Episode 1324

Aired: Thursday July 22, 1971

After a replay of Wednesday's close and the titles, Angelique tells David she doesn't know what he's talking about, and David says that "she'll see" when he gets his pictures back from the drugstore in town. They leave to head up to Collinwood. At Collinwood, Roger is asking Harrison about the New York branch of the family, and Barnabas is curious as well. "I understand the branch of the family was started by a Quentin Collins, who was somewhat of an eccentric scientist," Barnabas says. "Many people found him ahead of his time," Harrison says. "Actually, I have an heirloom of his, of sorts. This ring I'm wearing." He holds his hand up to Roger, and we see a red jeweled ring. "Well, you and Barnabas have similar tastes. He wears an ancestral ring as well." Roger says. Harrison looks at Barnabas' ring and says "That's certainly a piece of jewelry that one would find hard to forget." As Harrison looks Barnabas over, Barnabas tells Roger he thinks he will have a cup of coffee now since he doesn't know what's keeping Angelique. Roger leads him into the kitchen as Harrison says he'll catch up in a moment. Harrison walks over to Barnabas' portrait and looks at the painting of the ring on Barnabas' finger for a moment. The door opens and David comes in. He says hello to Harrison and then goes upstairs grumpy, and then Harrison turns to see Angelique enter the room. He is agape as she says "Hello, I don't think we've met" to him. He takes her hand and kisses it, saying "I'm Harrison Collins, I've just arrived from New York. Pardon me for being so forward, but suddenly Collinwood is looking much more beautiful." She is charmed by this, and then Barnabas comes in the room. "I am Angelique Collins," she says, pulling away from him and moving to Barnabas. "I see you've met my husband Barnabas." "Husband..." Harrison repeats. Barnabas smiles the victor's smile and says "Yes, we were recently married after a..... long courtship. Well, let us all join the others for breakfast." As they start to leave, we hear Harrison thinking "How right you are Roger... Barnabas and I certainly have similar tastes...."

Barnabas and Angelique are in the drawing room when Barnabas asks Angelique what she thinks of the family's new cousin. She says she finds him quite charming. Barnabas grumbles a bit, and Angelique smiles. "You're jealous of his attentions towards me," she says. Barnabas snaps "I am nothing of the sort. I only want to know more about his motives here." Angelique muses how things are so different now, since "I used to be the one who was jealous of you, Barnabas. I don't think I've ever seen this side of you before." Barnabas tells her that Harrison is not his concern, and that he "must speak to David" about an "important matter." Angelique says "It's Sarah, isn't it, Barnabas?" Barnabas is surprised to hear her say this, but she continues "She appeared to me at the old house. David walked in on us and saw me talking to her. I tried to deny what he had seen, but he insists I was lying." Barnabas says they can worry about David later since "hardly anyone will believe him," and wants to know what Sarah said to Angelique. Angelique tells Barnabas that Sarah only said that Jeremiah was sad, and wanted to help him. Barnabas is relieved to hear this, since it means that Sarah "cannot be angry with me, as Jeremiah is." Angelique says "She was always very important to you, wasn't she?" Barnabas gets a little sad and says "Yes. I always felt like I was responsible for her." Angelique hugs Barnabas tearfully and tells him how sorry she is about what happened to Sarah. He kisses her and says "We have each other." Harrison walks in on them kissing, and clumsily excuses himself. Angelique says it's no bother, and Harrison says "Well, then you won't mind if I sit down." Barnabas grumbles "No, of course not." Harrison mentions how quiet they seemed during breakfast, and then says "I never got the chance to ask either of you how you met." Angelique and Barnabas look at each other.

Barnabas tells Harrison that he and Angelique met "a long time ago, in England" before he found out she was living in Collinwood. They catch Harrison up on the lie that Barnabas and Angelique got back together after the "sad" death of her husband Sky Rumson. Angelique reminds Barnabas that he came over to talk to David, and Harrison says "Oh David is upstairs. Don't worry, I'll keep your lovely wife company until you get back." When Angelique sees Barnabas cringe at this prospect, she says "Well, I'd actually better be getting back to the old house. There are a few rooms I'm working on restoring." Harrison stands and says "Well, let me walk you back there, please. I'd really like to see the old house and what Barnabas and you have done with it." Angelique looks at Barnabas and he says "Well I would prefer you wait for me to finish my discussion with David first, and then we can return to the old house and I can show you what has been done." Harrison slyly smiles and says he'll be in the library whenever Barnabas is ready. After he leaves, Barnabas says "A rather persistent fellow, isn't he." Angelique says "there's nothing to worry about. He's obviously taken a liking to both of us." Barnabas says "I don't think it's both of us he's interested in." Barnabas leaves to go upstairs, and Angelique thinks a moment.

David is in his room, grumpy over the way Angelique treated him. He looks at the trunk he has been packing and then at some of the things around his room. He takes a box of some toys off a shelf and puts it on the floor before taking a ball out of it and playing catch with himself while he thinks "No one ever believes me. But why did she have to lie like that? Why does everyone think that I'm better off if I don't know the truth..." As he's thinking, he's cut off by Sarah's voice "Hello David!" He turns and sees her, and says "You're here! Sarah! You're here!" She giggles and says "Yes, David. Let's play catch!" He tosses her the ball and she throws it back. David then says "Sarah, remember once we played when every time I caught the ball, I got to ask you a question?" She says "Yes, I think I remember that." He says "Would you like to play again?" Sarah says "I don't know." He says "Come on, it will be fun" and throws her the ball. When she throws it back, he asks "Why did you come to see me just now?" She tosses the ball back and answers "Because I knew you were sad." He throws the ball back and asks "Do you know why I'm sad?" She throws it back and says "I don't know." He throws the ball back and asks "Why were you talking to Angelique?" Sarah drops her hands to her sides and lets the ball bounce past her. "I don't want to play anymore," she says. David pleads "Please, Sarah! You've got to tell me! I heard you talking to her!" He reaches into the toy boy and takes out the wooden toy soldier. "Remember when you gave me this, Sarah? You said I should never go to the old house and that this would protect me." Sarah turns away from him and says nothing. "Sarah, please, you've got to remember." We cut to outside in the hallway, as Barnabas is approaching David's room. When he hears the voices, he stops. Inside, Sarah says "I remember, David. But everything is different now. You're not the one who needs protection." David says "Who does Sarah? Tell me!" Outside, Barnabas hears the voices and gasps "Sarah!"
