Louis Edmonds' voiceover: "A new day has begun at Collinwood, and little do the inhabitants of the great house realize what terror is in store for them. A sworn enemy of the Collins family, a warlock from the seventeenth century, has claimed control over Doctor Julia Hoffman, and even now as the family rises to meet the day, that enemy is working against them...."
Maggie sits in her room at Windcliff staring out the window. We hear her think "That little girl....Sarah! Her name is Sarah, I must remember that! She seemed to know me....to like me. If only I could remember why....and why does that song frighten me so? It's just a little girl's song...." Julia enters the room and says hello to Maggie. "How are you feeling today?" she adds. Maggie says she's trying to remember more. Julia smiles and says "That's good, Maggie. I brought an old friend of yours here. Perhaps he can help you to remember better." Maggie answers "I can't remember any of my friends." Julia says "Perhaps you will remember this one" as she opens the door and leads Nicholas in. "Hello, Maggie," he says with a big smile. Maggie looks him over curiously.
After the titles, Roger is going over some papers in the drawing room when Harrison enters. He says hello, and Harrison asks if he's seen Julia. Roger says no, but that he knows "she left quite early this morning. I think she felt it was time to check back at her position at Windcliff." Harrison mulls this over as Roger continues "That reminds me, there's something I've been puzzled about." Harrison asks "Oh?" Roger continues "I don't think I've ever asked you what you do for a living." Harrison smiles and says "No, I don't think you have." Roger says, Rogerlike, "Well, are you going to keep me in suspense?" Harrison smiles and answers "I've been able to live pretty well from my investments." Roger snickers a bit and says "You and Barnabas both. I suppose that's one of the privileges of coming from a family as well established as ours. We have the luxury of letting our wealth work for us instead of vice versa." Harrison nods, but adds "Well, I didn't start out with too much myself. I've just made some smart choices in where to put what money I had." Roger says "Are you one of those businessmen who claims he can predict the future?" Harrison answers "I never said that. I suppose I've just been lucky." Roger goes back to his papers and says "Well, if you have any lucky ideas for me, I'd love to hear them. If David decides to go back to boarding school next year, and with Liz' upcoming marriage, we may need some extra money here and there." Harrison asks "Isn't David already at boarding school?" Roger says "Yes, but the term ends in a few weeks. He'll be coming home pretty soon, and then we'll make our decision." Harrison looks scared as he repeats "David...David will be home soon?" Roger says "Yes," and then notices Harrison's ashen look, adding "Harrison, is there something wrong?" Harrison covers up a bit and says "No, no, nothing. I was just thinking about something else...will you excuse me?" Harrison leaves the room quickly as Roger wonders why.
At Windcliff, Nicholas sits down next to Maggie. He tells her that he was once a good friend of hers, and would like to be again. Maggie smiles. "I want to show you something," Nicholas says, and takes Julia's medallion from his pocket. "Look at this Maggie. You've seen it before. Only this time, you will concentrate on it much deeper. Watch the jewels and how they sparkle." Maggie watches the medallion and slowly goes into a trance, repeating "The jewels....sparkle...." Nicholas adds "And now look into my eyes." Maggie does so. Nicholas says "Good. Now I want you to tell me everything you remember. Everything that lies within your subconscious." Maggie says "I don't know where to begin." Nicholas says "Tell me how you got to Windcliff." Maggie answers "Sebastian...Sebastian Shaw drove me here." Nicholas asks "Why? Why were you sent here?" Maggie gets scared, but answers "I.....I was attacked! I was attacked by her! She's another monster! Just like it happened before!" Nicholas takes Maggie's shoulders and says "I will not let anyone harm you, you must understand that. You were attacked by a vampire. You are perfectly okay now and will remain so." Maggie nods "Yes. I am okay now." Nicholas says "The vampire has been destroyed." Maggie says "No! No he hasn't! Barnabas Collins is the vampire!" Nicholas looks at Julia with a smile and says "She still remembers everything! I was right! Maggie Evans will be indispensable to us, once we control her mind." Julia sneers "She is very beautiful, Nicholas. I can almost understand how you were weakened by her." Nicholas snaps "I wanted her for a sacrifice to the master, and nothing more. And it turns out I was right to seek her out again. If Julia Hoffman controls Maggie Evans' memories, and we control Julia Hoffman, then the beautiful young woman who sits before you is key to the destruction of the Collins family!" Julia and Nicholas look at the entranced Maggie.
Harrison walks in the hallway at Collinwood, and then ducks into Julia's room. He starts to look around, through the desk drawers and in the closets. Quentin is walking down the hallway and sees the door open a crack with the light on. He enters, and discovers Harrison searching through Julia's things. "Just what do you think you're doing?" Quentin demands. Harrison is surprised to see Quentin, but only says "How well do you know Julia Hoffman?" Quentin snaps "You haven't answered my question, dear cousin, what are you doing searching through her room?" Harrison closes the door and motions for Quentin to quiet down. "Yes, I'm searching through her room. I'm trying to find the answer to something that is very important!" Quentin snaps "What could that possibly be?" Harrison replies "I'd have a better idea if you told me how much you know about Julia Hoffman. You've never told me too much about her. Can you trust her?" Quentin, confused, stops Harrison from searching and says "I'd trust her with my life, Harrison. In fact, I have many times! Her and Barnabas, someone else you seem to have endless suspicions of! Now what's this all about?" Harrison fumbles for words a moment and then only says "I...I wish I could tell you." Quentin replies "That makes two of us!" Harrison says "Quentin, I know I can trust you, I just hope you can trust me, that I have the best interests of everyone in mind." Quentin angrily answers "How do you know you can trust me? You hardly know me! Now I want some answers!" Harrison turns away from Quentin and says "I don't know if you'll believe me. I've had to lie so much up until now." Quentin says "Well, then start with the truth." Harrison sighs and says "Okay. I don't know any other way to convince you unless I start with some truth. Something you cannot deny." Quentin says "Let's hear it." Harrison looks at Quentin and says "Shall we go up to the attic and look at your portrait, Quentin? The one that proves you are over one hundred years old?" Quentin is shocked (a little too much truth, perhaps?).
Maggie is in the lobby at Windcliff with her bags packed. Julia is getting some paperwork ready as Maggie says she "can't believe it's finally over." Julia smiles and says "It took a long time, but it seems your memories and personality are back to normal." Maggie says "Do you think I'll be able to get my position as governess of Collinwood back again?" Julia answers "Well, David is away at school right now. But you never know, if all goes according to plan, there may be some need for you at Collinwood." Maggie asks "According to plan?" Julia looks at her and says "Oh, I meant how we were planning to ease you back into day to day living." Maggie says "Yes, it will be good to see everyone again." Julia asks "Yes, everyone will be happy to see you as well. Roger, Carolyn, Elizabeth......Barnabas." Maggie answers "Yes, it will be wonderful to see them all again." Julia smiles and says "This will take a moment, why don't you wait outside by my car?" Maggie leaves, and Nicholas steps out from behind a door. "You see?" he says. "She remembers nothing of Barnabas Collins, for the time being." Julia says "I don't see why we don't use that girl to expose him now!" Nicholas answers "Not yet, not yet. Patience, dear Judah. We want to play all of our trump cards very very carefully." He smiles diabolically.
