Episode 1366

Aired: Monday September 20, 1971

In a repeat of Friday's close, Nicholas returns from his I Ching trance with a scream as Willie helps him regain consciousness. He places a large object covered with a blue cloth on the table and explains to Willie "I brought this back from the depths of the past. The thing I need to destroy Barnabas Collins....and Angelique as well! Take a look!" Nicholas pulls the cloth off the object like a magician revealing a trick, and Willie can't quite believe what he sees - a severed head inside a glass box that we recognize as the eyes open and Nicholas says with a smile "Willie Loomis, let me introduce you to Judah Zachary!"

After the titles, Willie is horrified by the sight of the severed head when it opens its eyes. "What....what is that thing? Who is it?" Willie gasps. "Don't gaze upon him too long, Willie, " Nicholas warns. "His glare can be very powerful....very hypnotic....and totally evil." Willie turns away but says "I don't wanna look at it...but I don't know....something tells me I gotta look at him! I gotta!" Nicholas covers the head with the cloth again and tells Willie "Judah's power has compelled you. Congratulations, Willie, you have a very weak mind. Easily led and dominated by others, perfect for my purposes! You may turn around now." Willie turns around and asks who's head it is and "why is that thing still alive? I swear it's lookin' at me! It's like it's talkin' to me, inside my head!" Nicholas laughs and tells Willie "Judah Zachary was a most powerful warlock, and a servant of my master. He was a sworn enemy of the Collins family and almost destroyed it over a hundred years ago.... and would have succeeded if not for the meddling of Barnabas Collins and Angelique... I will see to it that Judah has his revenge!" Nicholas tells Willie to guard Judah "as if you life depends on it, for it does" as he leaves the room to "prepare his plan." Once Nicholas has gone, Willie sits but keeps staring at the covered up head. He starts pacing, trying to keep himself from taking the cloth off. We hear him think "You can't look at it....Nicholas warned ya... it's too dangerous......" but as he paces more, we hear "I can't stand it! It's like I gotta look at it! He wants me to...Judah....he wants me to!!" Willie gasps in desperation and pulls the cloth off the glass box containing the head. Judah's eyes open and stare directly at Willie. As Judah begins to glare at him, Willie clutches at his head and starts screaming "No! NO! STOP IT! SHUT IT OFF!!!"

Maggie stares out the window of her room at Windcliff. She seems catatonic as she starts to say "Maggie....Maggie Evans. I must remember that I'm Maggie Evans.... Maggie Evans...." Suddenly she hears "Hello" from behind her, and turns to see Sarah is standing in her room. Maggie looks at Sarah confused - she does not recognize her. Sarah says "I've found you! I was looking all over for you. Then I remembered how you can be here sometimes." Maggie gets a little scared and says "Hello....do I know you?" Sarah laughs a little and says "Of course you do, don't you remember?" Maggie gets sad and says "No...I'm sorry....I can't remember anything....." Sarah says "Why did you forget me? I'm your friend!" Maggie says "I'm sorry....I couldn't help it! Please.... I'll be your friend." Sarah turns away and says "How do I know you won't forget again?" Maggie says "I don't know. Why can't I remember?" Sarah walks to her and says "Maybe I can help you remember. Do you remember when I gave you my doll?" Maggie smiles and says "No...but thank you. I wish I could remember that. What did your doll look like?" Sarah shrugs and says "Like a little girl, I guess. Do you remember anything we did together?" Maggie shakes her head no. Sarah thinks a moment and says "Do you remember when I helped you go home from here last time?" Maggie gets curious and says "I've been here before?" Sarah says "Yes. A long time ago. And I helped you find your way home." Maggie starts thinking for a moment, and starts to remember "We walked back to Collinsport....we walked and...we sang! I remember!" Sarah gets excited and says "Yes! We did" and starts singing "London Bridge," but when she gets to "Take the key and lock her up, lock her up, lock her up..." Maggie gets terrified of the lyrics, but can't stop repeating them. She starts to yell the line and from outside her door, Julia can hear her in near hysterics. Julia unlocks the door and finds Maggie on her bed hysterically crying. Julia rushes to her to calm her down, but all Maggie says is "Sarah! Sarah! Where did you go? You're my friend! Sarah!" Julia holds Maggie but looks around, wondering if Sarah has been there.

Maggie has calmed down and is drinking a cup of water as Julia watches her. Julia asks her if she wants any more, and Maggie says no. "I had a friend," Maggie says. Julia takes the cup and says "Yes, I know. You've mentioned her before. A little girl named Sarah." Maggie asks "Where did she go? And she was dressed so strangely...I thought I knew why for a moment, just a moment, but now I can't remember." Julia sits next to her and asks "What do you remember?" Maggie says "She was here. She was talking to me. She said she wanted to help me." Julia nods, and says "Did she say how she wanted to help you?" Maggie shakes her head no, and says "She said she wanted to take me home, and then she started singing and...." Maggie gets scared again as she remembers the song, but Julia calms her and tells her it's all right. "Why am I so frightened?" Maggie asks desperately. "What am I so frightened of?" Julia tells her "I don't know." We fade back to Nicholas, coming down the stairs of his house and entering his living room. When he comes in, he immediately notices that Judah's head and Willie are both gone. Shocked, he starts to frantically look around the room, until he hears maniacal laughing and screaming from behind the cellar door. Nicholas carefully opens it, and Willie suddenly lunges at Nicholas. Nicholas steps out of the way as Willie rants "It's talkin' to me....it's talkin' to me all the time!" and starts laughing uncontrollably. Nicholas yells at Willie to shut up and demands to know where Judah's head is. Willie keeps laughing, and walks towards Nicholas with wild eyes, saying "It's everywhere, dontcha know? It's everywhere....talkin' to me....tellin' me things inside my head...." Nicholas backs away, but Willie keeps getting closer and closer.

Willie lunges at Nicholas' throat, but Nicholas breaks free and runs behind the cellar door. He nearly trips over the glass box containing the head, which is sitting in front of him. Judah's eyes are closed. Nicholas puts the cloth over the box and starts to close the cellar door behind him with his free hand, but Willie pushes it open, nearly knocking Nicholas down. "You can't touch it!" Willie screams. "You can't touch it while it talks to me! You're not supposed to touch it!" Willie rushes at Nicholas again, but this time Nicholas steps aside and pushes Willie further down the cellar before running back into the living room and slamming the cellar door behind him. Nicholas puts the covered head on the table as we hear Willie pounding on the cellar door and yelling. Nicholas walks to the desk and takes a gun out of a drawer, just in time as Willie breaks the cellar door down. Nicholas points the gun at him and says "Loomis, listen to me....you've got to listen to me. Judah is not intended for you, you've got to will yourself away...." Willie gets confused and still rants "He's talkin' to me and I can't make him stop! Make him stop then! I can't make him stop!" Willie starts crying and laughing at the same time as Nicholas looks at him, disgusted, and says "You idiot. I should have known your feeble mind would be destroyed in the presence of Judah Zachary's power." Willie collapses to the floor, and Nicholas lowers his gun as he walks over to see what happened. As he leans over Willie, Willie suddenly springs to life and punches Nicholas in the jaw knocking him to the side! The gun falls out of Nicholas' hand, and Willie makes a try for it, but Nicholas gets there first. Willie pushes Nicholas aside, and still laughing uncontrollably, runs out of the living room and out the front door. Nicholas gets up slowly and checks that the gun is fully loaded. We hear him think "Loomis has gone completely insane....there's only one way to stop him now....and I must do it....before he can tell anyone..." Nicholas takes the gun and leaves his house.

Episode 1365

Aired: Friday September 17, 1971

After a replay of Thursday's close, Harrison repeats his question to Sarah, but she does not answer. He says "Please, you must tell me if I am to help you." Sarah shakes her head and says she doesn't need his help. "But you promised to answer my question if I answered yours," he says. "I'm not afraid of Barnabas," Sarah says. "It's just that I promised...." Harrison asks "What did you promise?" Sarah says "I can't tell you. It's a secret. It's not nice to give away secrets." Harrison kneels down and says "What if I told you a secret first? Would it be okay then?" Sarah thinks a moment and says she doesn't know, since "it would depend on the secret." "Well, I'll take my chances," Harrison says. "I know a secret about you. Would you like to hear it?" Sarah says "I didn't know there were secrets about me! Do I know this secret already?" Harrison smiles at her answer, and continues "I know you are Sarah Collins. And that you lived here a very long time ago." Sarah laughs a little and says "I knew that already! That's not really a secret." Harrison continues "I also know that you once had an older brother Barnabas." Sarah interrupts him with "I have to go now." Harrison takes a step towards her and says "Please... is that the reason you are afraid of his descendant now?" Sarah yells "I told you! I'm not afraid of him! Now I have to go!" She runs into the woods and Harrison takes a few steps in her direction calling her, but when he passes a tree, she has vanished. He picks her flute up from the ground and looks it over.

Willie hands the I Ching wands to Nicholas who tells him to sit and wait. "Do not disturb me during this trance, I don't care what happens!" he adds. Nicholas throws the wands on the table again, studies them for a moment, and then smiles. "Look! They have formed the exact same hexagram as before! Hexagram 36...Ming I... the darkening of the light! The rise of the evil man towards triumph! I shall not fail this time," he says as he sits down and concentrates. After a while, the hexagram appears in Nicholas' mind and then on a metal door. The door opens, and Nicholas walks inside. At first, there is nothing but darkness, but as Nicholas looks around, he sees the small ball of light in the center of the room, and it begins to grow larger and brighter. Nicholas smiles and reaches his hands out towards it. Back in his house, he starts to groan and flash with electricity again. Willie begins to panic, but stops himself from doing anything to help Nicholas. He hides behind a chair and watches Nicholas helplessly as we cut to Harrison walking through the woods holding Sarah's flute. As he turns a corner, he runs into Barnabas. Harrison says he needs to get back to Collinwood, but Barnabas spots the flute in his hand. "Where did you get that?" he asks sternly. "I bought it in town..." he begins to say, but Barnabas cuts him off. "Don't lie to me. I know who's flute that is. It belongs to Sarah. You must have seen her in the woods just now. I must know what she said to you." Harrison frowns and replies "You must know? I don't understand why you must know my business." Barnabas answers "I must know when it interferes with mine. You said you were determined to help the ghost of a small child. I need to know why she needs your help." Harrison starts to walk away with a sarcastic "Do you really...." but Barnabas grabs him. "Yes, I do," he says menacingly. Harrison looks at Barnabas' grip on his sleeve.

"Let go of my arm," Harrison says. "I will when I get some answers. You've been curious about me ever since you arrived here, and now you won't answer a simple question. Let's put our cards on the table, shall we?" Harrison answers "I would appreciate that." Barnabas snaps "I know who Sarah is, and I wish very much to talk to her." Harrison asks "Why?" and Barnabas answers "I have my reasons." Harrison pulls away from Barnabas and says "Well, perhaps I have my reasons for keeping secrets from you, Barnabas. I think the fact that the ghost of a child who lived almost two hundred years ago fears you is very interesting, to say the least." Barnabas turns away and says "I have no idea why she might be afraid of me." Harrison replies "It's certainly a mystery to me. Many things about you are a mystery to me, Barnabas. The family loves and respects you, they speak to me of your gallantry and heroism. Quentin counts you among his greatest friends, Miss Winters, Doctor Hoffman, and....Angelique.....all are so totally devoted to you..." Barnabas turns to him and snaps "And that surprises you? Why?" Harrison only answers "I have my reasons." Barnabas hmphs, and says "Perhaps you do. I don't care to know them. But I can promise you that if you do anything to harm the spirit of Sarah in your clumsy attempts to supposedly help her, I will see to it that you will be very very sorry." Barnabas pushes him aside and walks away. Harrison watches him go and thinks "Why would Barnabas be so protective over Sarah? And all the people here really do respect and admire him. None of this makes any sense and I am getting nowhere. What if the only way to accomplish what I came here to do is to.... reveal everything?" Harrison shudders at the thought.

Nicholas is still crackling with electricity and the groans have gone to screams as Willie begs for it all "to stop" as he cowers behind the furniture. In Nicholas' trance, he is holding the large glowing light and screaming as well, but he will not let go. "I....have.....it.....I have....it!" Nicholas says. He repeats the same thing in the house as Willie listens, and tells back "Nicholas! What is it? What is it?" Nicholas, through his pain and electric flashes, yells "I....have....it! I must hold on.....I must return!" Willie yells again "What are you holdin' on to? Nicholas!!!" Nicholas yells louder than ever as a bright flash cracks in the room. It knocks Willie off his feet and to the floor. He rolls over and looks towards the table. "Nicholas!" he yells as he crawls across the floor to Nicholas, who is laying face down. "Help....me....help me up...." Nicholas says weakly. Willie starts to help him up, and Nicholas is holding what looks like a large object covered with a blue cloth. "What is that?" Willie says. "Where did it come from?" Nicholas says "Help me....I'll put it down here....." Nicholas staggers to the table and sets the object down. "Get me the brandy Willie..." Nicholas says as he's catching his breath. Willie fetches the brandy and asks "What is it? Where did it come from?" Nicholas takes a drink and answers "It came from the darkest depths, Willie. And I snatched it from the abyss and returned it here, to this world, from my trance... I think an ordinary man would have been crushed by the awesome power of the I Ching, but not me. I was successful." Willie starts to look a little wary and asks again "Successful how? What is it that you brought back from.....wherever you said?" Nicholas walks over to the table and says "I brought this back from the depths of the past.

Episode 1364

Aired: Thursday September 16, 1971

After a replay of Wednesday's close, Barnabas asks Julia if she can "suppress the dangerous portions of Maggie's memory." Julia says she doesn't know for sure, since the shock of what happened to her with Roxanne may have "rekindled" all of her lost memories. Barnabas gets very sad and says "Of all the things I have done which I regret, I would have to say the pain I caused that girl hurts the most." Julia says "We've all done things we've regretted, Barnabas. And then it seems we spend the rest of our lives trying to make up for it." Barnabas replies "With Maggie Evans in the state she is in, I could make up for a lot more if I could find another way to rid us of Nicholas Blair." As Julia thinks about this, we cut to Nicholas with Willie at his house. Willie is picking up the I Ching wands from the floor as Nicholas says "You have inspired me, Loomis. I think I know where I made my mistake." Willie hands Nicholas the wands as Nicholas continues "The I Ching is one of the most ancient divination tools....one that works on the theory that the correct reading of seemingly random occurrences reveals the greater patterns of the universe, including the patterns of time." Willie asks "Time? Is that how Barnabas used them?" Nicholas says "Yes. But the hexagram he used to travel back in time was not prearranged, as was mine the last time I tried using these wands. Barnabas randomly produced that hexagram, the proper way to utilize these wands to control one's destiny. I, too, must see what the rules of chance tell me about my chances." Willie "What are you trying to do?" Nicholas "You will see if I succeed. If it is possible for one to journey back through time, it should be possible for other transfers to take place." Willie says "I don't know what you mean." Nicholas hmphs, and throws the wands on the table in front of them. Willie looks at the wands and says "They're different than before! They made a different sign!" Nicholas smiles and says "Yes... a pattern for me and me alone." Willie wonders what that may mean.

Nicholas takes a book off the shelf and begins to look up the meaning of the pattern. He smiles when he finds it, announcing "Yes, here it is! Hexagram 36...Ming I... the darkening of the light. The triumph of the evil man! What could be more perfectly suited to what I have in mind!" Nicholas grabs a chair and sits in front of the table, saying "Willie, I am going to concentrate on this pattern. See that I am not disturbed." Willie nods nervously. Back at Collinwood, Barnabas and Vicky arrive, discussing Maggie. Vicky tells Barnabas that Maggie "didn't even recognize me" and is still upset by it. Barnabas tells her that "Maggie suffered a great shock, Vicky. You shouldn't take it personally." Vicky says she wishes there was something she could do for Maggie, but Barnabas assures her that "Julia is doing all she can." They walk into the drawing room, and Barnabas suddenly looks shocked when he glances over towards the portrait of Joshua. He picks up a small bonnet from the floor and says "She was here! Look!" Vicky looks at the bonnet and identifies it as Sarah's, saying "It must have fallen off when she was here talking to me earlier." Barnabas clutches it tightly, and says "Perhaps if I keep this, she will come for it. Perhaps she left it here for me to find." Vicky smiles and says she hopes so, for Barnabas' sake. Harrison walks into the drawing room and says good afternoon as Barnabas hides the bonnet in his pocket. Harrison asks Vicky "How is your sick friend doing?" Vicky says "Not too well, I'd rather not talk about it." Harrison apologizes for bringing it up, and Vicky excuses herself. Harrison says "She seems very upset. I hope her friend recovers from whatever she ails from." Barnabas says "We all hope for that. But I fear Maggie Evans has suffered such a severe shock that her personality is almost completely submerged into her subconscious. She didn't even recognize Vicky." Harrison asks "Could she recognize you?" Barnabas thinks a moment and answers "No, no she didn't." Harrison says "What caused such a shock to her? I don't think I've ever heard of such a case before." Barnabas answers "I really don't know. I only know it was a shock related to a severe fright of some sort." Harrison pours himself a drink and says "I can understand someone being easily frightened around Collinwood." Barnabas asks "What do you mean?" Harrison offers Barnabas a drink which Barnabas declines, and then continues "Well, the great house has certainly lived up to its legends of ghosts and spirits as far as I'm concerned." Barnabas says "Oh?" and Harrison continues "Yes. In fact, I've seen some myself since I've been here." Barnabas smiles and says "There are many people here who would not admit to seeing ghosts for fear of bring thought intoxicated." Harrison replies "I'm fairly confident that you believe me. Especially since one of the ghosts I've seen is a little girl named Sarah. I saw you put her bonnet into your pocket before I came in here." Barnabas is dumbstruck.

Barnabas turns away from Harrison and says "I found the bonnet on the floor. I have no idea who it belongs to." Harrison answers "I do. I've seen her and talked to her. I don't think I could ever forget her innocence." Facing away from Harrison, Barnabas nearly begins to cry but he gets control of himself. "What did she say to you? I'm curious." Barnabas manages to say. Harrison answers "Not enough to answer my questions. She seems very afraid, and I couldn't get her to tell me why." Barnabas looks at Harrison and asks "What could she be afraid of? Didn't she tell you anything?" Harrison answers "You sound much more than merely curious, Barnabas. She didn't tell me all the answers I wanted, but I will find a way of knowing. And I will find a way of helping that poor child's spirit no matter who stands in my way." Harrison leaves the room as Barnabas wonders what Harrison's motivations are now. Meanwhile, Nicholas is concentrating on the I Ching hexagram. We see the hexagram over his face as we dissolve to see it on a metal door. The door slowly swings open, and Nicholas walks inside. The room inside is dark as Nicholas looks around. After a moment, he seems frustrated that nothing is there, but then a small light appears in front of him and begins to glow larger and larger. Nicholas smiles with his eyes open wide and reaches out to grab the light. As he does, he starts to pulsate with electricity and he gasps somewhat. Sitting back at the table, Nicholas is also flashing with electricity and gasping in what looks like pain. Willie goes into a panic, asking Nicholas what's wrong. Nicholas doesn't answer, except to say "I.....have.....it......I have.....it!" Willie starts to freak out more, babbling how he doesn't want to be responsible for Nicholas' death, since "they'll just blame me for that too!" Willie looks at the wands on the table, then at Nicholas, and makes his decision - he sweeps the wands off the table with his hands. Suddenly, the electricity leaves Nicholas and he collapses. Willie yells at him "Blair! Blair!" but Nicholas doesn't move.

Willie tries shaking Nicholas awake, and though groggy, Nicholas comes to. Willie goes "Thank God, I thought you were dead!" Nicholas looks at his empty hands, and then goes into a slow burn. He looks at Willie and then suddenly grabs him by the throat. "You idiot!" Nicholas screams. "I had it in my hands! I had it in my hands and you broke the trance!" Gasping for air, Willie pleads that he was only trying to save Nicholas' life. Nicholas sneers "I wasn't about to die, you stupid little insignificant nothing! I am not an ordinary man.....but you are....and you, Willie, CAN die!" Nicholas tightens his grip as Willie struggles. Willie gasps "Please....don't....you can try it again...." Nicholas angrily says "How can I try it again?" Willie says "You should get the same hexagram if you're supposed to, isn't that what you said?" Nicholas thinks a moment, and then drops Willie to the floor. "You may be right," Nicholas says as Willie holds his neck, trying to recover. Nicholas looks at Willie and says "Gather the wands, Willie. And this time, if you interrupt me, you will suffer a fate far worse than death." Willie starts to gather the wands from the floor as we cut to a flute being picked up off the ground in the woods. It's Sarah, and she starts to play "London Bridge" while sitting on a rock. From behind her, Harrison appears, who watches her for a while until she stops playing. She turns and sees him and begins to run away, but he pleads "Please, Sarah... don't be afraid of me." She stops and looks him over. "I heard you playing. You play very well." Sarah says "Thank you." Harrison moves a little closer and says "I'm glad I heard you playing your song because I was looking for you." Sarah says "Yes, I know you were." Harrison says "You knew? Does that mean you're not afraid of me?" Sarah says "I don't know." "Will you be afraid of me if I ask you something?" Harrison says. Sarah answers "I have to ask you something first. Then you can ask me. That's fair, you know." Harrison says "Okay, what did you want to ask me?" Sarah says "Do you promise to tell the truth?" Harrison says yes. Sarah asks "Why did you bring Vicky back here?" Harrison thinks a moment and says "You like Vicky, don't you Sarah?" Sarah nods. Harrison sighs and says "Well, I wanted to help her. I didn't want her to get hurt. I helped her by bringing her here. Do you believe me?" Sarah says "I guess so." Harrison says "I'd like to help you too, Sarah, if you'll let me." Sarah looks confused and asks "What could you help me with?" Harrison answers "Well, I'd like to know why you're afraid." Sarah laughs and says "I'm not afraid! I'm too big to get afraid!" Harrison smiles and says "I'm sure you are. But you promised me you answer my question, and now I know if you're not afraid of anything you won't be scared to answer, is that right?" Sarah says "I guess so." Harrison says "Good. Then tell me Sarah, please - why are you afraid of Barnabas?" Sarah doesn't answer.

Episode 1363

Aired: Wednesday September 15, 1971

Alexandra Moltke's voiceover: "My name is Victoria Winters. Many mysteries have been thrust into my life, some of which have revealed the dark hidden secrets of the past while others have only obscured other truths. On this night, I have gathered several of my closest friends to help me unravel one of the biggest mysteries of all....what happened to me in the past and why...."

Vicky answers the door at Collinwood and lets in Sebastian. He hangs up his raincoat and shakes off the thunderstorm raging outside. "Why did you insist on dragging me out of my warm house on such a night?" he says. Vicky apologies, and adds "We couldn't seem to find Professor Stokes, and Barnabas recommended you as the next best thing." Sebastian smiles and says "Well, I suppose I should be flattered, although I don't know what I'm the next best thing for." Vicky looks at him and answers "For a seance. I need to contact someone I knew long, long ago." Sebastian raises an eyebrow.

After the titles, Vicky leads Sebastian into the drawing room where Carolyn and Barnabas are waiting. Sebastian asks who they are trying to contact, and Vicky says "A man named Peter Bradford." When Sebastian asks how long ago he died and Vicky answers "almost two hundred years ago" Sebastian looks at her, puzzled, and asks "And you knew him?" Vicky answers "We've both drifted through time. I returned here, alive. I think that he may know the reasons why and how." Carolyn tells Sebastian she'll explain all about Vicky's past later, and that they should start the seance "before Uncle Roger gets back from town. He doesn't have an affinity for such activities." They arrange the chairs and Vicky takes Barnabas' hand. "Vicky, you're trembling," he says. "Please don't be afraid. We won't let you go." Vicky nods and says she believes him, just that the seance brought back some "bad feelings." Sebastian puts the lights out and lights a candle and the four join hands. Sebastian begins to call upon the spirit of Peter Bradford, and for the spirit to "come forth and appear to us." The candles blow out and the windows of the drawing room blow open. Sebastian continues to call for Peter Bradford, but suddenly he starts to groan. Carolyn shouts over the howling wind "Sebastian! What is it? Barnabas shouts "He is in a trance! Do not break the circle!" Sebastian closes his eyes and moans some more, and then asks "Who has called me?" Barnabas looks at Vicky, who is too scared to say anything, and then says "We have called you. Who are you? Tell us!" Sebastian says "I.....am Peter Bradford!" Vicky says "Peter! Peter! It's me, Vicky!" Sebastian answers "Vicky! Vicky....how I've longed for you...." which makes Barnabas a bit uncomfortable. But Sebastian continues "Vicky....where are you? I cannot see you...." Vicky answers "I am at Collinwood, Peter. I am at Collinwood in the year 1971!" Sebastian answers "You have returned to your own time? Then they did not succeed...." Barnabas interrupts "Who? Who did not succeed?" Sebastian continues "They who would destroy the Collins family......they must not succeed......" Carolyn asks "Who are they, Peter? Who wants to destroy the Collins family?" Vicky asks "Did they try to destroy me in the past?" Barnabas cautions them on not asking too many questions at once as Sebastian groans again, but then starts to say "They tried to take you from me, Vicky....but I will find my way back to you again, I swear...." Vicky tears up a bit and says "Peter, I am safe now....don't endanger yourself for me." Sebastian answers "You are still in danger. The Collins family is still in danger. The threat is not over. Even now, they plot to destroy you...." Vicky asks "Who? Tell us the name, Peter!" Sebastian starts to say "The enemy of the Collins family....the enemy since the beginning of the family itself....." Carolyn asks "The beginning? What do you mean?" But suddenly, there is a flash of lightning and Vicky screams as the room goes black. We hear Barnabas yell "Vicky!"

Carolyn is turning on the lights and Vicky is out of breath. Sebastian is groaning, still. Barnabas asks Vicky if she is all right, and she says she is fine. "Why did you scream?" Carolyn asks. Vicky says she's not sure, only "I thought I felt something...something pulling at me." Barnabas asks what it was, and Vicky answers "I'm not sure. It felt like a human hand." Sebastian catches his breath, and says he's all right, and asks what happened. "I was calling the spirit, and everything went black." Barnabas answers "You were in a trance. We were successful, to a degree." Carolyn asks Vicky "Vicky, what touched you? Was it Peter's spirit?" Vicky shakes her head no, and answers "No, it wasn't Peter. It was a hand, on my shoulder, pulling at me. It seemed so icy, but somehow so icy it...burned!" She gets scared again, and Barnabas tells her that it's all over now. Vicky answers "How can it be over after what we heard?" Carolyn agrees, saying "We didn't hear enough." Barnabas disagrees, saying "I think we've learned something very important. Whatever or whomever was trying to chase Vicky off Widow's Hill in the past is very much our enemy now." Sebastian says he doesn't understand how that helps to solve anything. Barnabas answers "One thing has been solved. Vicky was attacked because she is a Collins. If the Collins family has had the same enemy since the beginning, that enemy might be more easily identified by reviewing the family history." Carolyn asks "What do you think Peter meant by 'the beginning' Barnabas?" Barnabas answers "I'm not sure. It may mean the beginning of whatever enemy there is, or....." Vicky finishes the thought with "....perhaps the beginning of the Collins family as we know it." Barnabas looks at her, curious, as Vicky continues "I don't know why I know that....it's as if I just remembered it." Barnabas answers "Perhaps you did know more, as Peter Bradford did, but you lost these memories when you returned from the past." Carolyn sits next to Vicky and says "Vicky, that means you may have the answers locked up in your memories!" Vicky says she has no idea how to get them out, but Carolyn looks at Barnabas and says "I do. Barnabas, we don't need to hold any more seances. We need Julia Hoffman." Barnabas nods.

Julia is in her office at Windcliff reviewing some papers in a file folder. Her intercom buzzes and Julia answers "Yes, please show her in." A nurse comes in, leading a catatonic-looking Maggie Evans (Kathryn Leigh Scott) into Julia's office. Julia smiles and says hello to Maggie, who says nothing. "Thank you, nurse, that will be all," Julia says as she leads Maggie to a couch and lays her down. Julia takes out her jeweled medallion and begins to wave it in front of Maggie, who starts to stare at it. Julia tells her to concentrate on the "pretty jewels" and to watch the "lights dance before your eyes." Julia puts Maggie into a state of hypnosis and Maggie closes her eyes. "Maggie, listen to me. This is Dr. Hoffman," Julia says. Maggie repeats "Dr. Hoffman." Julia continues "Maggie, I want you to open your eyes and you will be just as you were the last time I made you sleep like this." Maggie opens her eyes and says "The last time...." Julia smiles and says "Yes, the same way we did yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before. You remember, Maggie..." Maggie says "I remember Maggie....I remember me!" Julia says "Yes, you remember who you are. Tell me who you are." In her normal voice, Maggie answers "I'm Maggie Evans. That's a silly question! You know me, Julia! We've known each other for years!" Julia says "Yes, we have. But sometimes you don't remember." Maggie answers "My memory....so many things are in my memories that I've forgotten.... so many things that I want to forget." Julia answers "I know. But we need to help you to remember, Maggie. We need to help you to remember so that you can remember when you are awake." Maggie says "I want to remember, Julia. I really do!" Julia asks "Then tell me...what do you remember about Roxanne Drew?" Maggie gets scared, and Julia says "It's all right, she cannot hurt you now. She can never hurt you again. But if you can remember Roxanne, it should unlock your other memories, and free your personality when you are awake. Do you understand?" Maggie nods, and says "I remember the feeling I had....I had lost all control of myself...." Julia says "Good...what else do you remember?" Maggie suddenly gets scared and says "I remember what she is! What she did to me!" Julia says "Good, Maggie. Only remember she can never harm you again. Do you think you can remember that when you are awake?" Maggie says "Wait...I'm remembering something else... what Roxanne did to me.... it wasn't the first time!" Julia starts to look more concerned, and Maggie continues "Someone else did the same thing to me! They robbed me of my will, put me under their power.... I'm remembering who....I'm remembering!" Julia takes out the medallion again and tells Maggie to watch the jewels and lights, but Maggie goes on talking about how she's remembering more and more. Julia tells her to stop remembering "too much" since it might "throw your system into a shock" and then has her concentrate on the medallion as Julia commands her to close her eyes and only awaken when Julia snaps her fingers. Julia snaps her fingers, and Maggie has returned to a near catatonic state. Julia asks Maggie how she feels, and all Maggie says is "How I feel....I...don't know. I don't remember." Julia breathes a sigh of relief.

Barnabas and Vicky arrive at Windcliff to see Julia. Barnabas tells Julia that they came so that Julia could "revive Vicky's memory," and he briefly tells Julia about the seance. Julia tells Barnabas "I may be able to do what you ask, but there's also something else we should discuss." Barnabas asks what, and after glancing at Vicky, Julia smiles and says "Oh, nothing too important. I can always tell you later, when we've returned to Collinwood." Vicky asks Julia what the chances are of getting her memories back, and Julia tells her that "it depends how deep they are within your subconscious. If we have enough cues to inspire them, perhaps we can draw more of them out." Vicky answers that they should have learned enough at the seance to "have enough memory cues." Vicky notices the file on Julia's desk and sees Maggie Evans' name on it. Vicky asks about Maggie and how she is doing. Julia says "I'm not sure... she has been in a catatonic state for over a year now. She had quite a shock to her system and it will take her a long while to recover." Barnabas asks if anything can be done to restore Maggie's personality, and Julia answers that "Moving too fast with Maggie may....do more damage than good." Vicky asks if she can see her, and Julia says "Well, I'm not sure if that would be a good idea, Vicky. She probably won't even recognize you." Vicky answers "Perhaps she might. Maybe it will bring her personality back a little if she sees me again." Barnabas agrees, and despite Julia's hesitation, suggests they go see Maggie. Julia calls the nurse and tells her to take Vicky up to see Maggie alone, since "seeing both of you together may be too much for her. Whenever you're ready to come back here Vicky, we'll be here." Vicky goes with the nurse. Barnabas asks Julia why she was so hesitant to let him see Maggie, and that "it's imperative that Maggie's personality be restored so that she can help us fight Nicholas Blair." Julia snaps "Barnabas, it's not that simple! I've been placing Maggie under hypnosis, and under hypnosis her personality and memory are returning. There's only the final stage left, where that personality and memory can be transferred to her conscious state from her subconscious." Barnabas replies "Then what is the problem?" Julia answers "I'm not sure I want to let that happen." Barnabas, shocked, asks "Why not?" Julia answers "Because remembering what Roxanne Drew was has also rekindled her memory of what you once were and what you did to her Barnabas." Barnabas is not thrilled to hear this.

Episode 1362

Aired: Tuesday September 14, 1971

After a replay of Monday's close and the titles, Harrison gets out of bed and slams Willie up against the wall. "So, you want my ring, do you Loomis? Is it really you who wants my ring, or someone else?" Willie chokes a bit, and Harrison loosens up. "I don't know what you mean," Willie says. Harrison answers "Don't you? I think you'd better start talking if you want to keep the police out of this." Willie gets scared. "P...pp...Police?" Harrison sneers "Y...yyy...yes, Willie. Now tell me who sent you here." Willie snaps "How can you be awake? I put the chloroform over your mouth while you slept!" Harrison shakes his head and answers "I saw you behind the curtain long before I went to bed. I pretended to be asleep and held my breath when you tried to chloroform me, you idiot! Now tell me why Barnabas wants my ring before we involve the police!" Willie is confused and answers "Barnabas? Barnabas doesn't want your ring." Harrison answers "Don't talk to me like I'm as stupid as you, Loomis. You work for Barnabas. Who else would have sent you here?" Willie answers "I told ya, no one sent me here. Really!" Harrison drops Willie to his feet and snarls "I can see I won't get any answers from you." Willie runs in front of him and pleads "Please, don't call the cops. I'm sorry. I can't help it....I love jewelry. I always want to take it..... you can ask Barnabas! You can even ask Mrs. Stoddard! Yeah! When I first came here, I got caught stealin' some jewels! I thought I was cured....I guess I'm not. I saw that jewel in your ring, and I couldn't help myself! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry....I need help! That's it! I need help!" Harrison shakes his head and says "You're not worth the police, Loomis. Get out of here." Willie smiles and says "Honest? You won't call the cops?" Harrison says "No, get out of here before I change my mind." Willie apologizes and says he'll never bother him again. Harrison grabs Willie's arm before he leaves and holds up his hand with the ring. "I know you won't, Willie. You just tell Barnabas that this ring never leaves my hand." Willie says "Barnabas? Why should I tell Barnabas that?" Harrison pushes Willie out his door with a snarl. Willie stands outside as the door closes and locks and wonders why Harrison suspects Barnabas.

The next morning, Vicky is standing by the fountain when Barnabas comes down from the patio. He thanks her for inviting him to breakfast, and Vicky tells him that it's because she needs "to tell him something very important." "Oh?" he says, and when Vicky tells him "I saw Sarah last night," he gasps. "Where?" he asks, adding "What did she say?" Vicky says "She didn't say anything about you, Barnabas. And when I asked her, well...she...." Barnabas asks "She what? Please, tell me." Vicky sadly looks at Barnabas and says "She seemed afraid of you, Barnabas. Why would she be afraid to talk to you?" Barnabas turns away from Vicky and says "I don't know. Perhaps she's confused by me being here now." Vicky says "Yes, that's what I thought. That's what I told Harrison, at least." Barnabas turns to her, curious now. "Harrison?" he asks with a frown. Vicky tells Barnabas how Harrison had appeared, scaring Sarah away, and then asking a lot of questions. "Harrison's curiosity about me seems insatiable," Barnabas remarks. "But he has seen her too. Why would she appear to him and not me?" Vicky says "I'm sorry, Barnabas. I know how much you care for her." Barnabas says "I loved her more than anyone in my family, Vicky. When she died, it was like a part of me died with her." He turns back to Vicky and asks "What else did she say to you? Perhaps there's some clue I can use to find her." Vicky says "It was strange. She told me she was glad I was all right, though she said I wasn't supposed to be." Barnabas says "That does sound strange." Vicky shakes her head and says "No, I think I know what she meant. I started to remember what happened to me in the past before I found myself in the woods. For some reason, I remembered falling....like in a dream. Those awful nightmares one has when you fall and fall and never stop. What if it wasn't a dream. Barnabas? What if I really did fall off Widow's Hill in the past?" Barnabas answers "That's nonsense. If you did, how could you be here now?" Vicky answers "That's just the point. What if I died in the past, or was supposed to have died, but instead found my way back here? It happened once before when I was sent to the gallows, Barnabas. Maybe that's what Sarah meant by telling me I wasn't supposed to be here."

Harrison is reading a newspaper in the drawing room. He peruses some stories and chuckles to himself a little when Willie comes in. Harrison sees him and scowls. "Loomis! You've certainly got a lot of nerve coming back here after I threw you out of here last night." Willie nods and says he knows. "Then why have you returned?" Harrison asks. Willie answers "I thought maybe I could make it up to ya, you know? Maybe there's some kinda favor I could do for you?" Harrison returns to his newspaper and answers "I don't want anything stolen, Willie. You may go now." Willie answers "I'm not gonna steal nothin' no more! I just couldn't help myself last night, I told ya that! I can help you with somethin' else maybe!" Harrison looks at Willie cynically and says "What could you possibly help me with? You don't even know what I want." Willie laughs a little and answers "I know one thing you want! It's pretty obvious!" Harrison asks "What?" and Willie answers "You want Angelique!" Harrison looks concerned now as Willie continues "Yeah, I see it. Barnabas sure sees it. She's really beautiful, that Angelique. I can see why you wanna get to know her, you know?" Harrison looks at Willie and says "She's Barnabas' wife. Would you betray your employer so soon to garner favor with me?" Willie answers "No, no, I didn't mean it that way, I only thought maybe I could, well, talk about you in front of her. Maybe tell her about you if I knew more about you, you know, to help you out." Harrison puts his newspaper down and stands to face Willie. "It seems your curiosity for me is insatiable, Willie. Get out of here." Willie is surprised, but Harrison repeats "I said get out of my sight!" as he pushes Willie out of the drawing room. He shuts the door and angrily walks to the window. He looks outside and hmphs as he sees Barnabas chatting with Vicky. We cut to Vicky and Barnabas at the fountain. Vicky says "If only there was a way of finding out what Sarah meant." Barnabas says "I suppose there is a chance she will appear to you again, if her business with you was left unfinished. But there's only one way we can be sure to contact her." Vicky asks "What is that?" Barnabas looks at her and answers "A seance. Perhaps we should conduct a seance to try to contact her." Vicky gets scared and says "No, no, Barnabas. The last time we did that, I vanished into the past. I don't want to risk that again, not now, not when I've only just now started to feel safe again." Barnabas looks disappointed, and Vicky suggests "Perhaps you could hold the seance without me, and you could try to contact her." Barnabas sadly answers "I doubt she would answer me. If she hasn't appeared to me, it has been by her choice." Vicky thinks a moment and says "Perhaps there's another way of finding out some answers, Barnabas." Barnabas asks "What could that be?" Vicky thinks a little more (it must be hurting her by now) and says "We could hold a seance and try to contact someone else...someone I know who would want me safe." Barnabas wonders what she means.

Willie is walking through the woods when a hand grabs his shoulder. It's Nicholas, who asks "Well? Were you successful?" Willie throws Nicholas' hand off and says "No. He's too smart for you, that Harrison! He knows every move I make. He even saw through your plan to be his friend and all that! You ain't never gonna get that ring offa him, unless you kill him! I wouldn't be surprised if you tried that, Blair! Why don't you just leave me alone already?" Nicholas laughs a little and says "Ah Willie, one can always depend on you to be an idiot. There will always be a way to steal something from someone else." Willie answers "He never takes that ring off. He knows someone is after it, even though he thinks it's Barnabas." "Barnabas?" Nicholas says. Willie says "Yeah. See? There's some things I know that you don't! Harrison and Barnabas, they really hate each other. I bet you don't know that. I bet you don't even know why!" Nicholas looks at Willie and says "Angelique, perhaps?" Willie goes into a slow burn and then is exasperated. "Why won't you just leave me alone!" he shouts. "What do you want that ring for anyway?" Nicholas answers "It's a tool for getting something I want. Something very old and truly unique. That is all. If you fail to get the ring for me, I shall be forced to find other means to get what I want." Willie laughs a little and says "Yeah? Like that I Ching stuff I gave ya? You didn't seem to do so well with that! " Nicholas starts thinking as Willie continues to try to berate him, and then forms a sly smile. Willie asks him what he's smiling about when so far everything he's tried has failed, but all Nicholas says is "Willie, you've given me some inspiration. I think I know where I've made my mistake." Willie doesn't like the sound of this.

Episode 1361

Aired: Monday September 13, 1971

In a repeat of Friday's close, Vicky smiles at Barnabas' portrait. Suddenly from behind her, she hears "Hello!" When she turns around, she sees Sarah standing in the foyer, smiling at her. "Sarah!" she says. "Sarah! You've come back!" Sarah looks at Vicky, smiling, and says "Now you know!" Vicky says "What? I don't understand!" Sarah says "Now you know the story! Just like I wanted to show you!" Vicky thinks a moment and nods, answering "Yes. Now I know the story," as she glances over her shoulder at Barnabas' portrait as Sarah continues smiling at her.

After the titles, Vicky asks Sarah "Why did you want to show me? Why me?" Sarah says "Because you were supposed to know. But I didn't want those bad things to happen to you. That was wrong." Vicky tells Sarah that she's all right now, but Sarah answers "Yes, I know. I'm glad you are, but that wasn't supposed to happen either." Vicky says "I don't understand" as Sarah walks into the drawing room. Vicky follows her in, and finds her looking at the portrait of Joshua Collins. "My father looks very handsome in this painting, don't you think?" Sarah says. Vicky asks her what she meant "when you said I really shouldn't be all right now." Sarah doesn't turn from the portrait and only says "I don't know why he did it, but I'm glad he did." Vicky asks who, and we cut to Harrison coming down the stairs. He overhears Vicky talking, but his eyebrows raise when he hears Sarah's voice. He carefully moves near the door and begins eavesdropping. Vicky continues "Who are you talking about, Sarah?' Sarah turns from the portrait and says "It doesn't matter, you're all right now. And you know everything." Vicky kneels in front of her and says "Everything about Barnabas, you mean?" Sarah looks sad, but nods. Vicky says "Sarah, don't be sad about Barnabas. He's all right now, he's...." Sarah suddenly looks behind Vicky, and when Vicky turns, she sees Harrison standing at the door. "Oh, Harrison, you startled me." Vicky turns back towards Sarah, but she is gone. "Sarah!" Vicky says in exasperation, but then looks at Harrison, who looks at Vicky and says "Sarah. Where did she go?" Vicky is too nervous to answer.

Harrison enters the drawing room and pours himself a drink. "Yes, I've seen her too," he says and offers Vicky a nightcap. She refuses, and asks Harrison when he saw her. "One day, in the woods," he answers. "I saw a little girl, strangely dressed. She told me her name was Sarah. I turned around when I heard a noise or something, and she simply vanished." Vicky remarks how strange that is. "Indeed," Harrison continues. "how much do you know about her?" Vicky answers "not much" but Harrison sits and smiles. "I'm sorry I frightened her away. I'd like to talk to her more. Have you seen her other times?" Vicky tries to lie and says she's only seen Sarah a few times before. Harrison nods, and says "Well, I'm surprised at your reaction, Miss Winters. Most people would not have such a casual conversation about seeing a ghost." Vicky answers that "I've been at Collinwood too long to let the sight of something odd knock me off balance." Harrison tells her "When I first saw her, I became interested in why the ghost of a little girl would be here at Collinwood now. I read through the family histories and found that there was a Sarah Collins who lived in the late 1700s, who died at the age of ten from a fever of some sort." He gulps the last of his drink as he adds "I'd bet anything that's who she is. What I'd like to know is why she's here." Vicky says "Perhaps no reason." Harrison smiles and answers "I think you know more about her than you're letting on." Vicky gets a little snooty and answers "I think you're somewhat too inquisitive." Harrison says "Perhaps. Perhaps you have your own reasons for keeping secrets about the ghost of little Sarah Collins. But before I entered this room, I heard you ask her why she is afraid of Barnabas. I'd like to know why you asked her that." Vicky wonders what to say.

"I don't see why you need to be so curious. Good night, Harrison," Vicky says as she tries to leave the drawing room. But Harrison stands and stops her, adding "Please, Miss Winters. I don't mean to seem rude. I admit I am a curious person, but when I saw Sarah in the woods, she seemed genuinely frightened. I need any clue as to why. I want to help her." Vicky answers "How can you help her?" Harrison answers "I don't know. But maybe you can help me. Why would a ghost be afraid of Barnabas Collins?" Vicky thinks a moment, and then gets an inspiration. "You said you read the family history. I've read it too. In fact, I read it for the same reason when I first saw her. Didn't you read that Sarah Collins was the sister of Barnabas' ancestor here?" Harrison says yes. Vicky continues "Then it's obvious, don't you think? Barnabas looks just like his ancestor's portrait out in the foyer. Perhaps that's why she's frightened of him." Harrison thinks a moment and says "Why would she be frightened of someone who looks like her brother?" Vicky answers "Harrison, I've worked with children long enough to understand a child's mind. She might be scared of Barnabas if she wonders why he doesn't act like her brother or know who she is." Harrison asks "Then has Barnabas seen her too?" Vicky answers "I don't know. But I think it's a logical explanation." Harrison pours another drink and muses "As logical as one can be when dealing with the supernatural, I suppose. " Vicky tells Harrison goodnight as Harrison adds " I wonder....I wonder if having a child's mind throughout eternity is a blessing or a curse. Goodnight, Miss Winters." Vicky goes upstairs as Harrison drinks and thinks.

Willie sneaks into Harrison's darkened bedroom. He closes the door behind him and begins to look through the dresser drawers. He stops when he hears footsteps approaching, and then hides behind a curtain. Harrison enters the room and turns on the light. As he turns around, Willie spots the ring on his finger. Harrison takes off a wristwatch and his cufflinks and puts them on the dresser, but to Willie's frustration, he does not take off his ring. Willie hides behind the curtain as we cut to a shot of the moon rising. When we cut back, Harrison is asleep in bed, his ringed hand laying on the blanket. Willie carefully moves towards him and waves his hand around a little to see if he'll wake up. "There's just no way to do this..." Willie thinks to himself. "But I gotta...I gotta try! Blair'll kill me if I don't....or worse!" Willie looks at the ring on Harrison's hand, and takes a bottle of chloroform out of his pocket. He soaks a handkerchief with it and covers Harrison's sleeping face with it for a few seconds. Harrison's hand drops off the blanket, and Willie figures it must be safe. Willie smiles and starts to slide the ring off Harrison's finger. It sticks a bit, and Willie struggles with it. Suddenly, Harrison wakes up and grabs Willie by the throat with his free hand. Willie, in disbelief, gasps for air as Harrison tightens his grip with a smile. "Good evening, Willie," Harrison says. "I see you're still very interested in me."

Episode 1360

Aired: Friday September 10, 1971

John Karlen's voiceover: "This will be a night of fear for those who live in the great house at Collinwood. An enemy of the Collins family plots to destroy both Barnabas Collins and his wife Angelique to settle an old score. But as he attempts to manipulate the mysteries of time for his own ends, Nicholas Blair will have to overcome his own fears...."

Nicholas arrives back at his house with the I Ching wands. He drops them on a table and then takes a book out of his desk and begins looking something up. We hear him thinking "I must be sure of the correct hexagram Barnabas used if I am to reach back into the past.....yes....this one...the hexagram of change....." Nicholas says "I have no time for random chance!" as he carefully arranges the wands to form the hexagram he wants. He sits at the table and begins to concentrate, as we hear him think "I must concentrate on the symbol until I see the door....and then I will walk through...." Nicholas closes his eyes and concentrates for a moment, until we see the hexagram superimposed over his face. The picture dissolves to a black door with the hexagram on it. Nicholas walks towards the door in his trance and it begins to open with a creak. But when Nicholas looks inside, he is terrified....

After the titles, Nicholas is terrified as flames begin to engulf him within the room! The inside of the room starts to turn bright red as laughter is heard over Nicholas' screams. Nicholas grabs at his face, but discovers that it is now only a burning skull with bright shining eyes (I couldn't resist casting my favorite Dark Shadows actor, the skull with eyeballs! - CDT) Nicholas grabs at his skull-face desperately as the flames cover him. Back in his house, Nicholas, screaming, manages to open his eyes, and tip the table over, knocking the wands to the floor. He is gasping for breath, but he has escaped his I Ching trance. He looks at the wands on the floor for a moment before kicking them away in frustration. "These are far too dangerous," he says to himself. "How can Barnabas always be so lucky?" he adds as we dissolve to Barnabas entering the old house with Angelique. "Do you think Julia will try to get Maggie out of Windcliff?" Angelique asks him. Barnabas answers that he's sure she will, once she's "thought it over more." They enter the living room and see the fire dying out. "That's strange," Barnabas says. "I wonder why Willie hasn't tended the fire for our return?" Barnabas begins to add some wood to the fire as Willie comes downstairs, yawning. Angelique says "Willie! Where have you been?" Barnabas asks him the same thing, noting the fire had nearly gone out. Willie says "I don't know...I guess I must have fallen asleep. I don't know why." Barnabas scowls "You don't know why?" Willie gets nervous and answers "I remember I was down here, cleanin'.... next thing I knew, I was upstairs sleepin'....I swear, Barnabas, I don't remember nothin' else!" Angelique thinks a moment and says "Willie...you don't remember anything? You don't remember if anyone was here?" Willie says no. Angelique adds "Are you sure no one was here?" Barnabas says "Do you think Blair was here?" Angelique says she does, but Willie says he remembers nothing. "What would he want with Willie?" Barnabas asks. Angelique answers "Who knows, except that he is close to us, Barnabas." Barnabas looks at Willie and says "Willie, if Blair ever approaches you for any reason, you must tell us immediately. Do you understand?" Willie says he does, and apologizes for almost letting the fire go out. Barnabas moves to Angelique and says "We must convince Julia to get Maggie out of Windcliff. We must find a way to weaken Nicholas Blair!"

Barnabas is reading in the living room of the old house when there is a knock at the door. Barnabas answers, and it's Quentin. "I need to talk to you," Quentin says. Barnabas invites him in and asks what is the matter. Quentin tells Barnabas he just returned from spending the evening with Harrison. "We went into town and had some drinks." Barnabas answers "Really? And did you find out anything more about him?" Quentin answers "That's just it, Barnabas. I don't know that much about him but...." "But what?" Barnabas asks. Quentin continues "Harrison suggested we practice fencing at a gymnasium near the Blue Whale. It's funny....we almost practiced in the drawing room of Collinwood one day when I cornered him with one of the foils hanging there. I wanted some answers from him." Barnabas smiles and says "Yes, I remember your tendency to question one under pressure." Quentin continues "I hadn't fenced for sport in quite a while...it was actually very refreshing. He's very good. But it was strange. In a way, it was almost like he could anticipate my moves from time to time, as if he knew what I was always going to do next." Barnabas asks "Why do you think so?" Quentin says "I don't know. He's also said some strange things to me. I don't know why, but it strikes me that he knows me better than he ought to for some reason." Barnabas answers "Perhaps he is simply making accurate judgments by what he's seen. He strikes me as a very inquisitive but perceptive man, though I must admit he annoys me somewhat." Quentin smiles a bit and says "Other than how he looks at Angelique, how else does he annoy you?" Barnabas thinks a moment and says "He's hiding too much. I know he's not telling us the whole truth about himself. And for that reason, I simply don't trust him. Especially now, with the sudden return of Vicky and Nicholas Blair." Quentin laughs a bit and says "Well, I can understand how you suspect him with Vicky's return, but I can assure you he is no friend of Blair's." Interested, Barnabas says "Oh?" Quentin continues "When I threatened Blair to stay away from Daphne, Harrison stood at my side. He tried to help Daphne and even threatened Blair himself." Barnabas is confused by this, and can only say "That's very interesting. Though perhaps it was because he somehow suspected that Angelique was helping you to fight Blair." Quentin shrugs and says "Perhaps we have Harrison all wrong. Maybe we can trust him." "Perhaps," says Barnabas, "but simply because he has made an enemy of Blair does not necessarily mean that he has made himself an ally of mine." Quentin says "You're forgetting, Barnabas. If Harrison is hiding some secret and has made Blair his enemy, you can be sure that Nicholas Blair will not rest until he discovers what that secret is." Barnabas thinks about this.

Willie is tossing and turning in his sleep in his room in the old house. Suddenly, he wakes, and then looks at the clock, which reads only 7:45. He sighs deeply, and starts to sit up, but suddenly he's facing Nicholas again. He starts to yelp, but Nicholas waves his hand and Willie goes mute. Willie gasps and struggles to talk, but cannot as Nicholas chuckles. "Perhaps now you'll listen, Willie," Nicholas says. "I'm always quite bored by all of your excessive babbling anyway." Nicholas walks around Willie and says "You still need to help me, Loomis. The wands have failed for me. They are too dangerous, even for a man of my considerable power. I must find another way of learning the secrets of time, and luckily there is another besides Barnabas who may know them." Willie gasps again, and Nicholas continues "You will help me, Willie. You used to be quite adept at stealing jewelry, am I right? There's a certain ring I am interested in. A ring that I want that rests on the finger of Harrison Collins. You will get me that ring, Willie." Willie shakes his head no, and Nicholas says "No? Are you refusing me?" Willie continues to shake his head and then point at his throat, begging to speak. Nicholas waves his hand, saying "I will permit you to speak and tell me why." Willie coughs a bit, and then tells Nicholas how Harrison already suspects him because he caught him snooping before. "The secret has to do with that ring, and that dusty old laboratory in Collinwood. I must discover what that secret is!" Willie asks "Why?" and Nicholas sneers at him "If only you could understand....then I might bother to tell you." Willie says he can't steal the ring, and Nicholas tells him he must, or "face the consequences." Willie gets scared, and Nicholas says "Look at your hands, Willie." Willie is scared as Nicholas repeats "Look at your hands!" Willie looks at his hands, which are suddenly twisted and covered in dripping blood. Willie screams as Nicholas says "Perhaps you will reconsider!" Outside, Angelique hears Willie screaming and comes to his door. She calls inside, asking if he's all right. When there is no answer, she opens the door. She finds Willie laying in bed asleep, though stirring in his sleep. Nicholas is gone. "Willie!" she says, waking him up. "Are you all right?" Willie wakes up with a start and asks what's wrong. Angelique tells him she heard him screaming, and Willie says he must have had a nightmare. Angelique looks at him skeptically.

Vicky and Julia are in the drawing room of Collinwood, walking out into the foyer. Vicky asks Julia if getting Maggie out of Windcliff would be a good thing to do. Julia says she doesn't know, only that "Barnabas seemed to think he could protect her. And Nicholas would certainly stray from his plans if he were distracted somehow." Vicky wonders if it's worth the risk, "especially since we can't tell Maggie the truth. Not after what she's been through." Julia agrees, though adds that she's tired and will be going to bed. Vicky says goodnight as Julia goes upstairs, and then looks at the portrait of Barnabas for a moment. Vicky starts to smile at the portrait.

Episode 1359

Aired: Thursday September 9, 1971

After a replay of Wednesday's close, Julia tells Vicky that she "can only hope Angelique has changed." Julia goes on to say how she wouldn't want anything bad to happen to Barnabas. Vicky asks Julia "then you still have strong feelings for him?" Julia stammers "Yes....but I only want to see him happy, after all the suffering he has gone through." Vicky agrees, and says "That's why I'm so happy he told me the truth. I want to help him whenever he needs me, the same as he's helped me in the past." Julia smiles at Vicky. Meanwhile, Willie is cleaning the living room at the old house, and stacking wood by the fire. Barnabas and Angelique come downstairs, and tell Willie they will be at Collinwood if anyone comes calling. After they leave, Willie grumbles "Who ever comes calling around here? No one for old Willie Loomis, that's for sure!" as he continues straightening up the room. He hears the door creak open again, and turns around. "Barnabas? Is that you? Did you forget something?" Willie walks to the door and sees that it's shut. He wonders what is going on until a hand comes down on his shoulder and spins him around. He's suddenly facing a smiling Nicholas Blair. "Blair!" Willie gasps.

At Collinwood, Vicky and Julia are having tea in the drawing room when Barnabas and Angelique arrive. Barnabas asks Vicky how it feels to be "the mistress of Collinwood, of sorts" with Liz and Alan "on a trip to Boston to see his children." Vicky answers she's not quite used to it all, and adds "I don't know if I could ever fill my mother's shoes in that regard." "Nonsense," Barnabas says. "You handle yourself beautifully." Angelique butts in "Barnabas, perhaps we should tell Julia and Vicky why we are here." Barnabas answers "Of course." He walks to the fireplace and says "Vicky, now that we have taken you into our confidence, you need to know the possible dangers that may put you in." Vicky answers "Danger? I don't understand." Barnabas answers "An old enemy has returned to take Angelique back under the shadow of his darkness. Nicholas Blair." Vicky answers "Nicholas Blair....yes, he is an evil man. What does he want with you?" Julia answers "We're not sure." Angelique answers "He has offered me my powers back, in a limited sense." Vicky asks "Have you accepted? You can't make a deal with him, Angelique!" Angelique answers "I have not made any deals with him" as Julia watches silently, continuing "and there may be a possibility that such powers could be used against Nicholas." Barnabas snaps "Somehow I doubt that. I think Blair is only motivated by one thing - revenge. Revenge for when his plans were destroyed. The powers he would restore to you would only blacken your heart again." Angelique says "Not if I have your love." Before they can get too lovey-dovey, Julia interrupts "I think we need to find a way to deal with Blair." Angelique turns to Julia and says "I agree. In fact, I have an idea on how you might be able to help us be rid of him once and for all." Julia wonders what she means.

At the old house, Willie sits as Nicholas stands over him. "What do you want here anyway?" Willie asks nervously. Blair answers "I am only paying a social call, Loomis. Why are you so jumpy?" Willie answers "I got plenty of reason to be jumpy around you! I know what you can do to people! Why don't you just leave me alone!" Willie gets up and tries to get out of the room, but Nicholas blocks his path and waves his hand in front of Willie's face. "I command you to stop!" Nicholas says. Willie tries to hide his eyes and turn away, but Nicholas insists "Look at me! Loomis! I command you to look at me!" Willie slowly turns and faces Nicholas, who stares him down. "You are the keeper of Barnabas Collins' secrets....and you will reveal all those secrets to me." Willie, seemingly under hypnosis, says "I will reveal the secrets." Nicholas says "That's better. Now Willie, tell me how Barnabas Collins has traveled through time." Willie starts to laugh a little, and Nicholas demands that he stop and answer. "I don't know!" Willie says. "It's just too weird to think about!" Nicholas says "Tell me whatever you know." Willie answers "Well, the first time, there were these wands....these wooden wands with marks on 'em...he found 'em up in the west wing. I think they belonged to Quentin or somethin'...anyway, he threw them on a table and just sat there...he just sat there! Starin' at 'em! He went into a trance and we couldn't say anything to him! And then....." Willie's eyes open and he begins to get more terrified. Nicholas commands "And then what?" Willie, trembling, answers "He just disappeared! Into thin air! He was just....gone!" Nicholas thinks about this. "What did these wands look like? Where are they?" he shouts at Willie. Willie says he doesn't know. "Then we will find them. We will search this entire house for them." Willie nods weakly. "If I am right....this means Barnabas has explored the secrets of the I Ching, and successfully. I must have those wands. You must find them for me, Willie!" Nicholas forms a smile as Willie goes upstairs, adding "I have business in the past," and chuckling.

Julia asks Angelique what her plans are to deal with Nicholas. "You may hold the key," Angelique answers. "And that key is Maggie Evans." Julia answers "Maggie Evans! But Maggie Evans has been under care at Windcliff for quite some time now...what could she possibly do to help us get rid of Nicholas?" Barnabas answers "Nicholas was once destroyed because of his earthly love for Maggie. It proved his undoing. Perhaps it could again." Vicky looks at Barnabas and asks "Wouldn't involving Maggie place her in danger?" Barnabas looks at Vicky and says "Vicky, I promise you, no harm will come to Maggie." (How often have we heard this promise from Barney, I wonder....) Julia is hesitant, and agrees with Vicky that Maggie could be endangered by Nicholas. Angelique insists "Nicholas would never harm her. He loves her, and he knows....as I did....that the only way to escape the power of his master is to receive that human love in return." Vicky shakes her head and says "That's assuming he would want to leave his evil behind! I don't think Nicholas wants to follow the path you took, Angelique. I just don't believe he could be capable!" Angelique looks thoughtful and says "You would be surprised, Vicky. Love can do amazing things to even the darkest of hearts..." We dissolve to Nicholas in the old house rubbing his hands as Willie comes downstairs with the I Ching wands. Nicholas takes them and studies them, saying "Ah....the mysteries of the I Ching...one of the oldest tools of divination known to humankind.....and mere clay to be molded in my hands." Willie asks "What are y'gonna do with those things anyway?" Nicholas looks at Willie and says "Loomis, you look tired. Very tired. In fact, I think you should go up to your room and sleep. You will sleep a deep sleep and forget I was ever here. Do you understand?" Willie says "Yes." Nicholas says "Then go." Willie heads upstairs as Nicholas examines the wands while thinking "What do I want these for...indeed....what else would I want these for but to unlock their secrets of time? And then to use those secrets to destroy Angelique and Barnabas Collins!"

Episode 1358

Aired: Wednesday September 8, 1971

Alexandra Moltke's voiceover: "My name is Victoria Winters. When I first arrived at Collinwood more than five years ago, I had no sense of my own identity, nor did I understand many of the dark secrets of the Collins family. Those times have changed, for I now know my true lineage as a Collins myself, and one of my closest friends within that family has entrusted me with the most precious secret of his own true identity. But there remain many secrets at the great house, one of which is the enigma of a newly arrived cousin, whose powers are unknown to most around him. On this night, some of his precious secrets will be revealed as well...."

Harrison is pouring a drink in the drawing room as Quentin paces. "Stokes warned me this might happen..." Quentin says. Harrison asks Quentin how familiar Stokes is with "such matters." Quentin answers that "Stokes said he had no idea how Daphne may have been brought here from another time, if at all. He only thought that there may be unbreakable links to the past that might take her back there." Harrison says "Why would Nicholas Blair be interested in sending Daphne back to the past? It makes no sense." Quentin takes a drink and answers with a sneer "Knowing Blair, it would be just for spite. No...it must be something more. That's why I called Professor Stokes and told him to come over here as soon as he could." Harrison thinks a moment as Daphne enters the room. She seems a bit woozy. Quentin tells her she should still be in bed, but she shakes her head and tells him "I think it's happening....I think it's happening now...." Quentin snaps "What's happening?" She holds out her hands, and we see the same electric flashes we saw when she touched the vortex. "The dream is ending, Quentin....the dream is ending...." she says. Harrison and Quentin look at her.

After the opening titles, Daphne's body continues to flash with the glow of electricity as Quentin yells "What is happening?" Daphne looks at Quentin and smiles. "Don't worry....I am returning to you, my love..." Quentin answers "Returning to me?" as he rushes to hold her. "I'm right here." There is a pounding at the front door which Harrison runs to answer. It's Stokes, who sees Daphne flash with electricity. "It seems I may have arrived too late!" Stokes says. Daphne pulls away from him and says "I am returning to you, my Quentin....my love...." Quentin tries to go to her again as her body continues flashing with what looks like lightning, but Harrison says "No! You mustn't touch her when the power flashes in her!" Quentin snaps "But she is calling to me!" Harrison answers "No...she is calling to her Quentin...the Quentin of her own time." Quentin looks at Harrison and realizes this when he looks back at Daphne and says "Don't leave me...you must want to stay...." Daphne looks at Quentin and says "I must return to my love....I only wanted to say that I love you as well....perhaps some other way, we can find each other...." Daphne begins to fade with each successive flash as Quentin tries to hold her again, yelling "No! Stay here with me!" Harrison grabs Quentin to stop him, saying "No Quentin! You can't! If you touch her when she fades into the past you might kill her!" Stokes looks at Harrison and asks "How do you know that?" Quentin angrily says "Well, how do you know that?" to Harrison, but before he can answer, Daphne gives Quentin a last smile and fades away. Quentin is heartbroken. "She's gone....she's really gone...." Harrison says he's sorry, but Quentin looks at him and says "How did you know so much about what was happening?" Harrison can't answer, but Quentin grabs him by the collar and says "I think it's time for some answers!"

Quentin is angrily holding Harrison by the collar demanding to know how he knew so much about what was happening to Daphne. Stokes insists Quentin let Harrison go, but admits "I too, am curious as to an explanation as to what just happened here." Harrison begins "You forget my ancestor in this family dabbled in studies of time travel. I've read every journal of his that was left to me. If Daphne was indeed the Daphne I read about in those journals, it was inevitable that she would return to her time." Quentin answers "How can you be sure of that?" Harrison turns away as he answers "Our ancestor Quentin's theory was that no one could exist in two times simultaneously. But he theorized that time flows, like a river. There are junctions between streams, where the astral planes can cross. These are the possible doorways. No one can enter two different doors at once." Stokes nods, and says he understands. Quentin asks him to explain. Stokes answers "If our friend Harrison is correct, different times intersect at different moments. There may be another intersection where Daphne could return to us. Perhaps tomorrow, next week or...perhaps never." Quentin says "So what you're telling me is that I've lost her. I've lost her forever." Harrison puts his hand on Quentin's shoulder and answers "Forever is nor as long as you may think. Like the Professor has said, there may be another doorway in the future." Quentin thinks a moment and says "Daphne said she might return to me...." Harrison says "She may well yet." Stokes apologizes for not being able to help, but Quentin answers that there's probably nothing he could have done anyway. Stokes apologizes again, but says he must be going "since I have an appointment at the university. I will call upon you again. I'd like to discuss this much more with you, Harrison. You seem to be very well versed in these matters." Stokes leaves, and Harrison hands Quentin a drink. "I'm sorry," he says. "I know how it feels to lose someone important to me, for whatever that's worth." Quentin takes the drink and thinks a moment. He looks at Harrison rather knowingly, which gets a confused look in response. "Can you bring her back?" Quentin abruptly asks. "How could I possibly do that?" Harrison answers. Quentin forms a half-smile and answers "Perhaps the same way you brought Victoria Winters here." Harrison is stunned as Quentin swirls his drink and continues "You see, dear cousin, I still want some answers."

"How can you even suggest that I was responsible for Miss Winters' return?" Harrison says innocently. Quentin begins to walk around him while saying "You seem to always be very close by when beautiful women are lost or found through the mists of time. You, who seems quite expert in the theories put forth by our illustrious ancestor." Quentin gulps the rest of his drink and looks Harrison straight in the eye. "And it's more than obvious how you look at Angelique. I can understand how a man in your position might try anything to draw Barnabas away from her. Well? Am I right?" Harrison laughs a little, and says to Quentin "It seems I can't keep anything from you, can I?" Quentin is a little surprised at this reaction, but Harrison continues "Miss Winters returned to this time, her own time, at the moment of her death in the past. It was at the moment when the streams of the river connected. Miss Winters belongs here, in this time, her time. Daphne too, had to return to her own time. If she was prevented from doing so once the transformation began, she would have been torn between the different worlds and she would have died. That's why I had to stop you." Quentin replies "So, you still deny bringing Vicky back here?" Harrison sighs, and answers "When Miss Winters left the past and returned here, it changed nothing in the past. For all anyone knows back in that time, she fell to her death off Widows' Hill and her body was swept away by the waves. Nothing changed then, which means that nothing changes now for us. If we remove Daphne from her proper place within the flow of time, there's no telling what affects it may have on the current reality. Quentin please, trust me. You will get through this loss, you must." Quentin answers "Can I trust you, Harrison?" Harrison looks at Quentin and answers "Yes. Never forget that." Quentin looks at Harrison curiously as we fade to Vicky standing at the fountain. She paces for a moment, and then Julia arrives. "Why did you want to meet me here?" Julia asks. Vicky explains that she didn't want anyone to hear their conversation, and Julia asks why. "Have you seen Barnabas today?" Vicky asks. Julia says no, she's been in town. Vicky tells Julia "Barnabas and I had a talk today. A very interesting and important talk that you should know about." Julia says "Oh?" and Vicky continues "He told me the truth. About who he is, who he really is, and the truth about Angelique." Julia is shocked, and can only ask "Did....did he tell you everything?" Vicky answers "He told me how Angelique had made him immortal through a spell, so that she could eventually have him. He told me they are both mortal now, and he has forgiven her. He also told me who else knows the truth." Julia breathes a sigh of relief that all that nasty vampire business was left out and says "Yes...it's hard to believe he and Angelique are together." Vicky looks at Julia and says "I agree. I find it hard to believe. That's why I wanted to talk to you, Julia. I need to know if I can trust Angelique." Julia wonders what to say.

Episode 1357

Aired: Tuesday September 7, 1971

After a replay of Monday's close, Nicholas answers that he has no idea what they are talking about. Quentin asks Harrison what's wrong with Daphne, and after taking a look at the curious Nicholas, Harrison tells Quentin "She's upstairs in her room. Why don't you go see to her and we can talk about it later." Nicholas says "Oh, don't let me stop you from telling Quentin anything. You can trust me." Quentin snaps "Obviously, Harrison knows you better than you think." Harrison smiles at Quentin and says to Nicholas "I trust Quentin as a judge of character. Perhaps you'd better go before this situation gets any uglier." Nicholas nods and puts his hat on, saying "You're new here, Mr. Harrison. Perhaps you should contemplate what sort of man I am." Harrison leads Nicholas towards the front door and answers "Perhaps you should contemplate the reverse." Nicholas scowls, but leaves. Meanwhile in Nicholas' basement, Angelique and Willie walk around a corner and come to some metal doors. Angelique tells Willie that "it should be in here." Willie is nervous and is convinced Nicholas will return soon. Angelique answers "Then we need to hurry." Willie opens the metal door and they go inside the room. On an easel is the portrait of Quentin, now showing an aged and decaying old man. Willie is repulsed by the sight of it, but takes it off its easel.

At the old house, Barnabas arrives and calls for Willie and Angelique. When there is no answer, he enters the living room. A moment later, there is a knock at the door, and its Vicky. Barnabas invites her in, and she tells him that she was waiting for him to return to the old house. Barnabas asks "What is so urgent?" Vicky starts to tell him how she had always wondered about her family and "often felt so alone in the world. Until I came here and got close to everyone, it was like I was detached from so many things." Barnabas answers "We're all so happy that you are back. I hope you would do us the honor of thinking of us as a second family of sorts." Vicky begins to laugh a little, and Barnabas asks why. Elated, she tells him "That's just it! You're no longer a second family, but a first!" Barnabas is confused for a moment, and Vicky continues "Elizabeth told me the truth. She told me who I am, who I really am! Barnabas, I am her daughter." Barnabas is shocked, and can only say "Her daughter? How...." Vicky interrupts "It's a long story, but it's true. I am her daughter....and Alan's as well." Barnabas thinks a moment, saying "Dr. Slater...yes...somehow, it all makes sense. I know it's so hard to believe, but somehow it all makes sense..." Vicky looks at Barnabas and says "I hope we can stay close, Barnabas. I know it's rather awkward to think of the past knowing that we are related but...." Barnabas cuts her off with "We simply do not have to speak of it sadly, Vicky. We shall always be....the closest of friends." Barnabas offers her a sherry as a "welcome" to the Collins family, and Vicky adds "Your reaction tells me that you really have found happiness with Angelique." Barnabas hands her the glass and says "Yes. I have." Vicky sighs, and says "Barnabas, you don't know....you don't know what she is capable of....when I was in the past, I saw what she did to your ancestor...I know it's her!" Barnabas tells her to sit down, and then kneels before her. "Vicky," he says, "you are my family, and also my friend. I know I can trust you." Vicky nods. Barnabas continues "Then I can tell you that Angelique no longer possesses the power to harm anyone. The power that once corrupted her soul and twisted her heart into doing those terrible things you know all too well. I know them too. I have found it in myself to forgive her, to see her only as she is now. Can you understand that?" Vicky answers "Barnabas, you weren't there to see what she...." Barnabas cuts her off with "Yes, I was." Vicky says (surprise!) "I don't understand!" Barnabas answers "Just as the Angelique who is here with us now is the same as the Angelique you knew in the past, I am the same Barnabas Collins." Vicky's eyes open wide.

Vicky stammers "How...could that be?" Barnabas answers "You remember my sudden illness in the past, and how many thought I had died?" Vicky answers yes, and Barnabas continues "Angelique used her powers to return me to life....but not a life I preferred, no, a life of.... immortality, where she would constantly follow me until I would be hers. I.... left Collinwood for a long while, only to return when I did thinking I'd be free of her." Vicky continues "But you weren't... she returned as Cassandra...." Barnabas nods "Yes. But after you went into the past that second time, a number of things happened. I discovered Angelique's darkness came from the influence of a man of pure evil named Judah Zachary. Once she was purged of him, she changed. Only her love for me remained. She and I became mortal, and.....our mutual anger simply made no sense. The feelings I had buried for so long underneath the anger were freed....I hope you can understand now." Vicky answers "That story is so fantastic....so unbelievable..." Barnabas says "Believe it, please, for it is the truth." Vicky says she believes him. Barnabas adds "But it is a truth that is not for everyone. I must swear your confidence for both my sake and for hers." Vicky smiles and takes Barnabas' hands, and says she swears she will keep his secret. "I know you will," Barnabas says. Vicky smiles. At Collinwood, Harrison answers a knock at the front door. When he sees it's Angelique, he's pleased to see her and invites her in. She says she's come to see Quentin. Harrison remarks "He's upstairs with Daphne. Is there anything I can do for you? Please, say yes." Angelique smiles and says "You never give up, do you Harrison Collins?" Harrison smiles and answers "No, I suppose I never know when to quit." Angelique answers "Well, I need to get back home before Barnabas arrives. Please tell Quentin that....I have what he asked for." Harrison, curious, says "Is that all?" Angelique says "Yes, that is all. Good afternoon." Angelique leaves while Harrison wonders what she meant, but then Quentin comes downstairs. "Angelique was just here to see you," Harrison tells him. Quentin says "Oh?" and then Harrison relays Angelique's message. Quentin smiles, and says "Good.... that's one less thing for me to worry about." Quentin looks at Harrison and adds "And I should thank you for standing up to Blair. But I should warn you that he can be very dangerous." Harrison says "I believe that. How is Daphne doing?" Quentin says "I'm not sure...she seems all right, but she keeps talking about feeling as if she is in a dream. I'm not sure what that means." Harrison sighs, and says "I think I do, Quentin. And I don't think you're going to like it." Quentin raises an eyebrow.

At the old house, Barnabas and Vicky are having their sherry when Angelique arrives. Willie starts to follow her in carrying the portrait, but when Angelique sees Vicky, she quickly tells Willie to "go to the basement the back way. Please don't track dirt through here." Willie protests for a moment until he sees Vicky, and then carries the portrait away. "Well Vicky," Angelique says. "I'm happy to see you here. Quentin told me the news about you. I suppose congratulations are in order." Vicky seems embarrassed to talk to Angelique, who asks her what's wrong. Barnabas says "Vicky and I were just talking...she may be feeling a little overwhelmed right now." Angelique asks why suspiciously, but Barnabas kisses her and tells her "everything will be all right. What did you need Willie for?" Angelique answers "We needed to help Quentin with something. That's all." Angelique turns to Vicky and says "Vicky, are you all right? I would have thought you'd be happy to tell your good news to Barnabas...or should I say, your cousin Barnabas?" Vicky turns to look at Angelique and says "Barnabas told me everything. He told me how you've changed, how you're not the same as I remember. I want to believe him, I really do. I'm willing to try." Angelique looks at Barnabas and says in disbelief "You told her....everything?" Barnabas nods, and says "All I told her is who we really are, and how we have started over. I trust Vicky, and I want you to trust her too." Angelique is agape, but Vicky tells her "You can trust me. If Barnabas can feel about you the way he does, then I would feel very small in not being able to try...." Vicky holds her hand out for Angelique, who tears up a bit, but then takes Vicky's hand tightly and says "I will try as well...perhaps we, too, can start over. I will prove to you that I have changed." Vicky looks at Barnabas a moment, and then back to Angelique, adding "I'm sure you have." Meanwhile, Nicholas arrives home looking cocky, but then he sees the door to the basement is cracked open. Growing concerned, he goes downstairs. In the basement, Nicholas marches straight to the metal door to the side room, and after entering, sees the empty easel where Quentin's portrait once was. He angrily sighs and then growls to himself "Angelique!"

Episode 1356

Aired: Monday September 6, 1971

In a repeat of Friday's close, Nicholas hides in the laboratory as Harrison tries to wake Daphne from her trance. He begins to snap his fingers in front of her and tells her to wake up, but she ignores him. He tries patting her face gently, but she does not come out of it. Instead, she notices his jeweled ring and begins to stare at it. As he drops his hand, she grabs his hand and lifts it back up, staring at the ring. "This crystal...." she says. "this crystal is the way...." Harrison gets a little nervous and tries to take his hand away, saying "Please Daphne, we need to go upstairs." But Daphne grabs his ring with both hands, turns towards the area where the staircase used to be and says "Show me my Quentin...." Harrison's eyes open wide and he yells "No! Daphne! Stop!" Nicholas grows more curious and watches as the air around the broken planks begins to swirl. "Show me my Quentin...." Daphne repeats as Harrison struggles to pull his hands away, yelling "Daphne, no! You've got to stop thinking of the past! You must stop!" The swirling air starts to open into a void, with a vortex running along the outside. Nicholas watches from behind the bookcase as Harrison struggles with Daphne as we see inside the vortex the image of the drawing room at Collinwood with Victorian furniture. Nicholas can't believe his eyes as 1840s Quentin comes into view, sitting and reading a newspaper....

After the titles, Daphne pleads to go to "my Quentin" as Harrison struggles to get her hands off the ring. She looks into the vortex and sees 1840s Quentin reading a newspaper and screams "Quentin! Quentin!" He looks up from his paper and begins to look around. He cannot see Daphne, but begins to call "Daphne! Is that you? Where are you?" Daphne screams "I am here! Help me!" Quentin cannot find her as he stands and begins to search. Harrison manages to snatch his hands away from Daphne. Daphne begins to walk towards the vortex, and Harrison first shouts "No! You cannot touch it!" but she ignores him. He puts his own hand over the ring and closes his eyes and the vortex begins to fade away. Daphne manages to put her hand inside the center as it closes around her. When it does, it shocks her - her body flashes with electricity! The vortex fades into nothingness. Daphne looks around, disoriented, and collapses. Harrison opens his eyes and runs to her to see if she will be all right. He kneels in front of her and tries to revive her. Nicholas watches all this carefully, and focuses on Harrison's ring as Harrison tries to awaken Daphne. Meanwhile at the old house, Angelique has a mirror that she has put old Quentin's bony hand to as she begins to cast a spell. "You must concentrate along with me, Quentin," she says. "We must not only locate your portrait but we must attempt to break Nicholas' spell from here. There may not be enough time to go to wherever he has hidden it." Old Quentin nods. Angelique begins "I call upon all the powers within me to show me a vision.....I call upon the powers given to me by one who is evil to do evil back to him....show me the image of this man, Quentin Collins...show me the image of him as imprisoned within a portrait hidden by dark forces...." As she begins to say this, the reflection of old Quentin in the mirror begins to fade. "Show me the portrait of Quentin Collins of which we seek..." Angelique adds. Old Quentin's reflection fades, and the portrait of young Quentin comes into view in the mirror. Angelique smiles.

Angelique continues her spell. "This mirror casts its reflections in both ways, according to my command....I command the image of Quentin Collins to be released from its portrait and return to the body of Quentin Collins....and for the portrait to only reveal the truth...." Old Quentin starts to moan as if he is in pain, and Angelique snaps "Keep your hand upon the mirror! You must not move it!" He nods and keeps his hand there, though he continues to groan as Angelique continues "I command the image of Quentin trapped in the portrait to return to Quentin.....now!" The mirror suddenly shatters and old Quentin is knocked to the floor. Angelique is surprised and gasps "Quentin!" She runs to him and rolls him over - and he is young again. Angelique smiles, even revealing that she's a little surprised herself. Quentin is out of breath, but recovering. He looks at his hands, and feels his face a bit. He smiles and says "A face that can break mirrors....but I'm glad to have it back." Angelique smiles and says "We still must get that portrait back from Nicholas before he discovers what has happened." Gaining more strength, Quentin says "I'd rather we find some permanent way of dealing with Nicholas Blair."

Harrison has helped Daphne into the drawing room and is giving her a cup of tea and asking if she is all right. "That was a very dangerous thing to do," he says, but Daphne looks at him and answers "I'm sorry I left my room. But I don't remember anything after that. What happened?" Harrison looks at his ring for a moment, and then back to Daphne, asking "You don't remember anything after leaving your room?" Daphne says "No...I only remember waking up in my room for a moment....and then you bringing me in here." Outside the drawing room, Nicholas is standing off to the side and listening, smiling. Harrison adds "Well, I guess it doesn't matter since you're all right now." Daphne says "I think I'm all right....I still feel kind of strange." Harrison asks "Strange? How?" Daphne says "I don't know....I just feel like....like...as if I'm in a dream." Harrison looks concerned, and says "Perhaps we'd better get you back to your room." At that moment, Nicholas enters the room. "Hello again. I came back to apologize for my behavior earlier. I do hope I didn't seem rude," he says. Harrison answers "Well, it was between Quentin and you. If I see him, I'll pass along your message. If you'll excuse me, I need to help Daphne back to her room." As Harrison and Daphne pass Nicholas, Nicholas says "Do you need any help from me?" Harrison says "No, thank you. You've probably already done enough for her" with a sneer. Nicholas adds "That's quite a handsome ring you have on, Mr. Collins. I've never noticed it before." Harrison gets a little nervous and answers "Oh yes, it's a family heirloom of sorts. Excuse me, Daphne needs to get some rest." Nicholas answers "Oh yes, by all means. But please come down here afterwards and join me in a drink. I'd love to hear more about Collins family heirlooms." Harrison doesn't look thrilled with Nicholas' curiosity.

Angelique calls for Willie. He comes downstairs and asks her what she needs. "You and I need to perform a small task, Willie," she says. Willie gets nervous and says "I don't like the way you said that! I don't wanna do anything dangerous!" Angelique tells him there won't be any danger as long as "you stay with me and do as you are told." Willie asks what the task is, and Angelique answers "We need to go to Nicholas Blair's house. Into his basement. When I saw the vision of Quentin's portrait in the mirror, I recognized the surroundings," she says. Willie gets very nervous, and says he doesn't want anything to do with Blair since "Blair's got some weird powers. I don't wanna mess with him!" Angelique says "I have some powers of my own, Willie. I'll protect you." Willie says he's heard that before. Angelique gets angry and tells him to get his coat. "This won't take long, and we don't have to worry about Nicholas finding us. Quentin will keep him occupied." Willie grumbles, but takes his coat. We cut to Quentin entering Collinwood. He walks into the drawing room and finds Nicholas having a drink, his back turned. "I see you're quite adept at making yourself at home around here, Blair," Quentin snaps. Nicholas turns around and is shocked to see Quentin youthful again. "How did you...." Nicholas begins to say. Quentin cuts him off with "Perhaps your powers are fading, Blair. Perhaps your masters are already growing tired of your continuing failures in this world." Nicholas tells him "That's enough. I didn't intend for you to stay that way anyway. It was only a warning." Quentin moves in front of him and sneers "I have a warning for you, Blair. You stay away from me and out of my affairs or I'll find a way to send you back into the hellfire from which you came." Nicholas snickers and raises his glass. "I shall drink to you if you can accomplish that." Harrison enters the drawing room, and Nicholas sees him and adds "Ah, and then let me drink to the newest arrival of the Collins family. A gallant and courtly gentleman within our midst, I salute you sir!" Harrison looks at Quentin and says "Quentin, I need to talk to you about Daphne." Quentin answers "Daphne? What's wrong?", and then looks at Nicholas and angrily says "Or perhaps I should ask you." Harrison stands aside Quentin and adds "Perhaps both of us should, Mr. Blair." Nicholas smiles defiantly.
