Episode 1375

Aired: Friday October 1, 1971

Angelique is setting up the circle of candles in the old house when Vicky enters, carrying a basket. "Did I get the right plants and herbs?" she asks. Angelique looks over the basket and says "Yes, you did very well. I just wish I was more sure about this." Vicky says "I know, I felt very strange gathering these things, especially considering all that's happened in the past. But we're doing this to help Barnabas, not to hurt him." Angelique says "Yes, but there is always the danger of what the power might do once it is unleashed." Vicky answers "What kind of harm could be done by bringing a little girl back into this world?" Angelique looks at Vicky and says "I don't know. Perhaps you're right. But we must be careful, I do not wish Barnabas to know how this has happened. We must make it appear as the same ceremony as before." Vicky says "I feel strange about hiding something from him." Angelique says "It's only necessary for my sake. I don't want to lose his love and trust, Vicky. I know you can understand that." Vicky looks at Angelique and says "It's funny, isn't it? How under different circumstances two people can be totally different towards each other." Angelique smiles at Vicky and says "I feel better knowing that now we are friends." Vicky smiles back and hands Angelique the basket.

After the titles, Julia and Maggie enter Collinwood. Maggie is happy to be back there, and takes the place in as Julia looks to see who is home. Roger comes downstairs and is very happy to see Maggie. He asks her how she is, and she answers "fine, I'm just not sure why I'm here. From what Julia told me, David is off at school." Roger says yes, though "no final decision" has been made as to whether or not David will stay at school. Julia asks Roger if Maggie could stay, "at least until the decision has been made. That should give her enough time to adjust." Roger thinks a moment, and says "I don't see why not. Besides, perhaps if David returns from school and finds you back here, it will give him incentive to stay. I must admit, as much as I was in favor of the whole boarding school idea, I miss him greatly. This house is so quiet without him." We cut to Quentin angrily snapping at Harrison "I don't know what you're talking about!" The two are still in Julia's room where we left off. Harrison answers "Quentin, please. Don't deny the truth. I can't tell you anything more about myself if you don't at least admit that I know about you." Quentin looks threateningly at Harrison and says "You, my friend, have a very bad habit of poking your nose into other people's business." Harrison answers "You must listen to me! You're the only one here I know I can trust!" There is the sound of some voices outside, and Quentin peeks outside the door to see. He looks at Harrison and says with a smile "It looks like Dr. Hoffman is back. You'd better finish your business here pretty quickly." Harrison pushes Quentin aside and starts out the door. "When you are ready to be honest with me, I shall be honest with you. You know I'm telling the truth. Think about it." Harrison leaves, and Quentin follows, closing Julia's door and thinking a moment.

Julia leads Maggie down the hall to her old room, and they bump into Quentin. Quentin is surprised to see Maggie, and says hello. Julia says that "Maggie is well enough to come back to Collinwood." Quentin smiles and says "Well, I hope this time you won't leave us so abruptly" while kissing her hand. Maggie answers "I may have lost my memory for a while, but I certainly remember your charm, Quentin." Julia continues to lead Maggie, but Quentin stops her, saying "Julia, if Maggie is well, perhaps we should let her find her own way to her old room, eh?" Maggie says she'd like that, and Julia says okay. Quentin looks Julia over, and Julia asks him if anything is wrong. "No, nothing. I just thought you looked a little tired, that's all." Julia smiles and says "Well, I left quite early to go to Windcliff, and the drive took longer than I thought." Quentin answers "Well, maybe you should get some rest." Julia says "Perhaps, I want to make sure Maggie is okay." Quentin walks away, and Julia scowls at him. At the old house, Angelique has made a small amulet by placing the herbs into a small pouch. She puts it around her neck and hides it beneath her dress. "There," she says. "Barnabas will never know I am wearing this." Vicky asks what it is, and Angelique answers "Something to increase the power of the spell. These herbs should hold Sarah's spirit here long enough for me to share some of my life force with it. If there is enough time, we should be successful." Barnabas arrives, and is surprised to see Vicky. She tells him that she felt bad that Sarah "didn't stay" and felt that they should "attempt the spell another time. Perhaps if we didn't break the circle, it might work." Barnabas is doubtful, and wonders aloud if he wants to "experience losing Sarah again." Angelique says "Barnabas, it's worth another try." Vicky agrees, and Barnabas wonders about her enthusiasm. "I don't think any of us have the kind of powers necessary to make that spell work." Angelique puts her hand over the spot where the amulet is.

Vicky tries to convince Barnabas to give the spell another try, and before he can ask her about this, Angelique takes his hand. "Barnabas," she says. "I think Vicky is right. We should try this again. You and I, in all the things we have done.....we've cost so many so much. What better way to give a life back than to do this?" Barnabas looks at her and says "There are other ways to give life back to this world, Angelique." Angelique smiles and says "I know. In time, perhaps. But now, there is one life to restore. One wandering lonely spirit that still loves her brother." Barnabas is moved by this, and agrees to the ceremony. The candles are lit and the three stand surrounding them, holding hands. Angelique begins the incantation, and the winds begin to blow. As Angelique demands the spirit of Sarah Collins to come forth, claps of thunder are heard and suddenly the doors of the old house blow open. "Come to us, Sarah, do not be afraid!" Angelique yells over the wind. Slowly, Sarah's spirit begins to appear. Barnabas starts to take a step, but Vicky stops him, saying "Barnabas! Don't break the circle!" He looks over towards Sarah and says "Sarah! It's your brother Barnabas!" Sarah looks at them but says nothing. "Sarah Collins, you will wander the Earth no more...you will have a home, and you will have life!" Angelique says. Sarah looks scared, and Barnabas says "Do not be frightened, Sarah! We will be together very soon!" Sarah yells "Barnabas! I'm scared!" Barnabas yells back "No, don't be afraid! I am right here!" Vicky suddenly gets very scared and says "Angelique! What's happening! Look at her!" To Angelique's horror, Sarah's face begins to flicker, and appears to be turning into a skull...

Sarah, while flickering between face and skull, starts to scream "It hurts! It hurts! Make it stop!" Vicky yells "Angelique! Do something!" Angelique looks at Sarah and yells "I command you to absorb the life force which I have provided....you must take it in and absorb it! Death has no place in you! There is no sanctuary for death within you, Sarah Collins!" Sarah is still alternating between face and skull and yelling about the pain as Barnabas says "I must stop this! This cannot go on!" He is just about to leave the circle when Angelique yells one last time "Sarah Collins....you will not die!" Suddenly, Angelique screams and faints, and Barnabas calls out "Angelique!" as she falls. We also hear Sarah scream, and the candles blow out and the room goes black. Vicky calls out for Barnabas, who lights a candle and says he's right there. Vicky asks where Angelique is, and as more candles are lit and the room gets brighter, Angelique is lying on the floor. Barnabas goes to her and tries to revive her. "Angelique! Are you all right? Please be all right...." Angelique starts to awaken and tells Barnabas she is all right "but very tired. I feel like...I feel like something drained my energies..." Vicky looks to the side and yells "Barnabas! Angelique! Look!" They look towards the staircase, and laying on the floor, eyes closed but breathing deeply, is Sarah. Barnabas goes to her and touches her hand. "It's warm!" he says. "Sarah! Sarah! Wake up!" Vicky looks at the exhausted Angelique and says "Did it work?" Angelique says "It would seem so." Barnabas continues to try to revive Sarah, who finally opens her eyes and sits up. She looks around for a moment as Barnabas says "Yes...look around you, Sarah. You are home! You are home with me again!" Sarah looks at Barnabas and says "With you?" Barnabas says yes, and Sarah says "But who are you?" Barnabas looks at Angelique and Vicky dismayed as Sarah studies him.
