Kate Jackson's voiceover: "It is a night of discoveries at the great house at Collinwood. While one man who has spent his life guarding a dark secret has found he can trust his young cousin more than he has ever known, other members of the Collins family is about to discover how many dark secrets of the past are often impossible to keep hidden...."
Quentin and Daphne return from their evening out and hear Angelique and Harrison talking in the drawing room. Quentin says to Daphne "That doesn't sound like Barnabas talking to Angelique. I wonder if that's our New York cousin..." In the drawing room, Angelique says "I wonder what is taking Barnabas so long with David." Harrison answers that "David is a very interesting person to talk to." Quentin enters, and Harrison turns to see him, and immediately smiles and says "Quentin!" Quentin wonders how he is so well known.
After the titles, Harrison apologizes for his "being so forward," and introduces himself to Quentin, after explaining "I couldn't help but know you after so many people described you to me." Quentin says he hopes it was all positive, and then introduces Daphne. Harrison says "Ah yes, David's governess who they told me about," and says he is pleased to meet her. Quentin asks Harrison how his trip was from New York, and Harrison says it was "fine." Quentin tells Harrison how he's planning on traveling to New York "very soon with Professor Stokes" to do some research on some of the family history there, but "while you're here, perhaps you can help us with some names and places." Harrison looks a little uncomfortable, and says he'll try to help, but that he knows "little of the details in his family's history." Quentin is surprised to hear this, and replies "Well, I'm sure you can tell us something that will be of help." Harrison says he hopes so, but "it will depend on what kind of information you're looking for." We cut to Barnabas coming down the stairs slowly, starting to listen to the conversation in the drawing room. As Quentin keeps asking Harrison to speak more about the New York family and Harrison keeps dodging the questions, Barnabas enters the room and says "Excuse me, but I couldn't help overhearing from the outside." He looks over towards Harrison while continuing "I'd like to hear all about the New York Collins family as well." Harrison looks nervous.
Harrison answers that "there's not much to tell," but Barnabas continues to press him. Angelique tells Barnabas that "Harrison must be tired, perhaps we can talk about this tomorrow." Harrison says it's all right, but that he "was hoping not to have to discuss this subject." Quentin asks him why, and Harrison says "I have been traveling for a long time, Quentin. This is because I have been rather estranged from my relatives for some time. I didn't want to tell anyone this, least of all Elizabeth or Roger. Please, let us keep this knowledge only between us." Barnabas and Quentin look at each other wondering what to say, and Harrison looks at Angelique briefly before leaving the room with "Please excuse me, I am very tired." Harrison leaves and closes the drawing room doors behind him. Angelique scolds Barnabas for putting so much pressure on Harrison, and Barnabas tells Angelique that he's sorry if he's hurt her but that "there's something rather odd about him. Something I can't quite fathom quite yet." Quentin says that he understands what it's like to be estranged from your relatives, and "perhaps Harrison is more sensitive to it than I was." Barnabas says that maybe Quentin is right, and we cut outside to Harrison standing by the door listening. When he hears that everyone has believed his story, he smiles smugly.
Quentin and Daphne come out of the drawing room and she asks him what kind of things Stokes and he will be looking for in New York. Quentin answers that they'll be looking for "any leads" as to Daphne's history, her family, or her connection to Professor Anderson. Daphne says she hopes that they will find something, since she "cannot stand not knowing everything about her identity." Quentin hugs her and tells her that he will find "all her answers for her." She says she believes him, and she rests her head against him. "I should go check on David," she says, but Quentin says that she can wait. She tells Quentin how she knows how fond he is of David, and how it may even make Roger jealous. Quentin laughs a little and says "maybe." Daphne says "Well, perhaps someday you'll have your own children." Quentin looks sad while answering "Maybe..." again, but as we look at the sad expression on his face, we fade to the full moon in the night sky.
In the drawing room, Barnabas asks Angelique what she and Harrison were discussing, and she tries to avoid the subject. Barnabas says he doesn't like "the style of attention he shows you" and Angelique says that she "can handle Harrison. I am sure he will get the message that I am not interested in anyone but my husband." She moves to kiss Barnabas, but suddenly the lights go out in the room, and as Barnabas and Angelique hold each other, the secret panel opens and Jeremiah steps out. We hear him laughing as Barnabas stands in front of Angelique and yells at him to "Get back!" Jeremiah begins to approach Barnabas with his hands outstretched, but then the drawing room doors open, and it's Carolyn. She sees Jeremiah moving towards Barnabas, and yells "Barnabas! What is it? What is it?"
