Episode 1336

Aired: Monday August 9, 1971

In a replay of Friday's close, Harrison is walking in the woods when he hears the sound of footsteps. He turns, and standing behind him is Sarah. "You!" he says. He takes a step towards her, but she takes a step backwards quickly. Harrison starts to bend down, saying "No, please don't go. Don't be afraid of me. I want to talk to you. Is that okay?" Sarah looks at him sternly and only says "You're not supposed to be here" while shaking her head. Harrison looks uncomfortable.

After the titles, Harrison asks Sarah "Where am I supposed to be then?" Sarah says nothing, and Harrison continues "Where are you supposed to be? Maybe I can help you." Sarah insists she isn't lost and says "I know where I live." Harrison asks where, and Sarah simply says "over there" without pointing to anything. "I still don't know your name," Harrison says. "Mine is Harrison. Harrison Collins." Sarah looks at him again and repeats "You're not supposed to be here." Harrison starts to say "Please, you've got to let me try..." when he hears footsteps in back of him. He stands and turns to see who it is, and when he turns back again, Sarah is gone. He moves towards where she was standing and simply says "Gone..." The footsteps in back of him get louder, and he turns to see that it's Angelique. She asks him who he was talking to, and Harrison answers "A little girl was out here. I think she was lost." Angelique gets a bit concerned and says "There aren't any little girls on the estate. She must have been lost." Harrison remarks how she was dressed strangely, in "an old fashioned dress. Have you ever seen anyone like that playing out here? She said she lived nearby." Angelique lies that she hasn't, and changes the subject by asking Harrison to walk her to Collinwood. He happily agrees, and as they walk away, we pan over and see Sarah watching them from behind some trees.

Barnabas arrives at Collinwood and meets up with Quentin in the drawing room. Barnabas asks Quentin if he learned anything about Harrison, and Quentin remarks that he learned that Harrison is "not too bad a fencer." Quentin goes on to explain to Barnabas Harrison's story of his past, and Barnabas says that "it sounds reasonable." Quentin asks Barnabas why he doubts Harrison so much, and Barnabas answers that some of the things Harrison has said and done have been "very strange, as if he already knew about the family before meeting us. Willie discovered that practically all of his clothes were brand new as well." Quentin laughs and says "All that proves is that he wanted to dress to impress the mighty Collins family of Maine." "Perhaps," Barnabas answers. Quentin asks Barnabas if the real reason he distrusts Harrison is because of Harrison's attraction to Angelique. Barnabas admits that "it's something else about the man I don't like." At that moment, Harrison and Angelique arrive, and Barnabas glares at him when he enters.

Barnabas possessively takes Angelique by the hand, though she thanks Harrison for seeing her there. Barnabas thanks him icily and says he needs to talk to "my wife" alone. Harrison goes upstairs, and Barnabas leads Angelique into the drawing room. Angelique tells Barnabas to stop being jealous for a moment, and to listen since "I think Harrison saw Sarah in the woods." Barnabas is stunned to hear this, and asks why she thinks so. She answers that he was talking to a strangely dressed little girl who vanished, so who else could it be? Barnabas wonders why Sarah would appear to Harrison and not him. "Why hasn't she forgiven me? Why must she appear to others, even a near stranger to Collinwood?" he whines. Angelique says she doesn't know, but she didn't want to tell Harrison anything since it "might have betrayed our secrets." Barnabas kisses her as Quentin reenters the room. He tells Angelique he's glad she's here, since "I have to ask you about something that I think you have expertise in." She wonders what he means.

Quentin tells Angelique and Barnabas about Stokes' theory that Daphne may be a reanimated soul from the past. Angelique asks why she would know anything about that, and Quentin answers that "If Petofi had the powers to do that, I thought maybe you would understand those powers since you once had similar ones." Angelique says that "such spells required great power" and that she never attempted one since she wasn't sure if it would work. "Judah Zachary taught me such a spell once, in another time, in another life....I prefer not to think about those days..." she says. Quentin says he needs to know if such spells last, since he's afraid to tell Daphne the truth if it means she will "soon vanish back into the past." Angelique doesn't know how to answer him when Stokes and Daphne arrive. Daphne looks at Quentin and says that Professor Stokes had discovered something "but wanted to wait until we got here so that you could tell me. What could that be?" Barnabas and Angelique excuse themselves, and Daphne wonders why as they leave Collinwood. Quentin looks at Daphne in silence.
