Episode 1345

Aired: Friday August 20, 1971 (The 100th Episode! WooHoo!)

After a replay of Thursday's close, as the doorknob continues to turn, Julia quickly snaps Vicky out of her hypnotic state and then the doors open. It's Harrison, who says hello. He sees Julia is still dangling the medallion and remarks on what "an interesting piece" it is. Julia says "Oh yes, I was just showing it to Vicky." Harrison pours himself a drink and continues "So, Dr. Hoffman. Are you examining Miss Winters to make sure she is all right? When I found her she was certainly in a frightful state." Julia answers that Vicky seems "perfectly fine" only that "some of her memories may be repressed." Harrison is interested in this, and grows more interested when Julia coyly adds "But of course, there are always scientific ways to recover such memories." All Harrison can say is "Well, I wish you success in that, doctor." Julia thanks him adding that she's sure she will be successful. Harrison asks Julia if psychology is her "field of expertise," and Julia says that she has been clinically trained. "A very interesting field of study," Harrison adds. "especially when dealing with abnormal behavior, I suppose." Julia asks Harrison what he means, and he says "Oh, I was just thinking out loud. I was just assuming that the most interesting cases for a clinical psychologist would be of erratic or unpredictable behavior, violent mood swings or changes in personality. Something with mystery attached. Have you had experience in dealing with such things, Doctor?" Julia says she has, but wonders what Harrison's agenda is. "How do you spot the warning signs of, say, a radical change in personality?" he asks. Julia says there really aren't any warning signs. Vicky says she's starting to remember something. Julia turns away from Harrison and asks what, and Vicky adds "what he was saying about personalities suddenly changing....for some reason, I remember Peter....Peter was changing! He was acting differently! Why, Julia, Why?" Julia has no answer.

Julia returns to the old house and Barnabas asks her how things went with Vicky. She tells him that Vicky was remembering "exactly how she arrived" when Harrison entered the drawing room and forced Julia to bring Vicky out of her trance. "Harrison!" Barnabas exclaims. "We must find a way to work around him. I know he is responsible for Vicky's return. I am sure of it!" Julia says that may be true, but adds "Why, Barnabas? Why would he bring her back here? She's a stranger to him, he doesn't even know her. He doesn't even show any interest in her now that she IS here!" Barnabas replies "Harrison has an attraction for Angelique. Somehow he found out how much I once cared for Vicky. Assuming he has the power to manipulate time, it would make perfect sense!" Julia answers "Barnabas, that's an enormous assumption." Barnabas reminds her of what Willie saw Harrison do, adding "it must be some fantastic plan of his to try to lure me away from Angelique! There's no other answer! But he is in for a rude surprise! He does not know her as well as I do, nor does he know me." Julia thinks a moment and then asks Barnabas "If Harrison has that kind of power, and he has a desire to lure Angelique away from you, could it mean that he's connected in some way to Nicholas Blair? Barnabas, perhaps that's what Sarah was warning me about!" Barnabas looks frightened.

Vicky is standing by the fountain when Harrison comes by. He asks her how she is feeling, and she says she is feeling fine, though she's still frustrated over not remembering everything. "Well, at least you remember how you feel about everyone here," he says. She smiles and says how good the Collins family has always been to her. "I understand you were especially close to Barnabas. I hope you weren't too hurt to find him married," Harrison adds. Vicky replies "Oh, no, no. I'm very happy for Barnabas. He always seemed so alone, sometimes even lost in his surroundings." Harrison answers "He's very eccentric, isn't he?" Vicky smiles and says "Yes, but I always found that to be what makes him so charming." Harrison remarks that "most of the eccentric people I've met often have violent tempers for some reason." Vicky shakes her head and says "Oh, not Barnabas! He's very kind and understanding... I don't think I've ever seen him lose his temper with anyone." Harrison looks puzzled by this, and Vicky adds "I'm sorry to have ruined your theory about eccentric people." Harrison smiles and says "Oh, don't worry about that. I'm sure you know Barnabas and everyone here better than I do. I've only been here a short time." Vicky adds "Well, I'm glad you are. You'll get to know everyone better in time, and then you'll really feel like a part of this branch of the family." Harrison smiles and says "Perhaps, yes, perhaps I will." Barnabas arrives outside the fountain, and says hello to Vicky graciously with a gruffer hello to Harrison. Barnabas asks Vicky if Julia has been any help in "getting her memory back" but Vicky says "not really." Harrison butts in "I know you want to remember what happened to you, Miss Winters, but don't you think at some point you must simply accept things and be happy that you are back, safe, among people who care for you?" Barnabas glares at Harrison a moment, but then adds "He may be right, Vicky. You may want to be thankful to be back among the people who love you." Vicky looks at Barnabas with a smile on the word "love" and Harrison thinks to himself "Well, that struck a nerve....keep turning on that charm, Barnabas. You may well take care of things for me after all....."

Barnabas has escorted Vicky back into the house where Liz and Alan are sitting in the drawing room. Vicky is discussing how Harrison was right, and how she should concentrate on simply being happy since she's back at Collinwood. "I almost feel the way I did when I first left the foundling home and first came here," she adds. Alan perks up and says "Foundling home?" Vicky answers meekly "Yes, I was an orphan. I came here at Mrs. Stoddard's request some years ago to look after David." Alan says "Oh, I'm sorry. When did you lose your parents, if you don't mind my asking?" Vicky answers "I never knew them" and Liz cuts her off by asking Barnabas if he wants a drink. He says no, and that he should be getting back to the old house. Alan asks Liz "How did you find out about Miss Winters as a possible governess?" Liz says "Oh, it was so long ago. I'd have to look through old references, it's not important anyway. Vicky did a wonderful job with David." Barnabas starts to leave, and Liz asks him if he would like to bring Angelique over for dinner. He says he'll have to ask her, and as Liz tries to keep him in the room, Barnabas manages to say goodbye and leave. Alan asks Vicky where the foundling home was, and as Vicky starts to give the details, Liz says she's feeling faint. Vicky asks her if she is all right, and Liz says she doesn't know, only that she was feeling lightheaded suddenly. Alan leads Liz to the couch and sits her down, and then asks Vicky to get some cold water from the kitchen. After she leaves, he closes the drawing room doors. He slowly walks to the couch and sits down next to Liz, saying "Are you feeling better now?" Liz says she's not sure. "Would you feel better if I didn't ask Vicky all those questions?" he adds. Liz looks at him and says "I don't know what you mean." Alan looks directly at her and says "I think you do. She is the image of how I remember you. Tell me the truth, Liz. Tell me the truth." Liz shudders.
