We don't know for sure that Sarah's memories will be intact. If they are not, she will have no idea who she is or how she got here." Barnabas answers "Perhaps that will be better," but Stokes replies "that means she will have no memory of you being her brother. She will have no reason to love you as her spirit does now." Barnabas is hurt by this prospect, and answers "Daphne had no memory of who she was, yet she was still attracted to Quentin." Stokes answers "There's no way of predicting. When David and Hallie brought back Daphne originally, she held all of her memories from the nineteenth century. By using the same spell, Sarah may carry her eighteenth century memories into the present." Barnabas smiles and says "Then she will know me as her brother." Stokes answers "Yes, she will. She will also know she is in the wrong place and time." Barnabas answers "We can take care of that later. After all, she will be comfortable with me here. And Vicky as well." Stokes asks "And what about David, when he returns from school? Or Maggie Evans? Or anyone else Sarah came into contact with as a spirit? Don't you seem Barnabas, you will have to explain to that little child why she is no longer dead. It will be a great shock to her. That is the risk we are taking." Barnabas looks at Stokes.
Nicholas tells Julia that there is no need to consult "the master" about their plans for Barnabas and Angelique. Julia answers "The bargain was to destroy the Collins family. It always has been. I have a feeling that you have altered these plans for your own agenda." Nicholas replies "And so what if it have? The result will be the same. Judah, you live again! Your powers have returned to you!" Julia answers "I cannot function within this body!" Nicholas answers "Think of it as a temporary arrangement. You only need to possess Julia Hoffman as long as it takes to destroy Barnabas." Julia snaps "And then what?" Nicholas smiles and says "And then you will move on." Julia answers "I only want to move on towards destroying all of the Collins family. Stokes has placed several candles in a circle on the floor. Angelique enters and asks what is going on. "It is fortunate you have returned," Stokes tells her. "According to everything I have read about this particular exercise, it works better with the energy from three life forces than only two." Angelique asks what he means, and Barnabas explains that they are attempting a spell to restore Sarah. "It is similar to a spell once cast to restore Daphne," he says. Angelique gets scared, and says "This was one of Judah Zachary's spells, Barnabas! It is exceedingly dangerous!" Stokes answers "Yes, we know." Angelique says "You have no idea, Professor. Once this spell is begun and the doors to the world beyond are opened, there are many spirits and forces that can be released." Stokes answers that he is "very much aware of the dangers" after having read "extensively" about the legends as to when these spells were cast. Barnabas pleads with Angelique that he must "save" Sarah from "an eternity as a wandering spirit....all alone, without anyone to truly love her." Angelique feels a little guilty and tells Barnabas she understands, but worries about "what powers will also be unleashed." Stokes answers "Perhaps you are the ideal person to help us then. If you are familiar with this spell, perhaps you should speak it." Angelique snaps "My powers are no longer what they were." Barnabas answers "Nicholas restored a small measure of your powers, perhaps that will be all we shall need." Angelique answers "Barnabas, every time I use those powers I will be drawn closer to what Nicholas represents." Barnabas takes her hands and says "This one time. All I ask is this one time." Angelique sighs, and starts to light the candles. She tells Stokes and Barnabas to stand with her in a circle around the candles as she begins the spell. "I call upon the powers of life and death, of light and of darkness..." she begins as the wind begins to howl. "I call upon the rulers of the spirits of the dead to stand aside and to let the doorways separating our worlds to open.....I call upon the spirits to heed my command...." All the lights in the house go out except for the candles in the circle as a storm thunders outside. "I command the spirit of Sarah Collins to walk through those doors.....Sarah Collins, hear me....hear my voice from the land of the living...you shall be restored to this land when you walk through that door....what was once spirit will be flesh and blood, with a beating heart and sound mind...Sarah Collins...I command you to step forward!" The wind blows the front doors open, and in a flash of lightning, Stokes, Barnabas & Angelique see the silhouette of someone standing in the door....
Grayson Hall's voiceover: "It is a night of terror for Julia Hoffman. Under the influence of the evil Nicholas Blair, she has found herself at the mercy of his dark powers. In a repeat of Friday's close, Julia stands before Nicholas in a trance while Nicholas holds a hand on the blue cloth covering Judah Zachary's severed head. Nicholas says "You will accept what is about to happen." Julia repeats "I will accept what is about to happen." Nicholas smiles and says "Good. I had originally intended this for Barnabas Collins, but a new inspiration came to me after talking with you and Harrison. This is for you, Doctor Julia Hoffman!" and with a "Behold!" Nicholas yanks the cover off the glass box with Judah's head. Julia gasps "Judah! Judah Zachary!" in shock, but Nicholas repeats "You will accept what is about to happen!" Julia struggles to say "No...no...it can't be! We destroyed you in the past!" Nicholas yells "You will accept what is about to happen!" Julia tries to fight, but can't help saying "I.....will....accept....what....is....about to....happen!" as Judah's eyes open and stare directly at her. They are red, bloodshot... unforgettable! Nicholas says "Now! Now! The time is now!" Judah's head starts to smile as Julia gasps for air. Julia yells in pain and collapses to the floor. Nicholas stands over her unconscious body and laughs. As he continues laughing, Julia opens her eyes....and they are now the same red bloodshot eyes we have seen before....
Julia blinks a couple of times and stands up slowly. She looks around the room and then at herself. "What has happened?" she demands. "A mirror! Now, Nicholas! A mirror!" Nicholas answers "There has been a change in plans," but Julia demands a mirror again. Nicholas hands her a mirror and she is shocked when she looks in it. "We were not meant to possess this one, Nicholas! This was not in the plan!" Julia snaps. Nicholas answers "I told you that I have altered the plan. You are now the conduit of Judah's spirit. This is the way it must be!" Julia smashes the mirror to the floor and angrily says "We were meant to possess Barnabas Collins! Our destiny was decided upon long ago!" Nicholas answers "Destiny can be changed through the actions of men!" Julia scoffs. Nicholas continues "We will be much more powerful by possessing Julia Hoffman. You see, Barnabas Collins trusts her more than anyone else. Even more than his own wife." Julia frowns "Miranda.... oh, how I have longed to see her destroyed. To see her suffer and die slowly at my hands....these hands...." Nicholas laughs a little and says "You will have your revenge, Judah. Revenge on the woman who betrayed you twice...once as Miranda DuVal and again as Angelique in the guise of Valerie Collins in 1840." Julia smiles an evil smile, but then looks concerned. "She will suspect me in this guise," Julia says. "She already hates Julia Hoffman. Why did you change the plans? Having Barnabas Collins, the man she loves enough to betray her powers....having Barnabas destroy her was what we intended!" Nicholas answers "You will understand the reasons in due time." Julia snaps "Will our master understand?" Nicholas turns away as Julia continues "You have not consulted our master, have you Nicholas?" Nicholas answers that "our master will understand since the end result will be the same." Julia sneers "Perhaps you'd better make sure, Nicholas. Perhaps you'd better make sure." Nicholas thinks about this.
Stokes and Barnabas are having tea in the old house living room. Stokes tells Barnabas that he has researched "many different methods of reanimating lost souls" but has not found anything "foolproof." Barnabas insists that it must be possible somehow, "if Petofi did it with Daphne." Stokes agrees, noting that "Daphne had been restored to life before as well." Barnabas remembers and nods, as Stokes continues "Only that time it was from a spell cast my niece and David when they were possessed. I felt researching the spell they cast would prove more fruitful for our purposes." Barnabas asks "Then do you think it's possible? Will it be possible to restore Sarah?" Stokes says "I'm not sure. I'm also not sure of the risks in trying." Barnabas wants to know what he means, and Stokes answers "We don't know for sure that Sarah's memories will be intact. If they are not, she will have no idea who she is or how she got here." Barnabas answers "Perhaps that will be better," but Stokes replies "that means she will have no memory of you being her brother. She will have no reason to love you as her spirit does now." Barnabas is hurt by this prospect, and answers "Daphne had no memory of who she was, yet she was still attracted to Quentin." Stokes answers "There's no way of predicting. When David and Hallie brought back Daphne originally, she held all of her memories from the nineteenth century. By using the same spell, Sarah may carry her eighteenth century memories into the present." Barnabas smiles and says "Then she will know me as her brother." Stokes answers "Yes, she will. She will also know she is in the wrong place and time." Barnabas answers "We can take care of that later. After all, she will be comfortable with me here. And Vicky as well." Stokes asks "And what about David, when he returns from school? Or Maggie Evans? Or anyone else Sarah came into contact with as a spirit? Don't you seem Barnabas, you will have to explain to that little child why she is no longer dead. It will be a great shock to her. That is the risk we are taking." Barnabas looks at Stokes.

Alexandra Moltke's voiceover: "My name is Victoria Winters. A crucial point in time has come to the great house at Collinwood and all who dwell within. Changes are taking place that could affect the future of the family for years to come. Plans are made by everyone for a happy future, but oftentimes random events change those plans and alter fates. And as it is the case far too often at Collinwood, those fates are often far removed from happiness...."
Liz enters the foyer looking happy to be home, as Carolyn comes down the stairs to greet her. Liz says Alan is coming from the car with the bags. Carolyn asks her mother how she enjoyed her trip to Boston, and Liz remarks that the city "somehow looked so much more alive, so much more beautiful" simply by virtue of Alan being there. Carolyn is happy to hear that. Liz tells Carolyn to find Vicky and Roger and "anyone else" so that she can make "a very important announcement." Carolyn smiles and asks "Mother are you...." Liz smiles back and tells Carolyn to gather everyone together. Carolyn goes back upstairs as Liz takes off her gloves and admires a large diamond ring on her left hand.
After the titles, Roger and Vicky come downstairs as Roger wonders aloud what "all this fuss could be about." Vicky looks at him incredulously and says "Isn't it obvious?" He looks puzzled, and Vicky remarks "Isn't that just like a man!" as the two of them enter the drawing room where Liz, Alan & Carolyn are waiting. Roger asks them how they enjoyed Boston, and Alan says they had a "wonderful time." Liz remarks how well she got along with Alan's two daughters, remarking how "comfortable" they felt around her. Vicky says that's wonderful, while Roger seems perplexed over the idea of "comfortable." He asks "Liz, what are you getting at?" Liz walks to Roger and takes his hands, saying "Roger, I know even though you are younger than me, you've always felt somewhat of a responsibility to watch over me. I want you to know I thought of you deeply when making this decision." Roger says "Decision?" and then notices the diamond ring on her hand. He looks at Liz, and then at Alan, who takes Liz' hand and smiles. Liz announces the obvious and says "Alan and I plan to be married." Carolyn kisses Liz and congratulates her, and Vicky follows. Carolyn kisses Alan, and Alan awkwardly holds out his hand for Vicky. She hesitates a moment, but then gives him a tight hug, saying "I'm so happy for you both." Alan looks at Vicky and says "I'm happy you're here to be part of this." Alan moves to Roger, who shakes his hand but looks a little distant. "Roger, don't be so shocked by it all!" Alan says to him. "I'm only making up for a lot of lost years." Roger forces a smile and congratulates them, but adds "It's just that I'm not used to being in this situation. Honestly, I never thought Liz would remarry after Paul." Liz says "I never thought so either, but Roger, I've never been so happy before." Roger says he knows, but it will take "a while to get used to." Alan looks over Roger, and says "Perhaps we should have a drink in the study and let the ladies discuss mother and daughter affairs." Liz wonders why Alan said this, but he kisses her and gives her a "I need to talk to Roger alone" look. The two men go to the study, and Roger says "I suppose I should offer you a drink." Alan takes the drink, and says "Roger, I'll be upfront with you. I think you're worried about the Collins money." Roger tries to deny this, but Alan cuts him off. "No, no," he says. "Let me finish. Liz and I discussed all about it, and we agreed that I will claim absolutely nothing of the Collins estate." Roger is stunned, and says "Nothing?" Alan takes a drink and says "Nothing but Liz. Roger, I've had a successful medical practice for years. I'm no fortune hunter or opportunist. I can understand your paranoia after Paul Stoddard, and I'm not offended." Roger clinks glasses with Alan and says "I would have never doubted you." Alan smiles and says "Besides, anything Liz offers me will go directly to Vicky. I feel I owe it to her. I really want her to meet my daughters too." Roger thinks this is a good idea, and they both drink together.
Back in the drawing room, Liz, Vicky & Carolyn are discussing wedding plans, where to have it, when, who to invite, etc when Julia walks in, looking groggy. Liz says hello, and Carolyn says that "Mother has wonderful news! She and Alan are getting married!" Julia manages to smile and says that's wonderful. Vicky asks Julia what is wrong, and Julia answers that she didn't sleep well. "When will the wedding be?" Julia asks. Carolyn answers that they are trying to decide that now. "Everything is happening so fast," Vicky says. Liz answers "Yes, it seems so. I suppose all of us rush along with things when we are happy." Carolyn says "I suppose we'll be inviting everyone in the family." Vicky says "David....David is still at school." Liz suddenly looks concerned, looks at Vicky, and says "David. Yes... when Alan and I saw him on our trip, he seemed overwhelmed by Vicky coming back and the fact that he had a new cousin in her. It might be good to give him time to adjust before bringing him back here for his aunt's wedding." Julia answers "David should be able to handle all of this, he's maturing into a very strong young man." Carolyn says "Maybe.." and Vicky adds "I keep visualizing him as the little boy I remember. I'll have to adjust too, I suppose." Carolyn says "Perhaps we could wait until David returns from school in a few weeks. We could have his homecoming and your wedding together." Liz thinks this is a wonderful idea. Julia motions for Vicky to follow her into the foyer. Vicky excuses herself and follows Julia outside, closing the doors. Vicky asks Julia what is wrong, and Julia tells Vicky about her dream. "What do you think it means?" Vicky asks. Julia answers "I don't know. I only know that Barnabas is in danger. But...." Julia knocks at the door of the old house and waits a moment, but there is no answer. She opens the door and walks in, finding no one. She calls for Barnabas, and walks around the empty living room calling for him more. She even calls for Angelique, but there is no answer. She sighs, and walks to the desk to get some paper to leave him a note. As she is writing, she suddenly hears Nicholas behind her say "It looks like you've found an empty house, Doctor." Startled, Julia turns and faces Blair. "Blair! How long have you been standing there?" she says. "Long enough," he answers. "You seem rather addled, Doctor. Is there anything I can do?" Julia glares at him and replies "Go back to wherever you came from." Nicholas laughs, and adds "that's easier said than done." Julia snaps "What are you doing here? And what did you do to Willie Loomis?" Nicholas says "I didn't do anything to Willie. What happened to him, he brought about himself." Julia answers "Well, I'll get to the bottom of what happened to Willie now that he is under my care." Nicholas raises an eyebrow and says "Oh? You mean he's locked up at Windcliff? That, doctor, is good to know." Julia scoffs and adds "And I'll find out what you are plotting against Barnabas as well." Nicholas looks at her and smiles, saying "You speak more truth than you could ever know." Julia angrily says "Where is he? What have you done with him?" Nicholas says "I haven't done anything. His loving wife.... you remember her, don't you? The woman Barnabas truly loves?" Julia turns away from Nicholas on that line as he continues "They went into town for the evening. They really should learn to lock that front door, with all the intruders coming in...." Julia walks away, saying "I've had enough of you..." but Blair walks in front of her, stopping her, saying roughly "Do not open that door, Julia." Julia demands that Nicholas step out of her way. Nicholas repeats "Do not open that door. If you do, you do so of your own free will, and I am not responsible." Julia wonders what he is up to, but scoffs and pushes him out of the way. She opens the door and gasps - in front of her, suspended in the air, are the two red bloodshot eyes she saw from her dream. They glare at her as she trembles and Nicholas smiles.
The two eyes stare at Julia, and she goes from trembling to becoming transfixed by them. Nicholas says "Yes, Julia....look into those eyes....they will guide you.....you are under their control..." Julia stares into the eyes floating before her as Nicholas continues "Follow them.... you must follow them...." The eyes start to move off into the distance, and Julia, like a sleepwalker, follows them out of the house and into the woods. Nicholas follows her and closes the door as we pan over to the unfinished note she was writing to Barnabas. We dissolve to the woods as we see Julia walking through the woods, following the eyes slowly but surely. Behind her is Nicholas, helping to guide her. Next, Julia enters Nicholas' house by the sea and walks into the living room as Nicholas follows. The eyes move in front of the box with Judah's head and float in front of the blue cloth covering it. Nicholas walks in front of Julia and says "You are here....you are here of your own free will...." Julia repeats "I am here of my own free will." Nicholas says "You will accept what is about to happen." Julia repeats "I will accept what is about to happen." Nicholas smiles and says "Good. Vicky asks Julia what is wrong, and Julia tells Vicky about her dream. "What do you think it means?" Vicky asks. Julia answers "I don't know. I only know that Barnabas is in danger. But...." Vicky asks "But what?" Julia answers "But why do I think he's in danger from me?" Vicky has no answer.
Julia knocks at the door of the old house and waits a moment, but there is no answer. She opens the door and walks in, finding no one. She calls for Barnabas, and walks around the empty living room calling for him more. She even calls for Angelique, but there is no answer. She sighs, and walks to the desk to get some paper to leave him a note. As she is writing, she suddenly hears Nicholas behind her say "It looks like you've found an empty house, Doctor." Startled, Julia turns and faces Blair. "Blair! How long have you been standing there?" she says. "Long enough," he answers. "You seem rather addled, Doctor. Is there anything I can do?" Julia glares at him and replies "Go back to wherever you came from." Nicholas laughs, and adds "that's easier said than done." Julia snaps "What are you doing here? And what did you do to Willie Loomis?" Nicholas says "I didn't do anything to Willie. What happened to him, he brought about himself." Julia answers "Well, I'll get to the bottom of what happened to Willie now that he is under my care." Nicholas raises an eyebrow and says "Oh? You mean he's locked up at Windcliff? That, doctor, is good to know." Julia scoffs and adds "And I'll find out what you are plotting against Barnabas as well." Nicholas looks at her and smiles, saying "You speak more truth than you could ever know." Julia angrily says "Where is he? What have you done with him?" Nicholas says "I haven't done anything. His loving wife.... you remember her, don't you? The woman Barnabas truly loves?" Julia turns away from Nicholas on that line as he continues "They went into town for the evening. They really should learn to lock that front door, with all the intruders coming in...." Julia walks away, saying "I've had enough of you..." but Blair walks in front of her, stopping her, saying roughly "Do not open that door, Julia." Julia demands that Nicholas step out of her way. Nicholas repeats "Do not open that door. If you do, you do so of your own free will, and I am not responsible." Julia wonders what he is up to, but scoffs and pushes him out of the way. She opens the door and gasps - in front of her, suspended in the air, are the two red bloodshot eyes she saw from her dream. They glare at her as she trembles and Nicholas smiles.
The two eyes stare at Julia, and she goes from trembling to becoming transfixed by them. Nicholas says "Yes, Julia....look into those eyes....they will guide you.....you are under their control..." Julia stares into the eyes floating before her as Nicholas continues "Follow them.... you must follow them...." The eyes start to move off into the distance, and Julia, like a sleepwalker, follows them out of the house and into the woods. Nicholas follows her and closes the door as we pan over to the unfinished note she was writing to Barnabas. We dissolve to the woods as we see Julia walking through the woods, following the eyes slowly but surely. Behind her is Nicholas, helping to guide her. Next, Julia enters Nicholas' house by the sea and walks into the living room as Nicholas follows. The eyes move in front of the box with Judah's head and float in front of the blue cloth covering it. Nicholas walks in front of Julia and says "You are here....you are here of your own free will...." Julia repeats "I am here of my own free will." Nicholas says "You will accept what is about to happen." Julia repeats "I will accept what is about to happen." Nicholas smiles and says "Good. I had originally intended this for Barnabas Collins, but a new inspiration came to me after talking with you and Harrison. This is for you, Doctor Julia Hoffman!" and with a "Behold!" Nicholas yanks the cover off the glass box with Judah's head. Julia gasps "Judah! Judah Zachary!" in shock, but Nicholas repeats "You will accept what is about to happen!" Julia struggles to say "No...no...it can't be! We destroyed you in the past!" Nicholas yells "You will accept what is about to happen!" Julia tries to fight, but can't help saying "I.....will....accept....what....is....about to....happen!" as Judah's eyes open and stare directly at her. They are the same red bloodshot eyes we have seen before! Nicholas says "Now! Now! The time is now!" Judah's head starts to smile as Julia gasps for air. Julia yells in pain and collapses to the floor. Nicholas stands over her unconscious body and laughs. As he continues laughing, Julia opens her eyes....and they are now the same red bloodshot eyes we have seen before....

After a replay of Wednesday's close, Stokes tells Barnabas that he's being "far too unrealistic" in thinking they could duplicate Petofi's spell and somehow bring Sarah back to life. Barnabas says he's hopeful, and that they "should at least try." Stokes reminds Barnabas that "Daphne's spirit was unstable" and that "her fading into the past could be an inevitable consequence of such a spell." Barnabas counters that the original Daphne "must have aged, yet the Daphne we knew was young and beautiful. Perhaps Petofi borrowed a spirit that rightly belonged in the past. Sarah is a different case. She died young. It would be more like a continuation of her life." Stokes says "Anything may be possible when dealing with powers like these, but there is always the possibility that her spirit, too, may belong to the past." Barnabas, saddened by this, answers "Unfortunately Professor, my spirit seems as much a prisoner of the past too." Stokes says that he will "research more" into Petofi's methods, but warns "while I may understand such powers, I assure you I am no sorcerer." Barnabas nods. Meanwhile, Quentin is searching the woods for Willie, gun drawn. He hears some brush moving and some breathing. As Quentin steps from behind a tree, he sees an exhausted Willie laying on the ground, breathing heavily. "Loomis!" he says. "Can you stand up?" Willie opens his eyes and looks at Quentin, and pants "Kill me..... kill me, please. You've got to....got to shut it off....make him stop....." before collapsing. Quentin shouts "Willie!"
Quentin tries to get Willie to his feet, and Willie is still exhausted. "What happened to you Loomis?" Quentin asks. "Did Blair have anything to do with it? Willie gets scared at the mention of Blair, and Quentin nods "That's enough to make me think he did. What did Blair do to you? Tell me!" Willie shakes his head and pulls away, but can't get far before leaning against a tree. "I can't make it stop....it keeps talking to me....." he says. "What keeps talking to you?" Quentin says. "It' him.... that thing Blair brought back.....it's always starin' at me...tellin' me what to do! Make it stop! Make it stop!" Willie starts to get more energy and lunges at Quentin, who clocks him one and sends him to the ground, knocking him out. Quentin looks at the gun at his hand and hmphs before picking Willie up and taking him away. Back at Collinwood, Julia is having some tea in the drawing room when Quentin comes in, carrying Willie. Julia asks Quentin where he found him, and Quentin says "babbling in the woods. He's completely out of his mind." Quentin lays him on the sofa and Julia says she'd better get her bag to sedate him in case he gets violent again. Quentin tells Julia "Nicholas Blair did something to him. I don't know why, but I intend to find out." Willie stirs at the mention of Blair's name, and then sees where he is. "You gotta get me out of here!" he says. Julia tells him to calm down, and Willie looks at her and begins to tear up. "Julia....I tried to hurt you....I don't know why, I'm sorry, I'm sorry....I can't help it...he keeps tellin' me to do things and I don't wanna!" Julia asks "Who does? Nicholas Blair?" Willie answers "Those eyes....starin' at me.....he wants to get Barnabas! Destroy him! He won't stop tellin' me! I can't shut it off, I tell ya, I can't shut it off!" Willie starts to convulse, and Quentin holds him down as Julia sticks a needle in him, knocking him out. Julia says she'd better arrange to have Willie sent to Windcliff "for an extended observation." Quentin replies "We'd better put Blair under observation as well. If we can believe any of those rants, Blair is out to get Barnabas and destroy him somehow." Julia and Quentin look at each other.
In the foyer, two attendants in white suits have Willie in a straight jacket. He has been sedated, but he still babbles about voices in his head, and when he turns to see Barnabas' portrait, he starts to get more excited, saying "you were the one....you! He will have his revenge, don't you see? Don't you see?" Julia signs some papers and tells the attendants to put Willie in the high security area once they get him to Windcliff. She tells Willie she'll be there "soon" to check on his progress. He mixes laughing and crying as they take him away. Quentin, standing on the stairs, comments "Poor devil. Blair must have seen him as an avenue to hurt Barnabas somehow." Julia answers "I'm not sure about that. I think Nicholas may have been planning something else, and somehow Willie interrupted things. I think Nicholas is too smart to trust using someone as unstable as Willie Loomis in his plans." Quentin ponders that one as we dissolve to the old house. Stokes is leaving as Barnabas paces and thinks. "Sarah...." we hear him think. "If only you would appear to me. I could tell you how I've struggled to keep the promise I made to you so long ago.... and perhaps I can restore what was once taken from you so cruelly...." He holds in his hand the picture Sarah drew for Stokes and looks at it sadly when there is a knock at the door. He thinks a moment, and goes to the door quickly, saying "Sarah, is that you? Did you hear me?" But when he opens the door, it's Julia. Julia asks "Did I hear you call for Sarah just now?" Barnabas escorts her in and answers "Yes. Stokes was just here. She appeared to him tonight." Julia wonders why Sarah would appear to Stokes, and Barnabas tells her that Stokes encouraged Sarah not to be afraid "of her brother Barnabas." Julia asks if he thinks it will work, and Barnabas answers "Perhaps. But there may be another way." Julia asks what, and Barnabas explains his ideas on using Petofi's method of bringing back long dead spirits. Julia is both surprised and skeptical, pointing out that "none of us have Petofi's power, Barnabas. And even with Petofi, Daphne faded back into her own time. Wouldn't that happen with Sarah?" Barnabas answers "I don't think so, at least I refuse to believe that! She would cling to her new life, to her second chance." Julia says "Well, that's not why I came here. I came to tell you that I've had to commit Willie Loomis." Barnabas replies "So, Harrison and Quentin found him, I take it." Julia says yes, and that "Quentin managed to get some information out of Willie before I had to sedate him." Barnabas asks what, and Julia answers "Whatever happened to Willie, Nicholas Blair seems to be at the bottom of it." Barnabas frowns knowingly.

Barnabas tells her not to worry since he's "faced Blair before. But tell me, I understand Harrison saved you from Willie. Is that true?" Julia says yes, and comments that Harrison seemed "very gallant" in defending her, and "certainly doesn't like Nicholas at all. Perhaps your suspicions about him are unfounded, Barnabas." Barnabas says "Perhaps. But the man is still hiding secrets and a secret agenda. And something tells me it has to do with me." Julia thinks about this a moment, and then we dissolve to Julia returning to her room at Collinwood. She looks in the mirror a moment and thinks "Once again, Barnabas needs me....will he ever realize how much I need...." but before she can finish the thought, a thunderclap blows the window open. She shuts it and starts to get ready for bed. We dissolve to her sleeping, and she begins to toss and turn. As we zoom in on her face, the picture swirls and we are in Julia's dream. Barnabas enters a foggy Collinwood, and he's scared. He closes the door behind him and looks around frantically. He calls for Quentin, but no one comes. There is a pounding at the front door, and a terrified Barnabas flees to the drawing room, closing the doors behind him. Julia is inside the room, and Barnabas is relieved to see her. He says "Julia! Thank God! He's after me! You must help me!" Julia stares at him coldly and says nothing. He says "Julia, what's wrong?" Julia slowly raises a gun in her hand and begins to tremble a bit. Trembling, we hear her think "Barnabas.....I can't help myself....I can't stop myself....." Barnabas backs away and yells "Julia, no! You can't do this!" We hear Julia crying and saying "No...I can't do this! What is making me do this?" as we see her face frozen in a scowl. "Why can't I speak? Oh no...dear God....I feel my finger squeezing the trigger and I can't stop it....why can't I stop it?" Thayer David's voiceover: "Collinwood has been the repository of many mysteries in its long and tortured history. The current occupants of the great house have no sense of the great and mortal danger they face from events yet to come. Unbeknownst to them, a long time enemy of the Collins family has been brought to this place from beyond the boundaries of time. A mysterious newly arrived relative of the family and a long lost innocent spirit will be used by the forces of darkness to unleash that enemy's wrath, and unless these forces can be turned back, the Collins family may well face certain doom...."
Harrison comes downstairs and walks to the telephone. Quentin comes out of the drawing room as Harrison picks up the receiver. "Is Blair gone?" Harrison asks him. "Blair was here?" Quentin replies. "I didn't see him." Harrison answers "Good. That's one less problem for me to worry about tonight." As Harrison starts dialing, Quentin asks him what his other problems are. Harrison answers "Willie Loomis has gone mad. He attacked Julia Hoffman in this house a while ago and ran off into the woods. She's all right, but I think we should call the police." Quentin thinks about this a moment.
After the titles, Quentin takes the phone from Harrison's hand and tells him to "wait a moment." Harrison asks why, and Quentin answers "Loomis has always been somewhat of a dim bulb, but I can't understand any reason why he would suddenly go out of his mind. What did Blair want here tonight?" Harrison answers "Do you think Blair has something to do with Willie's behavior?" Quentin answers "I wouldn't be surprised. Somehow I always suspect him first whenever anything strange happens around here." Harrison answers "Perhaps I should call the police on Nicholas, then." Quentin laughs a little, and answers "The police don't quite have the right skills to deal with someone like Blair. The man is something of an expert in the black arts." Harrison asks "So whatever he may have done to Willie, assuming he did anything, would be part of any larger plans he may have?" Quentin smiles and says "You're a quick study, Harrison." Harrison smiles back and says "Then perhaps we should search the woods for Loomis before Blair finds him first. If we can calm him down, we might get some answers out of him." Quentin opens a drawer near the phone and takes out a gun. "I'm with you, but I don't want to take any foolish chances," Quentin says. "With Loomis or with Blair?" Harrison asks. Quentin thinks a moment and says "I guess we'll find out." The two of them leave. Meanwhile, Stokes is getting home and opening his door. He enters his house and puts some books down on a desk before turning on the light. He looks on the desk and sees a child's drawing. Surprised, he picks it up and studies it, and then turns to see Sarah standing at the other end of the room. "Sarah!" he says. "Sarah Collins!" She stands silently before him.
"Hello," Sarah says to Stokes. He asks her if she drew the picture, and she smiles and nods. "I was waiting for you and I wanted to draw something." He tells her it's very nice and thanks her. "Why have you come to see me, Sarah? We've never talked to each other before," he says. "I've seen you," she answers. "Oh?" he asks. "Where have you seen me?" Sarah answers "That's not important." Stokes says "Do you mind if I sit down? I've been on my feet all day, and I'm very tired. You can sit down too, if you like. I would like very much to talk to you." Sarah asks "Why? You've never talked to me before." Stokes sits, and Sarah sits in a chair opposite him. "I've heard a lot about you, Sarah. Other people who have seen you and spoken to you have told me about it." Sarah nods and says "Yes, I know. Why do they all tell you?" Stokes answers "Perhaps because they think I can help them somehow." Sarah asks "Why do they need help?" Stokes answers "Well, it depends who they are. Your brother Barnabas, for example...." Sarah gets a little scared, but Stokes calms her, adding "Don't be frightened, Sarah. You must have already known that I know he is your brother. He is also my friend." Sarah answers "I know. Is Maggie your friend too? She's my friend." Stokes says "Maggie....Maggie Evans..." to himself before turning back to Sarah. "Sarah, I have something very important to tell you about your brother Barnabas." Sarah gets interested and asks what it is. "You might remember that he was....different than he was before...." Stokes begins, but Sarah seems to get angry. "He was dead!" she yells. "He was dead and he hurt people! He tried to hurt my friend Maggie! He promised me he wouldn't!" Stokes answers "It's all right to be angry, Sarah. But please, listen to what I have to tell you. Will you promise me you'll stay here, in that chair, long enough to listen? Long enough to maybe be my friend?" Sarah looks at Stokes, thinking.
At the old house, Barnabas is reading when he hears a knock on the door. When he answers it, it's Quentin and Harrison, who quickly fill him in on Willie going nuts and attacking Julia. "And you suspect Blair?" Barnabas asks angrily. Quentin says yes, and asks Barnabas if he wants to help search for Willie. Barnabas answers that he hasn't heard any strange noises outside, so he doesn't think Willie may have tried to hide in the old house. Barnabas looks at Harrison and says "You chased him off when he attacked Julia, did you?" Harrison says "Yes, I managed to knock the fencing foil from his hand and he ran off through the window." Barnabas reluctantly thanks Harrison, adding "I owe so much to Julia... I don't know what I would do without her." Barnabas agrees to help them search for Willie, but as he's getting his cape, Stokes arrives. He asks what is going on, and when told of the events surrounding Willie and the possible involvement of Blair, Stokes comments "If Loomis is under Blair's power somehow, finding him would be of great importance, I'm sure. But we have a very important matter to discuss, Barnabas." Curious, Barnabas replies "We do?" Stokes nods, and Barnabas tells Quentin and Harrison he'll catch up to them later. Harrison tells Quentin that they should search different parts of the woods to find Willie more quickly. Quentin points out that he's got the only gun, but Harrison answers "I handled him before, I'm sure I can do it again." Quentin tells Barnabas that they will move towards the cemetery, and he should meet them there. Barnabas agrees, Quentin and Harrison leave, and Stokes is escorted into the living room. "What is your urgent business, Professor?" Barnabas asks. Stokes answers "I saw your sister Sarah tonight, Barnabas." Barnabas gasps "Sarah!" Stokes continues "Yes. And we had quite an interesting conversation. One that you need to hear about." Barnabas wonders.
"What did she say? Tell me, I must know!" Barnabas pleads. Stokes recaps how Sarah appeared to him, and how "in her own childlike way" understood what had happened to Barnabas in the past. "It's always fascinating how the mind of a child views the horrific things in this world," he says. "But if she understands, why won't she appear to me?" Barnabas whines. Stokes answers "She was afraid. She was afraid you hadn't kept your promise to her, but she wouldn't tell me what that promise was." Barnabas looks remorseful and says "I had promised her I would change. I promised her I would overcome the evil that had consumed me after I was cursed." Stokes nods, and says "I had assumed your promise was something like that. I told her you were human again, and that you had risked that humanity in order to save others." Hopeful, Barnabas asks "What did she say?" Stokes answers "She said nothing. She looked deep in thought. I turned away for a moment, and when I looked back, the child was gone." Barnabas gets sad again, and wonders if he'll ever see his "little Sarah" again. Stokes tells him "I believe she does want to see you, Barnabas. But there was one thing she said that I couldn't understand." Barnabas asks "What was that?" Stokes says "She insisted that you once tried to hurt her friend Maggie.... I assume she meant Maggie Evans. I tried to tell her how you fought to save Maggie from Roxanne Drew, but Sarah insisted she was afraid for Maggie." Barnabas turns away and says nothing, and Stoke continues "Barnabas, if I am to help you in any way, you must be completely honest with me. Did you ever try to hurt Maggie Evans?" Barnabas sighs and answers "It was so long ago when I was under the influence of that awful curse... I cannot escape the guilt from it." Stokes answers "Very aptly phrased, especially if Maggie Evans cannot escape the memory of it. I would think serious consequences would ensue." Barnabas answers "I know. Julia Hoffman is working with her. The memory of what happened only added to her trauma. I don't know what to do." Stokes adds "Perhaps that's what Sarah is waiting for. For you to do something to help Maggie Evans." Barnabas thinks about this, and then suddenly says "Professor, you were helping Quentin solve a mystery recently that intrigues me greatly." Stokes asks what, and Barnabas answers "The origin of Daphne Hopkins." Stokes answers "Yes, I had concluded that Professor Anderson or Petofi or whatever you want to call him had the power to reanimate a long dead spirit." Barnabas says "Did you study enough of Petofi's powers to understand them fully?" Stokes asks "Barnabas, what are you getting at?" Barnabas says "I wonder.....I wonder if we could duplicate what Petofi did. To reanimate a long dead spirit into a new live body." Stokes answers "I don't know what kind of powers Petofi had to attempt that, and you cannot be serious in asking me to..." Barnabas snaps "I'm quite serious. I must unlock that secret, Professor. Because then I can have my little Sarah back." Stokes doesn't look too hopeful.

Harrison comes downstairs and walks to the telephone. Quentin comes out of the drawing room as Harrison picks up the receiver. "Is Blair gone?" Harrison asks him. "Blair was here?" Quentin replies. "I didn't see him." Harrison answers "Good. That's one less problem for me to worry about tonight." As Harrison starts dialing, Quentin asks him what his other problems are. Harrison answers "Willie Loomis has gone mad. He attacked Julia Hoffman in this house a while ago and ran off into the woods. She's all right, but I think we should call the police." Quentin thinks about this a moment.
After the titles, Quentin takes the phone from Harrison's hand and tells him to "wait a moment." Harrison asks why, and Quentin answers "Loomis has always been somewhat of a dim bulb, but I can't understand any reason why he would suddenly go out of his mind. What did Blair want here tonight?" Harrison answers "Do you think Blair has something to do with Willie's behavior?" Quentin answers "I wouldn't be surprised. Somehow I always suspect him first whenever anything strange happens around here." Harrison answers "Perhaps I should call the police on Nicholas, then." Quentin laughs a little, and answers "The police don't quite have the right skills to deal with someone like Blair. The man is something of an expert in the black arts." Harrison asks "So whatever he may have done to Willie, assuming he did anything, would be part of any larger plans he may have?" Quentin smiles and says "You're a quick study, Harrison." Harrison smiles back and says "Then perhaps we should search the woods for Loomis before Blair finds him first. If we can calm him down, we might get some answers out of him." Quentin opens a drawer near the phone and takes out a gun. "I'm with you, but I don't want to take any foolish chances," Quentin says. "With Loomis or with Blair?" Harrison asks. Quentin thinks a moment and says "I guess we'll find out." The two of them leave. Meanwhile, Stokes is getting home and opening his door. He enters his house and puts some books down on a desk before turning on the light. He looks on the desk and sees a child's drawing. Surprised, he picks it up and studies it, and then turns to see Sarah standing at the other end of the room. "Sarah!" he says. "Sarah Collins!" She stands silently before him.
"Hello," Sarah says to Stokes. He asks her if she drew the picture, and she smiles and nods. "I was waiting for you and I wanted to draw something." He tells her it's very nice and thanks her. "Why have you come to see me, Sarah? We've never talked to each other before," he says. "I've seen you," she answers. "Oh?" he asks. "Where have you seen me?" Sarah answers "That's not important." Stokes says "Do you mind if I sit down? I've been on my feet all day, and I'm very tired. You can sit down too, if you like. I would like very much to talk to you." Sarah asks "Why? You've never talked to me before." Stokes sits, and Sarah sits in a chair opposite him. "I've heard a lot about you, Sarah. Other people who have seen you and spoken to you have told me about it." Sarah nods and says "Yes, I know. Why do they all tell you?" Stokes answers "Perhaps because they think I can help them somehow." Sarah asks "Why do they need help?" Stokes answers "Well, it depends who they are. Your brother Barnabas, for example...." Sarah gets a little scared, but Stokes calms her, adding "Don't be frightened, Sarah. You must have already known that I know he is your brother. He is also my friend." Sarah answers "I know. Is Maggie your friend too? She's my friend." Stokes says "Maggie....Maggie Evans..." to himself before turning back to Sarah. "Sarah, I have something very important to tell you about your brother Barnabas." Sarah gets interested and asks what it is. "You might remember that he was....different than he was before...." Stokes begins, but Sarah seems to get angry. "He was dead!" she yells. "He was dead and he hurt people! He tried to hurt my friend Maggie! He promised me he wouldn't!" Stokes answers "It's all right to be angry, Sarah. But please, listen to what I have to tell you. Will you promise me you'll stay here, in that chair, long enough to listen? Long enough to maybe be my friend?" Sarah looks at Stokes, thinking.
At the old house, Barnabas is reading when he hears a knock on the door. When he answers it, it's Quentin and Harrison, who quickly fill him in on Willie going nuts and attacking Julia. "And you suspect Blair?" Barnabas asks angrily. Quentin says yes, and asks Barnabas if he wants to help search for Willie. Barnabas answers that he hasn't heard any strange noises outside, so he doesn't think Willie may have tried to hide in the old house. Barnabas looks at Harrison and says "You chased him off when he attacked Julia, did you?" Harrison says "Yes, I managed to knock the fencing foil from his hand and he ran off through the window." After a replay of Monday's close, Nicholas walks through the woods with his gun drawn, looking for Willie. He hears some footsteps approaching and ducks behind a tree. When he sees it's Harrison, he hides the gun in his pocket and steps out into the path. "Good evening," Nicholas says, catching Harrison by surprise. Harrison asks Nicholas what he's doing "wandering the woods" and Nicholas replies "One could ask you the same thing." Harrison answers "I was looking for someone." Nicholas raises an eyebrow and says "Oh? Just who were you looking for?" Harrison answers "You don't know her." Nicholas, relieved that Harrison isn't looking for Willie, answers "Her? Who might this young lady be?" Harrison walks away answering "It has nothing to do with you." Nicholas moves in front of Harrison and says "Perhaps we have some other business to discuss." Harrison frowns and says "What kind of business could we possibly have?" Nicholas smiles and says "I think we can help each other, Harrison. I'm very good at helping people." Harrison, wondering what this means, asks "What makes you think I need help?" Nicholas answers "I can help you with a great many things. With Angelique, perhaps. With something mundane like money." Harrison sneers and starts to walk away "You cannot buy me, Blair." Nicholas snaps "I would offer you power, but it seems you already have a great deal of that. A certain type of power I happen to be very interested in. I'm sure that rings true, doesn't it Harrison?" Harrison stops and faces Nicholas as Nicholas continues "Yes, Harrison. Your ring. I must know its secrets." Harrison covers his ring with his other hand.
"This ring is nothing more than a family heirloom," Harrison answers. Nicholas laughs and says "Nothing more? I'm sure Vicky Winters would think its very much more, if she knew the truth." Harrison turns away as Nicholas continues "Yes, but there's no need for her to know, is there? After all, you did her quite a service. You reached through time and snatched her from certain death, even if it was for your own purposes." Harrison angrily snaps "What do you want, Blair? Why don't you just spit it out already." Nicholas answers "I only want for us to be friends, Harrison. Maybe even partners. For our mutual benefit, I assure you." Harrison answers "Somehow, I doubt that. Good night" before he walks away. Back at Collinwood, Julia arrives and hangs her coat up. She walks over to Barnabas' portrait and looks at it a moment, thinking what to do about Maggie. Suddenly, Willie comes bursting through the front door, still crazed and laughing uncontrollably. Julia backs away from him and yells "Willie! What's wrong? What is it?" Willie keeps laughing and only says "It's here....it's here! He's brought it here!" Julia asks "What's here? What are you talking about?" Willie says "You don't know? How can you not know? You're always so smart.....you know all sorts of things.... why don't you know? Well, everyone's gonna know soon!" Willie starts laughing again and approaches Julia menacingly. She backs away and then runs into the drawing room, closing the doors. She tries to get to the phone, but Willie smacks the doors open and continues to yell about how "everyone will know" soon. He takes one of the fencing foils from the wall and starts to approach Julia with it. She yells "Willie! Stop!" but he keeps giggling and coming closer.
Willie gets closer and closer when Harrison comes through the front door. He hears Julia yelling and runs into the drawing room. He yells "Loomis! What do you think you're doing?" just as Willie turns and lunges at him with the foil. Harrison steps out of the way as Julia yells for him to be careful. Willie lunges again, but Harrison smashes him hard on the back sending him to the floor. Harrison steps on the foil, and Willie lets it go after struggling. Willie gets up, still giggling and ranting, as Harrison picks up the foil and waves Julia behind him. Julia says she'll call the police, and Willie says "Police won't do no good! He's already dead! D'ya hear me? He's already dead!!!" Julia and Harrison wonder what this means as Willie opens the windows and jumps out into the night. Harrison asks Julia if she is all right, and she says she is, though she's shocked at Willie's behavior. Harrison says he's not surprised, considering what he's seen of Willie. Julia shakes her head and says "Willie has changed a great deal. Something was clearly wrong with him. He wasn't responding to anything we said. It was like his mind was in another world..." Harrison snaps "Assuming he has a mind at all" as he puts the foil back on the wall. Harrison offers Julia a brandy to calm her down, but Julia says she'd rather go upstairs and lie down. Harrison leads her out into the foyer as they hear a pounding on the door. Julia gets scared, but Harrison says "I'll see to it. If it's Loomis, don't worry, I can protect you." Harrison opens the door, and it's Nicholas, who invites himself in. "I think I would have preferred Loomis," Harrison says. Nicholas asks "What?" nervously, and Harrison answers "Willie seems to have lost his mind. I just chased him off from attacking Doctor Hoffman." Nicholas feigns surprise and says "Really? What happened to him?" Julia says "We don't know. He ran off into the woods." Nicholas says "Perhaps I should go after him. I'd hate to see him in trouble with the police again." Harrison sneers "Aren't you suddenly the concerned citizen?" Nicholas answers "You don't like me very much, do you Mr. Collins?" Harrison answers "You have a gift for understatement. Excuse me, I'll help Dr. Hoffman upstairs." Julia stops Harrison and asks Nicholas what he wants. Nicholas says he's only here to see Roger, "the one person in the family who still considers me a friend." Julia says she hasn't seen him, and starts to go upstairs with Harrison. Harrison asks her how Maggie is, and Julia tries to shush him, to his confusion. Overhearing, Nicholas says "Maggie? Maggie Evans?" Julia tries to start up the stairs and ignore Nicholas, but Nicholas stops her. "Are you taking care of Maggie Evans?" he says. Julia glares at him and says "Stay away from her, Blair. The last thing she needs in her life right now is you." Harrison says to Julia "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to...." Julia answers "It's all right, you had no idea. But be careful what you say in front of Nicholas Blair, Harrison. Be very careful." Julia goes upstairs, leaving Harrison and Nicholas behind.
Nicholas looks at Barnabas' portrait and then turns to Harrison. "So... Julia is caring for Maggie Evans up at Windcliff.... that is interesting to know." Harrison replies "So, did this Maggie Evans become partners with you in the past?" Nicholas laughs a little and answers "No, not in the sense you are thinking. But I can tell you this: I can most assuredly do more for that girl than Doctor Hoffman can." Harrison answers "Just like you can do more for me, right?" Nicholas nods and says "I know for a fact that you don't like Barnabas Collins. Honestly Harrison, neither do I. That's where we have something in common." Harrison is now interested, and asks "What have you got against Barnabas?" Nicholas answers "That's not important for you to know. Suffice to say that I can help you, shall we say, move him to the side as you pursue Angelique." Harrison answers "Why should you care about this? Do you want me to find happiness with Angelique, or are you more interested in seeing Barnabas miserable? Oh, and let's not forget that Angelique may have something to say about this. They are married, I would assume she's in love with Barnabas." Nicholas answers "I can take care of that....but only for a price." Harrison clutches his ring, and then turns to Nicholas. "Perhaps it's Angelique's happiness that concerns me most," he says. "And if she's truly happy with Barnabas, then perhaps none of us have any business trying to destroy him. I don't want to know what you have in mind. Excuse me, I shall see to Doctor Hoffman and then I'd better call the police about Loomis." Nicholas grabs Harrison's arm and answers "If you really care about Angelique's happiness, you will want to deal with me, and deal with me very carefully." Harrison smiles and throws Nicholas' grip off. "Somehow I think you'll want to deal with me very carefully, considering I have something you want very badly. I'm surprised at you anyway. If you're so determined to settle a score with Barnabas Collins, perhaps you should bargain with someone he trusts instead of someone he dislikes as much as me. Goodnight, Blair. Please let yourself out." Harrison goes upstairs as Nicholas paces a moment. He looks at Barnabas' portrait and thinks to himself "You shall be destroyed, Barnabas.... I now have the means of your destruction at hand...." Nicholas looks upstairs and thinks a moment more. "Maggie Evans at Windcliff....under the care of Julia Hoffman....." Nicholas looks at Barnabas' portrait again and smiles "Who do you trust more than Dr. Julia Hoffman?" he says to the picture before snickering darkly.

Excuse me, I'll help Dr. Hoffman upstairs." Julia stops Harrison and asks Nicholas what he wants. Nicholas says he's only here to see Roger, "the one person in the family who still considers me a friend." Julia says she hasn't seen him, and starts to go upstairs with Harrison. Harrison asks her how Maggie is, and Julia tries to shush him, to his confusion. Overhearing, Nicholas says "Maggie? Maggie Evans?" Julia tries to start up the stairs and ignore Nicholas, but Nicholas stops her. "Are you taking care of Maggie Evans?" he says. Julia glares at him and says "Stay away from her, Blair. The last thing she needs in her life right now is you." Harrison says to Julia "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to...." Julia answers "It's all right, you had no idea. But be careful what you say in front of Nicholas Blair, Harrison. Be very careful." Julia goes upstairs, leaving Harrison and Nicholas behind.
Nicholas looks at Barnabas' portrait and then turns to Harrison. "So... Julia is caring for Maggie Evans up at Windcliff.... that is interesting to know." Harrison replies "So, did this Maggie Evans become partners with you in the past?" Nicholas laughs a little and answers "No, not in the sense you are thinking. But I can tell you this: I can most assuredly do more for that girl than Doctor Hoffman can." Harrison answers "Just like you can do more for me, right?" Nicholas nods and says "I know for a fact that you don't like Barnabas Collins. Honestly Harrison, neither do I. That's where we have something in common." Harrison is now interested, and asks "What have you got against Barnabas?" Nicholas answers "That's not important for you to know. Suffice to say that I can help you, shall we say, move him to the side as you pursue Angelique." Harrison answers "Why should you care about this? Do you want me to find happiness with Angelique, or are you more interested in seeing Barnabas miserable? Oh, and let's not forget that Angelique may have something to say about this. They are married, I would assume she's in love with Barnabas." Nicholas answers "I can take care of that....but only for a price." Harrison clutches his ring, and then turns to Nicholas. "Perhaps it's Angelique's happiness that concerns me most," he says. "And if she's truly happy with Barnabas, then perhaps none of us have any business trying to destroy him. I don't want to know what you have in mind. Excuse me, I shall see to Doctor Hoffman and then I'd better call the police about Loomis." Nicholas grabs Harrison's arm and answers "If you really care about Angelique's happiness, you will want to deal with me, and deal with me very carefully." Harrison smiles and throws Nicholas' grip off. "Somehow I think you'll want to deal with me very carefully, considering I have something you want very badly. I'm surprised at you anyway. If you're so determined to settle a score with Barnabas Collins, perhaps you should bargain with someone he trusts instead of someone he dislikes as much as me. Goodnight, Blair. Please let yourself out." Harrison goes upstairs as Nicholas paces a moment. He looks at Barnabas' portrait and thinks to himself "You shall be destroyed, Barnabas.... I now have the means of your destruction at hand...." Nicholas looks upstairs and thinks a moment more. "Maggie Evans at Windcliff....under the care of Julia Hoffman....." Nicholas looks at Barnabas' portrait again and smiles "Who do you trust more than Dr. Julia Hoffman?" he says to the picture before snickering darkly.
