Episode 1274

Aired: Thursday May 13, 1971

After a replay of yesterday's close and the titles, David comes downstairs to the waiting Barnabas and Quentin. Quentin tells David he has something very important for him to do, and David wonders what. Quentin sits him down and tells him "It turns out Anderson is an old enemy of mine from a long time ago. He's come here to take revenge on the family." David asks "Was he a vampire when you first met him?" Quentin answers "No, but he did have some strange powers. He can be very dangerous, David, I want you to truly understand that before you answer the question I'm going to ask you." David looks thoughtfully at Quentin for a moment and says "You're going to ask me if I still want to help you fight him." Quentin says yes, and David stands up, saying "You know I want to help you. I've got to save my father and Carolyn and Aunt Elizabeth from him. He made them so different when I saw them at that house...so evil." Quentin tells him that he needs to show them where the house is, during the day. "I can take you there," David says, "but what if he's hiding at Collinwood? Someone should go there too!" Barnabas agrees, and says that he and Julia will search through Collinwood while trying to avoid the family, and Quentin and David can go to the house where Anderson was.

Barnabas and Julia arrive at Collinwood, and it seems empty. They enter the drawing room and find only Anderson's brandy glass sitting on the table with a small amount left in it. "I see Petofi has made himself quite at home here," Barnabas sneers. "We need to search every room in this house." Julia points out how many rooms there are, along with secret corridors and passageways, and that she "doesn't know where to begin." Barnabas suggests the basement, since it's the darkest. Meanwhile, Quentin and David are making their way through the woods towards the other house. David tells Quentin it's not too far ahead, and then asks "What will we do when we find him?" Quentin puts his hand on David's shoulder and says "You better let me handle that part, David." David starts to realize what they must do.

Back at Collinwood, a search of the basement has yielded nothing. Julia suggests a search through some of the unrestored parts of the west wing, and Barnabas says that they should also search the tower room as well, remembering how his father had secluded him there for safety "a long long time ago." Julia looks through some empty rooms in the west wing and Barnabas finds an empty tower room as well. They call to each other before meeting in the foyer, and agree that Anderson/Petofi is not at Collinwood. "It would be too obvious a place, even for a brazen man such as him," Barnabas notes. "Perhaps Quentin and David are having better luck," Julia says. Back in the woods, Quentin and David have reached the other house and are sneaking inside the same window. As they enter, they hear the noise of someone moving in the other room.

David and Quentin carefully move towards the room where they heard the noise, and David whispers that it's the same room where he saw the coffins. But when they enter, the room is empty, except for some marks on the floor that indicate that two coffins were certainly there. "We're too late," says Quentin, and then they hear the cackling laughter of Carolyn, who is standing behind them. "Yes, too late indeed!" she says. "And tonight, it will be too late for all of you!" She continues laughing as Quentin looks at her frustrated and David looks at her frightened.
