After a repeat of Monday's close and the titles, Barnabas looks at Angelique and Vicky and says "Uncle Barnabas?" Angelique says she can explain, but then Sarah pipes in with "I'm so glad I got to come here from England to stay with you." Barnabas looks at her and says "England?" Sarah says "Yes, Uncle Barnabas. Don't you remember? I used to see you all the time there." Barnabas smiles and says "Yes, of course I remember. You must be tired after your long trip, Sarah." She nods, and says "Yes, but I wanted to wait up and see you and tell you that I got here just fine." She gives him another hug, and says "Goodnight, Uncle Barnabas, Auntie Angelique. I'll see you in the morning. Can Vicky take me to my room now? Vicky is my friend." Barnabas nods yes, and as Sarah passes Julia she stops a moment and says "Oh, I'm sorry. I should say goodnight to you too." Julia says goodnight and Vicky takes Sarah upstairs. Barnabas asks Angelique what happened, and she says that "Sarah certainly seems happy to be here." Barnabas turns Angelique to face him and says "What happened? Tell me." Angelique says "It was really Vicky's idea. I tried another spell." Barnabas gets a little angry and says "Another spell? You don't know the risk you are taking!" Angelique answers "Barnabas, I certainly understand the risks of powers I've understood for a long long time." Barnabas counters that every time she uses her powers, she may be drawn more under the influence of Nicholas. Julia chimes in "Yes, that's very true. Even if you use the powers for any purpose, a connection between you and the source of those powers will grow stronger." Angelique snaps "And when did you become an expert on witchcraft?" Barnabas replies "Please, let's not argue about this now. My only concern is for Sarah." Angelique says "Sarah is fine. What would Julia have done anyway? Hypnotized her to think she was someone else? Perhaps another cousin from England? What did I do that was any different? Even Vicky could see that." Julia says "Barnabas, is that why you brought me here?" Barnabas answers "Sarah had no memory when I left this house. I didn't know what to do." Julia says "Well, I hate to admit it, but Angelique seems to have solved a lot of problems for us all. I mean, how else could you explain Sarah? Especially to everyone who has seen her spirit." Barnabas thinks a moment and says "Everyone who has seen her spirit.... that's only all of us and Stokes, and....." Julia finishes the sentence "...and Maggie Evans." Barnabas doesn't like the sound of that.
Julia assures Barnabas that Maggie's memories of "her trauma" are completely gone, and that seeing Sarah will not reawaken them. Barnabas is not so sure, but Julia says "Besides, even if Maggie did remember anything, she thought of Sarah as a spirit, not a real live little girl. It would be easy to convince her that it was a hallucination brought on by her neuroses." Barnabas says "Perhaps. But I think we should make sure first." Angelique and Julia wonder what he means. At Collinwood the next morning, Alan and Liz are having some coffee in the drawing room. They are trying to figure out a date for the wedding. Liz says that "any day will be fine, as long as the family can all be here." Alan looks over some schedules and says that it may be his daughters' schedule that causes the problems. Liz tells him that after all these years, she's willing to wait a little longer and he kisses her. Barnabas and Angelique enter, and after the coffee is offered, Barnabas tells Liz he'd like to talk to her about something. Liz says certainly, and Barnabas explains how "a niece of mine has come to stay with me from England." Surprised, Liz asks Barnabas "I thought you were the last of the Collins line in England." Barnabas smiles and says "Well, it's a rather complicated arrangement. There were some distant cousins of mine who had some children who I looked after for some time. One was a little girl named Sarah. Her parents traveled Europe a great deal, and I was made her legal guardian. She refers to me as her Uncle, and I've always thought of her like a niece." Liz smiles and asks if Sarah will be staying long, and Barnabas says "Well, yes. You see, her parents are both dead." Liz says "Oh, I'm so sorry." Barnabas continues "I was contacted....by their lawyer, and I agreed to see to Sarah." Liz says "Oh, that's wonderful of you, Barnabas. When will she arrive?" Barnabas says "Well, that's just it. I was expecting her in a few weeks, but she suddenly arrived last night. She stayed at the old house." Liz says "Oh, well why didn't you bring her here now? I'd love to meet her." Angelique says "Well, she's very tired after her trip. She's still asleep. Vicky is keeping an eye on her for us." Alan says to Barnabas "She's a big jet lagged after her trip, eh?" Barnabas, confused, says "Yes, I suppose so." Angelique tells Liz "The thing is, we will probably need someone to look after Sarah, to see to her schooling and so forth. We thought of Vicky, but Vicky is no longer governess here." Liz says "No, but I'm sure we can find someone." Barnabas says "Julia told us that Maggie Evans is back. Perhaps this is all fortuitous timing." Liz says "Yes, that might work out just fine. How old is Sarah? Is she David's age?" Barnabas answers "A little younger. Though I'm sure they will....get along." Liz tells Barnabas she'll go upstairs and get Maggie. Alan asks if anyone wants more coffee from the kitchen, and Barnabas says no. Alan leaves. Angelique says to Barnabas "David! David will recognize her." Barnabas takes Angelique's hands and says "We don't have to worry about David any more than we have to worry about Vicky. Right now I'm more concerned with Maggie Evans."
At Nicholas' house, Julia tells Nicholas that "things are going even better than we intended." Nicholas asks how, and Julia answers "Sarah will be introduced to the family as a niece of Barnabas Collins. She'll be in the house with Maggie Evans as her governess. I suggested that to Barnabas this morning. Sarah should settle in quite nicely and become familiar to everyone around the house." Nicholas looks at Julia and says "And when do we kill her?" Julia smiles and answers "Always so quick to kill. Jungle predators play with their kill before finishing the job. Why shouldn't we?" Nicholas says "What kind of games do you intend to play? You know what the master wants of us." Julia snaps "I think I know the master better than you, Nicholas. I will handle this. Besides.... there is an element in all of this I was not expecting. Harrison Collins is someone we must deal with somehow. We must get that ring from his hand and discover its powers." Nicholas says "I've tried, but he has been too clever, I ..." Julia snaps "Let me handle it. I know you are clever, Nicholas, but just let me handle it." Julia smiles as we cut back to Collinwood where Maggie comes downstairs and says hello to Barnabas and Angelique. Barnabas explains everything about his long lost niece, and Maggie is thrilled that "someone might need a governess around here." Barnabas says "Her name is Sarah." Maggie shows no reaction, and Barnabas says "Didn't you once tell me you knew someone named Sarah?" Maggie says "Me? No, I don't think so. I've never known anyone named Sarah." Barnabas apologizes, saying he must be thinking of someone else. Angelique says that Maggie should come to the old house after breakfast to meet Sarah. Maggie says fine, and thanks Barnabas for the job opportunity. She leaves the foyer, and Angelique says "It seems she remembers nothing. Perhaps Julia was right." Barnabas says "Yes, though I wish Julia was here to make sure. Where did she go this morning? I thought she was coming here." Angelique says "I don't know. Perhaps she had some business in town to take care of." Barnabas thinks that over a moment, and then he and Angelique leave.
Sarah is sleeping in her bed, though she's tossing and turning a bit. As we zoom out, we see she is in the mirror being watched by Julia. "Yes, Sarah....sleep....sleep....." Julia says. "And dream....dream of your life as you once knew it Sarah....the dream will seem so real.....dream....dream....." We zoom in on Sarah as she starts dreaming, and after the swirl effect, Sarah is in the same room, only the furniture is older and she is dressed in her 1795 clothes. Vicky comes in, dressed in her 1795 clothes, and frantically tells Sarah "Sarah! You mustn't tell anyone I was here! I have to hide!" Sarah asks why, and Vicky tells her she wouldn't understand. From outside, we hear yells of "Find the witch! We must burn the witch!" as Vicky gets more scared. Sarah runs to the window and yells "Leave her alone! She's not a witch! She's my friend!" When Sarah turns around to tell Vicky, Vicky is standing with a noose around her neck. "You must run, Sarah! Save yourself!" Vicky says. Sarah screams and runs out of the room. She passes Naomi (Joan Bennett) in the hallway and says "Mother! Mother! You have to help me! Vicky's been hurt!" Naomi seems in a trance, and says "I cannot help you...I cannot help anyone. It's too late for that." Sarah tugs at Naomi's dress and pleads with her to help, but Naomi walks away and says "It's too late to stop him.... " Naomi walks away as Sarah runs after her. But when Sarah turns the corner, she sees Angelique, also dressed in her 1795 outfit. Angelique holds out a bowl with steaming stuff inside "Sarah, you must drink this....it will cure your fever....I made it from my mother's recipe...." Angelique says. Sarah says she doesn't want it, and pleads for Angelique to help Vicky. Sarah looks in the bowl and suddenly some drops of blood fall in it. When Sarah looks up, Angelique is bleeding from a bullet wound in her shoulder. Sarah screams again, and Angelique says "Do you know what it means to die, Sarah? Do you?" Sarah screams "No! No!" but Angelique says "We both know that you do, Sarah.... we both know that you are already dead..." Sarah screams again and runs away. Suddenly, she finds herself in the cemetery as we hear Angelique repeat "Do you know what it means to die?" Sarah runs, but stumbles on the steps of the mausoleum. She walks inside slowly, and as she enters, the door of the secret room opens and Barnabas comes out. Sarah says "Barnabas! What are you doing here?" He says nothing, but as he comes closer, Sarah sees he has blood on his chin as he opens his mouth to reveal huge fangs....." Sarah screams herself awake and Vicky runs into the room. Vicky asks her what is wrong and Sarah says "It was terrible...horrible..." Vicky says "Oh, Sarah. You must have had a bad dream." Sarah says "No! It wasn't a dream! It was real! It was real! Barnabas had a bloody face! He had a bloody face!" Vicky doesn't know what to think as we pull back and see Julia, watching everything in the mirror and laughing cruelly.
