Episode 1267

Aired: Tuesday May 4, 1971

After a repeat of yesterday's close and the titles, Quentin accuses Daphne of working against the Collins family. She denies this, saying she'd never hurt David and that she was really coming to warn him. Quentin is skeptical, but Julia leads her inside and asks her if she wants to be free from Anderson and Roxanne's influence. "If you help us," Julia says, "you can get your life back." But Daphne gets frightened and says "I don't remember what that life was!"

Quentin asks Daphne to explain what she means, and Daphne tells him that she has no memory of who she was or what she was before she was working for Anderson. Quentin asks her if she thinks Anderson's powers erased her memory, but Daphne isn't sure. Barnabas says there may be a way of finding out, and suggests Julia hypnotize her to see if she will remember anything at all when placed in a trance. Julia asks Daphne if this is okay, and Daphne is frightened, though when Quentin tells her that he'd rather have her as an ally than an enemy, she agrees and Julia takes her trusty medallion from out of her purse.

Julia puts Daphne into a trance to get her to remember her past, and whatever else about Anderson's plans she may know but cannot reveal consciously while under his power. Julia asks her when she first met Professor Anderson and Daphne says she can't remember, but that "he wants to destroy the Collins family." Julia asks why, and all Daphne says is "Revenge. He wants revenge." This answer confuses Barnabas, and he pressures Julia to ask more about Anderson. Daphne gets frightened and says she cannot answer or she will die. Barnabas pressures more, and Julia tries to put Daphne into a deeper trance. Daphne goes into a deep sleep, but before Julia can ask any more questions, Daphne suddenly opens her eyes, looks at Quentin and smiles. "Quentin! There you are! You must get ready for your conference at the university." Quentin looks confused as Daphne walks to him. Julia tells Barnabas that she is still under. Daphne starts to straighten Quentin's clothes while saying "Such strange clothing, even for a group of eccentric scientists. I think you should change, say goodbye to Tad and be on your way." Quentin is confused, but Barnabas looks at her and simply says "Tad!"

Julia leads Daphne back to her seat and asks her who she is, and the answer is "Daphne Harridge Collins. Don't you remember, Julia? It's so good to see you here in New York. I thought you returned to England with your brother Barnabas." Barnabas looks at her and says "No, I am here." and then slowly asks "What year is this?" Daphne laughs, and replies "What an odd question!" "Please answer me, " Barnabas says. Daphne answers "1847, of course." Barnabas looks at Julia and excitedly says "Is it really her? Or perhaps a reincarnation?" Julia says she doesn't know how to explain it, and Quentin asks to know what's going on. Barnabas looks at him and says "You are the image of your namesake, just as she is the image of Daphne Harridge Collins. I think she and your namesake's wife are one in the same." Quentin looks at Daphne, who smiles back at him innocently.

Julia is bringing Daphne out of her trance with some post-hypnotic suggestion to resist Anderson's control over her. Daphne nods that she will, and then Julia tells her to sleep until she snaps her fingers. Barnabas stops her a moment and tells her that they still haven't found anything out about how to free the family. Quentin snaps "Isn't it obvious? We must destroy Anderson and Roxanne." Barnabas has pangs of guilt over Roxanne, and Julia suggests that perhaps destroying Anderson will free Roxanne as well as the family. Barnabas is doubtful, and says he agrees with Quentin. Julia snaps her fingers and Daphne wakes up, asking if they have learned anything. Quentin takes her hand and only says "A great deal" before kissing it.
