After a repeat of Wednesday's close and the titles, Barnabas, Julia, Angelique & Stokes (still in 1840s garb!) are in the waiting area of the Collinsport hospital. A nurse comes out of a room and Julia asks how Liz is doing. "She's stable and her heart is beating, but she is unconscious," says the nurse. Julia says she would like to talk to the doctor in charge since "I've been Mrs. Stoddard's doctor for some time now, and would like a consultation." The nurse says she'll get the doctor, and that she's sorry if their costume party was ruined. They look at their clothes a moment, and Barnabas says "What could have happened? Elizabeth has never had problems with her heart before!" Stokes says he thinks he may know, since Elizabeth had told him that she had just seen him vanish. "If she saw me vanish at the moment I returned to this time, for some reason Mrs. Stoddard was not connected to the time flow, and actually witnessed its change. Without preparation, that would most certainly cause a severe shock to the system." Julia asks how Liz could be disconnected from the time flow, and Stokes says he doesn't know, though "it is a possibility, since the human mind has capabilities outside of its own comprehension." The doctor comes out of the room and tells them they can see Liz if they want to, and that the rest of the family has been notified.
In the hospital room, Liz is asleep, hooked up to some machines. The doctor tells them that it's "too soon to tell if she will need surgery" and that he's still waiting for test results. He tells them he'll let them be alone with her and leaves. Julia says "Oh, poor Elizabeth!" Angelique looks at her and says "In a way she reminds me of your mother, Barnabas. Naomi was always kind to me. I'd like to get to know her." Barnabas looks at Angelique and says "You will." Stokes adds "Mrs. Stoddard is an extraordinarily strong woman. I have complete confidence in her recovery from this." Barnabas takes Julia aside and tells her that she should make a quick trip back to Collinwood and "fetch more appropriate clothes" for when the rest of the family arrives to avoid questions. Julia leaves as we look at Liz, still asleep.
Roger, Carolyn and David arrive at the hospital, frantic. As Roger asks where his sister is, Barnabas comes to meet him, now dressed in 20th century clothes. "Where is she, Barnabas? What happened?" Barnabas says that he went to Collinwood to meet Stokes and Julia when they found Liz unconscious. Carolyn asks if Liz will be okay, and Barnabas says that the doctors can answer that better. Carolyn starts beating herself up about not being home and being out with Sebastian instead, and David tells her she can't blame herself for something like this. The doctor comes out and meets everyone. He tells Roger that Liz has suffered a mild heart attack brought on by "some kind of shock." Carolyn asks if she will be okay, and the doctor answers "I must be honest with you all. It's still very unclear. Our tests indicate an irregularity. We may need to bring in a specialist from Boston." Roger declares "Bring them in immediately! Bring in every specialist you have! I don't care how much it costs, do you hear me?" Carolyn tells Roger to calm down. Angelique comes out, a little uncomfortable in the 20th century clothes she's not quite used to, and walks to Barnabas. Carolyn recognizes her, as does David, but before they can say anything Barnabas says "Oh, you remember Angelique Rumson, who I had met in England some years ago." After a nervous pause, Carolyn says "Yes, hello. It's nice of you to have come. I know you and my mother had gotten to be friends some time ago." Angelique picks up the ball and runs with it "Yes, I'm sure your mother will be perfectly fine. She's a very strong woman." Roger is studying Angelique while she talks, and Barnabas sees this. He says "Roger, I don't believe you ever met Angelique Rumson, Sky Rumson's widow." Roger snaps out of it a moment and says hello, and adds "Are you sure we've never met? There's something awfully familiar about you." Angelique says she would remember Roger if she had met him, and suddenly Roger says "That voice! I know that voice! I know who you are!" Barnabas isn't thrilled to hear this.
"I know who you are now, " Roger continues, "you had called Liz several times about a year ago, before your husband Sky...well.... I'm sorry to have brought it up. But I can't think straight while I'm so worried about my sister." Angelique answers "That's okay" and she and Barnabas breathe a sigh of relief. The doctor returns and tells Roger that the heart specialist from Boston is on his way, and that "he is one of the top men in the country for this sort of thing." Roger is pleased to hear this, and the doctor continues "It was amazing, once he was told that the patient was Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, he said he'd be up here as soon as possible." Roger responds "Well, it's nice to know the Collins name commands such respect in the medical community." The doctor answers "Well, Dr. Alan Slater commands a lot of respect in the medical community as well. He should be here before the morning." Roger goes from smug to uncomfortable in an instant, and Barnabas asks him what's wrong. All Roger says is "Alan Slater? It can't be...." Barnabas is curious.
