After a replay of Thursday's close and the titles, Valery comes downstairs and finds Trask. She asks him why Alice is so upset. Quentin starts to laugh, and tells Valery she's "too innocent for this world sometimes." Trask tells Valery to ignore Quentin, and that Alice is "upset over our betrothal." Valery says "You can add her to the whole family." Trask asks Quentin if he and Valery can be alone, and Quentin says "Fine. Valery, holler if you need me." Quentin leaves, and Trask closes the door. Valery frets how the whole family is against the wedding, and how her father is worried as well. Trask says that he "talked with your father, and I think we will eventually get along fine. You'd be surprised how people's attitudes can change once a situation is changed." Valery asks him if that means he wants to get married sooner than later, and Trask smiles. Meanwhile, Alice is upstairs in the hallway wiping away her tears. She finds a wall mirror and finishes drying her eyes, and then she smiles strangely, admiring herself. She turns a corner and enters a room. Catherine sits up in bed and sees Alice come in. Squinting her eyes, she says "Alice? What are you doing here?" Alice smiles strangely and says "I only came in to see how you were doing."
Harrison finds Benjamin in the drawing room and asks him if he's seen Quentin. Benjamin says no, but then asks Harrison "I wonder if I could ask you for advice on something. Since you're relatively new here and would offer a fresh perspective." Harrison says fine, and Benjamin asks him what he thinks of Kitty. Harrison says "She's certainly very beautiful. And it's more than obvious how you feel about her." Benjamin says yes, but he can't help feeling there's something different about her. Harrison says "You're asking the wrong person, since I've never met her before." Edward enters the room and gets nervous when he sees Benjamin. Harrison asks Edward if he's feeling any better, and Edward says he is, though "I've had some trouble sleeping." Benjamin asks Edward why, and Edward says he'd rather not discuss it. Harrison says "Perhaps Edward would be better at the question you asked me about Kitty," and Edward gets very nervous, saying "What about Kitty?" Benjamin says "Well, for some reason I have the feeling there's something different about her. I'm not sure what." Edward says that there's "nothing at all different about her" and storms out of the room. Benjamin wonders why Edward is behaving strangely, and Harrison doesn't know what to make of it either. Quentin passes Edward on his way into the drawing room and tells Harrison they "ought to get back to work." Benjamin asks what they are working on, and Quentin thinks a moment before answering "A strange thing we saw in the east wing. We were working with Uncle Roderick about it." Benjamin asks what's strange about the east wing, and Quentin begins to tell him.
Edward returns to his room and closes the door behind him. Suddenly, Kitty is there in the room with him. "Benjamin was asking about me," she says. He seems frightened of her. "I was going to tell him....and I couldn't! I couldn't find the will somehow...." Kitty grabs him by the collar and says "And you won't, Edward. Your will was the first thing I took from you. Oh, you can still operate your business and see to your affairs, but whenever my name is mentioned....well, you will simply abide by my wishes. And after a good sleep, you will remember nothing!" Edward, terrified, says "What are you? How can you have this power?" She pushes him away and says "You needn't know. All you need to know is that I will soon be mistress of this house, and you will be yet another servant to my wishes....that is if I choose to keep you around at all. You did a good job just now downstairs, Edward....and now you will sleep. You will sleep deeply and remember nothing of what has happened....only that you will never reveal anything about me." Edward starts to nod off as Kitty smiles and leaves the room. Meanwhile in the drawing room, Benjamin thinks Quentin and Harrison story of the parallel time room is "fantastic. How can you be sure it wasn't some sort of double illusion?" Harrison says "I doubt it, we saw exactly the same thing." Quentin agrees, and says that it's "something worth studying further." Kitty starts down the stairs and approaches the drawing room as she hears Quentin say "Uncle Roderick is sort of the family expert on matters of the supernatural and strange phenomena. I suppose he'll help us look into it." Kitty enters the room and asks "What's this I hear of supernatural and strange phenomena?" Benjamin says "Don't worry, my dear. Quentin is only talking about our eccentric Uncle's hobbies. This is nothing that concerns you." She answers "I certainly hope not. I scare quite easily."
In town, Valery is studying a ring on her hand as Trask stands behind her. "I can't believe it...I've never done something so impulsive in my life!" Trask laughs and asks her how it feels to be "a lawyer's wife." Valery says she doesn't feel any different, but that she's glad she "went ahead and did what I wanted to. No one told me or controlled me." Trask leers and says "Of course not" before hugging her. Valery wonders aloud how the rest of the family will react when they return, and Trask says "they will have to live with the reality." Valery says she knows the reality will be a happy one. Trask suddenly remembers something, and says he has to call his office. "I'll be right back." He goes back into the minister's office and asks to use the phone. He dials the operator, and we cut to a phone ringing in a bedroom. Alice picks it up. Cut back to Trask who says with a smile "It is done. You know what to do now." Alice smiles and hangs up the phone. Catherine asks who it was and Alice answers "It was an important call for me that I was waiting for." Catherine says "Why would anyone call you here?" Alice smiles and says "Why, indeed?" and picks up a spare pillow from the foot of the bed. Catherine scoffs that she should "get rid of that phone, since I'm so tired of hearing it ring all the time." Alice puffs the pillow in her hand and says "Well, you won't have to hear that phone ring anymore...." as she approaches Catherine's face with the pillow in her hands. Catherine begins to gasp "Alice! No! No! Nooooo!"
