Episode 1318

Aired: Wednesday July 14, 1971

After a replay of Tuesday's close and the titles, Jeremiah's ghost is still reaching out to strangle Angelique, and his hands are about to touch her when we suddenly see Barnabas' hands on Angelique's shoulders, shaking her out of her vision and asking her what is wrong. She looks around to get hear bearings, then clings to Barnabas with "Oh, it was horrible! I was covered in....blood!" Barnabas looks up and around, shouting "Jeremiah! You will not destroy our love! I will find a way to put you to rest!" Angelique holds him tight and says she hopes he can, but Barnabas says "I only hope he doesn't take his anger out on anyone else in the family." Angelique looks at Barnabas scared, as we cut to Carolyn asleep at Collinwood. There is a bright flash of light outside of her door and a loud CRASH which wakes her. She gets up, wondering what the noise was. She walks to the bedroom door and slowly opens it.

Carolyn looks in the hallway and sees nothing. She calls "David?" wondering if it's him, but then David comes out of his room as well. She asks him if he heard anything, and he says "Only you." "Didn't you hear a crash or something?" she asks and David says if there was, he must have slept through it. Carolyn shrugs and goes back to bed. Curious, David walks down the hallway. David starts to come down the stairs in the foyer, and then sees the front door has been left open, with the wind blowing. He shuts it as Mrs. Johnson comes out from the kitchen door. She asks him what "the devil" he's doing up so late, and he says that Carolyn heard a noise, so he came downstairs and found the front door open. "It must have been swinging in the wind and slamming against the wall," he says. Mrs. Johnson tells him that he better get back to bed "rather than wander around Collinwood all hours of the night." David goes upstairs as we pan to the closed doors.

The next morning, Mrs. Johnson is in the hallway near David's door. She knocks on it and tells him to come downstairs for his breakfast. From inside, he yells "in a minute" and she walks back down the hallway. As she turns the corner, she sees a linen closet door open, and towels and sheets strewn all over the floor. "Mercy!" she says as she walks over and starts to pick the stuff up. David comes by, and Mrs. Johnson asks him what happened. He says he doesn't know what she means, and she says "Well, someone certainly made a pig sty out of this closet! Look at this! All the towels and sheets have been thrown around every which way!" David says he has no idea what happened. Mrs. Johnson sees a sheet on the floor and angrily says "Oh no! Look at that!" We see a footprint on the white sheet with a pointy toe. "That kind of mark will take forever to get out! David Collins, you'll be the death of me!" says Mrs. Johnson (a dangerous thing to say on this show). David gets defensive and says he had nothing to do with the mess in the closet, and that "I don't have a shoe like that. I've never even seen a shoeprint like that before." Mrs. Johnson angrily tells him to get downstairs and eat his breakfast already as she cleans up.

David finds Quentin and Daphne downstairs, and asks them if they think Angelique had really seen a ghost at the wedding. Quentin asks him why he thinks she did, and David answers "I don't know. It just seemed strange that she and Professor Stokes got nervous like they did when my father joked about it. What was Professor Stokes holding up? It looked like some kind of weird jewelry or something. I should look it up in one of Carolyn's books on the occult." Daphne tells David she thinks his imagination is getting the better of him. David insists that ghosts are real and that he's seen them. Quentin gets a bit uncomfortable, then looks at Daphne and gets more uncomfortable, and tries to change the subject by asking if David has taken the photographs in the woods that he was supposed to for Daphne's lessons on birds. David says no, and Quentin tells him that he should take his camera and take pictures of "at least a half a dozen different kinds of birds before you come back. If you do, I'll take you into the village for lunch. Deal?" David smiles and says yes, and runs to get his camera. Daphne tells Quentin that he's "good with children" and Quentin answers "Only for purely selfish reasons" before kissing her. We cut to David wandering in the woods with his camera. He takes a picture pointing the camera up a tree, but then hears someone's footsteps in the leaves behind him. When he turns, he hears a familiar "Hello." His jaw drops as he sees the little girl in her Colonial dress standing before him. "Sarah!" he says.
