Episode 1435

Aired: Friday December 24, 1971

Nancy Barrett's voiceover: "The estate of Collinwood is a place of plots and treachery in the strange and dangerous world of parallel time in the year 1897. Everyone living in the great house plans against one another in pursuit of control of the family wealth. Quentin Collins will try to end the fighting by making his grandmother's true will public. He has entrusted Harrison Collins, the mysterious stranger from another time and another world masquerading as a Collins family cousin, with that will. But on this night, those plans will be upset by a strange twist of fate, one that will place the entire Collins family in more danger than they can possibly imagine...."

Quentin comes into Collinwood with another man, the lawyer Alonzo Hess (Michael Stroka). He tells him to go into the drawing room and make himself comfortable. Harrison comes downstairs and Quentin tells him they should "gather everyone into the drawing room for this." Harrison says he's not sure if Trask is around to hear "the sad news," and Quentin says "Who cares? Let's gather everyone important before we get the will and settle all this." They both go upstairs.

After the titles, we're back in the woods with Charity, Carl & Gladstone. Gladstone is telling them both to "leave these woods and never return!" Carl tells Gladstone that "I know that means you've found something! You must have found something after Beth Chavez was killed last night!" Gladstone looks away and thinks "Beth Chavez... that's who it was....oh my god....what power takes me over when I sleep?" Carl asks him if he's found any clues, and Gladstone says "Nothing yet...but I will stop this killer, Carl! I promise you, I will find a way to stop him!" Meanwhile, back at Collinwood, Kitty and Edward enter the drawing room to find Hess waiting there. He introduces himself and Kitty says "I understand you and Quentin have something very important to discuss with us." "Yes," Hess says. "But I'd prefer to wait for everyone to arrive. Are you Mrs. Collins?" Edward laughs and says no, but that "she's still a very, very special lady." "Indeed?" Hess asks as Kitty looks him over. Valery comes in and says hello to Hess, and tells him that she knows what "this gathering" is all about. Hess asks Valery if "her husband" is here as well, and Valery says "I don't know where he is, and in all honesty Mr. Hess, he won't be my husband too much longer. I'd assume shortly after your new will becomes the accepted document my marriage will, for all intents and purposes, be over." Harrison comes in and asks where Quentin and Benjamin are. Valery says she doesn't know, and Harrison asks her if Trask is there. She says no, and Harrison says "I'm glad for that." Meanwhile, Quentin is upstairs looking for Benjamin, who is not in his room. Quentin enters his own room and says "Benjamin? Are you in here?" He doesn't see him, but before he leaves, he sees the beginnings of the note Beth was leaving him. He picks it up and we hear him reading it in his mind "Quentin, I've discovered something about the evil things happening here. You must know who is responsible, even though it might pain you to know it's your...." He looks for more of the note but can't find it. He holds the paper in his hand and says "Beth's handwriting...she was trying to tell me who was going to kill her..."

Charity and Carl have helped Gladstone back to the old house. Charity tells him she'll get him something to drink. Once she leaves, Gladstone grabs Carl and tells him "Now that she's gone I can tell you....I didn't want anyone else to hear... I think only you will understand.... I don't know why that is, but I do...." Carl asks him what he's talking about. Gladstone tells him that there's an "evil spirit at work here." Carl, excited, asks Gladstone if he's found some clues as to the killer's identity. Gladstone looks very dour, and says "We're dealing with some sort of supernatural force, a spirit that possesses someone and forces them to commit these crimes against their will. They only remember bits and pieces of it, like a bad dream. Apt that it should feel like a dream because the spirit possesses them while they sleep. They wake up in a strange place not knowing how they got there..." Carl starts to back away, realizing that Gladstone is talking about himself. "You? You?" Carl yells. Gladstone shushes him, and says "I don't know! I can't be sure! Like I said, the spirit takes hold of my while I sleep! I am helpless to stop him!" Carl says "That's insane! You weren't even living here when Jenny was killed! You've been working too hard at this! Don't you realize you're confessing to the murder of Beth Chavez?" Gladstone tells him no, because he has "no memory at all of last night" and that "I'll need plenty of coffee to stay awake. I'm sure I can find that cave again... that awful cave! You'll come with me! Maybe we can find a way to destroy this spirit!" Carl asks him what spirit it could be, and why it would take possession of him to murder people. "I don't know," Gladstone says. "But the answers are in that cave. And..." Charity comes back in with a glass of water. Gladstone thanks her, and asks her if its not too much trouble to make some coffee. She says she will, and he thanks her and sends her away again. Carl asks him what else they might have to do. "Not me, you, Carl," Gladstone answers. "I'm going to give you my gun. The last time I went into that cave, I blacked out. I can't be sure of what that means. If I become that killer again while we're there....I want you to shoot me and end this!" Carl can't believe what he's hearing.

At Collinwood, Quentin comes downstairs in deep thought. Harrison comes out of the drawing room and asks him if he "got it." Quentin says "Oh no, I forgot it upstairs. I found this and was distracted, I guess." He hands the note to Harrison who reads it and says "Beth wrote this?" Quentin says yes, and Harrison says "Strange. I wonder what she knew." Quentin says "We may never know now." Harrison adds "Unless whatever frightened her into writing this makes another move. Did you find Benjamin?" Quentin says no, but then Benjamin comes out of the doorway under the stairs and apologizes for being late "for this important gathering." He goes into the drawing room and glares at Edward, who stands next to Kitty. Hess says hello to Benjamin and asks "Are we all here now? Quentin, perhaps we should get this started." Quentin says he'll need to "get one more thing." Harrison says he'll go with him. Valery says "Why speak in secrets, Quentin? We all know you've found another will from grandmother. I'm willing to accept it. There's no need for secrets." Quentin smiles at Valery, as we pan around the room, and hear Kitty think "Yes, no more secrets. Once I control Jamison through Edward and dispose of them both, I will control this estate and use it as I see fit to make my home here, forever..." Edward is thinking "Kitty and I will control everything here once Jamison is made one of us." Benjamin is thinking "Little does Edward know his life will not last too much longer, and I will take his place as Jamison's father, standing at Kitty's side." We're back on Valery and Quentin, and Valery says "As you can see, it seems we're all comfortable with this." Hess says "And where is this will?" Harrison says "I'll get it." He and Quentin head upstairs. They come down the hallway to the parallel time room. Harrison walks in and pops open the secret compartment in the small table. He takes the will out. Quentin comes in and tells him how happy he is to have remembered his "favorite place to hide things when I was a child." Harrison remarks how it certainly came in handy. He places the will in his coat pocket as Quentin watches and says "Let's head back, our oh so happy family is waiting." But just then, right before Quentin's eyes, Harrison suddenly vanishes! Quentin can't believe it, looks at the empty spot yelling "Harrison! Harrison!" We cut to Harrison standing in the same spot in the empty room in 1897 regular time. He looks around and realizes what just happened. "The room...changed but only for me....I'm back in my own world....and Quentin saw me vanish!"

Harrison is standing in the empty PT room and we hear him think "This may be an opportunity...I sat in that room for hours at a time waiting to come back here... down in the basement in the old laboratory is a working crystal to replace this clouded one in my ring...with it I could return to that other Quentin at will.... I must get it." He leaves the room and carefully walks down the hall. It's dark and abandoned, with only some junk along the way. We hear Harrison thinking "If I am here, in my own world...this should be the year 1897 as well... that means depending on what day this is, any number of things could be happening here at Collinwood that would affect my own future...I will need to be extremely careful and discreet...no one here must see me...." He peeks out of a door from the east wing, and sees no one. He moves down a hallway. Next, we see him peek out the door to the main stairway in the foyer. There's no one there. "I'm in luck, this should take no time at all," we hear him think as he starts downstairs. He turns the corner towards the door under the stairs, but suddenly Charity/Pansy Faye comes out of the drawing room and calls to him in her cockney accent "'Ere! Who are you and what are you doin' here?" He freezes in his tracks and has no answer.
