Episode 1439

Aired: Thursday December 30, 1971

Grayson Hall's voiceover: "It is a crucial moment in a tale of two Collinwoods (sorry, couldn't resist! - CDT) and a critical moment for the man caught between both worlds. Harrison Collins, who found himself in the strange and dangerous world of parallel time in the year 1897, has been transported back to his own world, but in the same year. And at that Collinwood, one of the most dangerous enemies the Collins family had ever faced has found him too, and seeks passage to the world of parallel time...."

Petofi holds THE HAND on Charity/Pansy's throat and tells Harrison that he will "snap her neck" unless Harrison takes him "to the room in question." Gasping, Charity tells Harrison not to do it, and that "I'd rather die than see Petofi succeed at anything!" Petofi laughs and tells her she just might, but Harrison tells him to stop. "Let her go," Harrison says. "I'll show you the room." Petofi lets Charity go, and Charity tells Harrison he's making a big mistake. Harrison says "I'd rather live with my mistake than with your death on my conscience." Petofi smiles and says "Always the gallant young man, aren't we, Mr. Harrison?" Harrison takes a step down towards Petofi and says "I'm not completely selfless, Count Petofi. When you come back with me into that parallel world, the price of that passage will be your help in rescuing Valery." Petofi starts up the stairs and says "I think you will find, Mr. Harrison, that I am a man of my word..." The two of them walk upstairs.

After the titles, Harrison opens the doors to the empty parallel time room and takes Petofi inside. Petofi is unimpressed, and says "This is merely an empty room in a part of this magnificent house untouched in years....what causes this strange phenomenon?" Harrison says he's not sure, and that he was studying it "back in my own world." Petofi asks if they have to do anything to make the room change, and Harrison says "I have no idea how to control if, even if that is possible. We simply have to wait here until it happens." Petofi takes a seat on the bench near the window and says "Thank heavens I am a patient man, Mr. Harrison. Because if this is a ruse of yours, you will be most regretful." Harrison says it's not and turns his back on Petofi. As Petofi looks out the window, Harrison takes the crystal out of his pocket and hides it in his hand. He closes his eyes as Petofi says "How often does the change take place?" Harrison, keeping his eyes closed, says "It could happen at anytime. The room can.....change.....when you..." And as soon as he said "change," the room does indeed change, and both Harrison and Petofi are in the completely furnished room in parallel time. Petofi stands up and looks around, astounded. "Magnificent!" he says. He looks at the furniture and the curtains, and says "The same room, the same house...in a parallel world. A parallel world where none of my enemies can find me...where I am at last safe!" As Petofi raves on, Harrison discreetly places the crystal back in his pocket, and tells Petofi "We need to get downstairs and complete our....bargain." Petofi says "Oh, yes, yes, by all means my boy. I don't want to stay in this room much longer, beautiful as it is....I want nothing to take me back to my own world...." Harrison stops Petofi for a second and tells him "No one else here knows the secret of this room, except for Quentin....and I demand that you help me keep it that way." Petofi says "I agree with you, Mr. Harrison. I don't want anyone to discover the secret of this room any more than you do." Harrison wonders what hidden meanings might lie in that statement as the two of them head out.

Meanwhile, Valery has drunk more of the water in the cabin and is waking up from another near-coma. The blood is gone, and so is a lot of her memory, though she keeps looking at herself and asking "Am I dead? Is this death? Am I to be trapped in here for all eternity?" She stumbles around and finds the gun again, along with a new envelope with fancy lettering addressed to "Valery." She opens it, and begins to read aloud "The Angel of Death will come for you, Valery....and she will destroy you. Your only chance is to..." but the note ends. Valery frantically searches for another piece of the note, repeating "What must I do? I must prevent the Angel of Death from taking me...but what if I'm already dead? I thought I was....but I'm still here....but where is this?" As Valery continues to lose her mind, she does manage to find the gun. She smiles as she picks it up. Underneath it is another piece of paper. She picks it up and reads "....you must shoot to kill. The only way to kill the Angel of Death is to shoot straight through the heart. You will know her by her red hair and by the reaping blade she carries..." Valery smiles like a mental patient and clutches the gun to her chest. We cut to Trask and Alice in the woods. Alice says "You're sure she's lost her mind already?" Trask "The chemicals I purloined from that pharmacist in the village should destroy her memory, her identity, and finally her sanity. The water I left her in that deserted cabin has been saturated with a decisive mixture of all of the drugs we will need to have Valery declared insane and incompetent. And then there will be no one to challenge our power at Collinwood." Alice asks Trask how he can be sure, and he says "I will take you to her, Alice. You can see for yourself. I want you to enter the cabin and add this last vial to the water. It will destroy whatever is left of Valery's mind." Alice takes the vial and smiles evilly. Trask suddenly takes a knife out of his pocket and hands it to Alice. "You'd better carry this, though. Who knows how dangerous she might be in her present state? I wouldn't want anything to happen to you." Alice takes the knife and smiles at Trask, who smiles back knowingly.

Back at Collinwood, Harrison and Petofi come downstairs and run into Quentin, coming out of the drawing room. He yells "Harrison! You're back!" and runs to Harrison. Harrison says "Yes, yes, I'm fine." Quentin sees Petofi and says "Who is this? What happened in that room? You must know, you must tell me!" Harrison says "Please, I'll explain everything. First, let me introduce Count Petofi. Count Petofi, this is..." Petofi interrupts and says "Quentin Collins, yes, I recognize him." Quentin asks Petofi how he knows him, and Harrison says "I'll explain, but I must explain quickly! Valery is in the utmost danger! Trask is holding her prisoner somewhere!" Quentin, shocked, asks Harrison what he's talking about. Meanwhile, Alice and Trask have reached the cabin. Alice says she doesn't hear anything, and Trask says "She must have passed out again from the potion. Now will be your best opportunity to see her in this wretched state." Alice holds the knife and says "All my life I've waited to see Valery like this...always favored by everyone because of her beauty....now we will see who the true survivor is...." Back at Collinwood, Quentin has heard an earful from Harrison, and says "Parallel time? So that's what happened when I saw that room change before?" Harrison says "Exactly..." Quentin starts to ask another question, but Harrison cuts him off and says "In that other time, someone showed me a vision of Valery in this one. She is in grave danger and we must save her!" Quentin says "But how? You said you don't know where she is." Harrison says "Count Petofi has offered to help." Quentin looks at Petofi and asks point blank "If you're from that other time, did you only come here to help Harrison save Valery? Seems an awful risk to take considering you may not get back." Petofi smiles and says "That is what is so convenient about my arrangement with Mr. Harrison, Quentin. I do not want to get back. And all I need to locate this young lady is to use that mirror on the wall." Harrison and Quentin look at each other as Petofi stands in front of the mirror and then waves THE HAND over it. It clouds, and then we see Valery crouching on the bed holding the gun nervously. Quentin says "Oh my God! Look at her! What kind of powers do you have, Petofi?" Petofi answers "Powers that are in your service at the moment, Mr. Collins." Harrison says "We still can't tell where that is." Petofi moves his hand, and we then see the outside of the cabin. Quentin looks for a moment and says "That old farmhouse...I recognize it! It's the old Braithwaite farm, it's been abandoned for years. I used to play there when I was a boy." In the mirror image, they see Alice holding the knife and going towards the door with Trask behind her. Harrison, angrily says "Look! They mean to kill her!" Quentin grabs Harrison and says he knows a "quick way" of getting there. They both run out of the house as Petofi looks around triumphantly. "Oh...I may like it here a great deal..." he says. Meanwhile, Valery aims the gun at the door as the knob begins to turn....
