Episode 1284

Aired: Thursday May 27, 1971

Grayson Hall's voiceover: "A night of fear has begun on the Collins estate, for in the old house, an experiment is taking place, an experiment that will have terrifying consequences. Quentin Collins has been imprisoned in the body of a member of the living dead by an enemy long thought vanished. On this night, a cure will be attempted, but oftentimes the residents of this house forget how science does not always mix well with the supernatural...."

In the basement of the old house, Storm sits in Julia's make-shift laboratory as she prepares a hypodermic needle. He asks her how long these treatments will take, and she answers "I'm not sure. This first injection should give me some idea of how strong the curse placed on Anderson's body is." Storm rolls up his sleeve and says "To be honest, I only feel a slight hunger right now, Julia. Perhaps Petofi found a way to weaken the curse in this body." Julia is hopeful as she gives him the shot. After a moment, she asks him how he feels, and at first he says he feels nothing, but suddenly Storm reels a bit and collapses into a row of test tubes. Julia yells for Barnabas.

After the titles, Barnabas has entered the lab and sees Storm laying on the floor unconscious. He asks Julia to help him get Storm into a chair and asks Julia what happened. She knows it's a reaction to the injection, to which Barnabas answers "I never had such a reaction." Suddenly, Storm wakes up with a huge breath, and before Barnabas can ask him if he's all right, Storm throws both Julia and Barnabas aside, yelling "The hunger....the HUNGER!" Julia tries to move away, but Storm looks nearly rabid as he eyes both Julia and Barnabas and says angrily "I...must...have....blood! I must...." Barnabas yells "Quentin! No!" but Storm starts to move towards them. Barnabas takes a cross from his jacket pocket and holds Storm at bay while saying "Quentin, forgive me...I cannot let you do this! You must get control of it! You must!" Storm screams at the sight of the cross, and throws some lab equipment out of his way before running out of the lab and upstairs. Barnabas and Julia follow, but when they get upstairs, they see Storm open the front door, and though stopped by the garlic, he dematerializes before their eyes. Julia looks at Barnabas and says "He's gone!"

Julia and Barnabas try to figure out where Storm/Quentin may have gone, but all Barnabas can conclude is that "He could be anywhere...anywhere the blood lust takes him. Oh Julia, how many nights did I suffer the same fate? The powerlessness one feels as the curse takes complete control of you..." Julia surmises that it had to be the injection that caused the intense reaction, since Storm had claimed to feel fine before the shot. "Why would that happen?" Barnabas asks. Julia isn't sure, but thinks that "perhaps Petofi's curse was different than your own." Barnabas gravely looks at Julia and says "Or that Petofi anticipated what we might do and laid a trap within that body somehow." Julia says they can't be sure. "Can we do nothing for him then?" Barnabas asks. "Will he have to remain in this condition?" Julia answers "I don't know. He could even get worse. He may go on killing, Barnabas, unable to stop himself." Barnabas sadly looks at Julia and says "Or someone else will stop him."

Julia looks at Barnabas and asks him if he could really destroy Storm/Quentin, and Barnabas says "Of course not. I didn't mean me. I meant Petofi in Quentin's body. This must be his plan, Julia, his plan for revenge. To make Quentin into what he was, and then to destroy it while stealing Quentin's identity! All the time knowing what our every move would be in trying to save him from that fate." Julia asks Barnabas "How to we fight someone like this?" Barnabas says he doesn't know, but that "as long as he doesn't know we know this, we have somewhat of an advantage." There is a knock at the door. Julia is hopeful that it's Storm, but when Barnabas answers, it's Selby, and he's got the silver bullet gun. "I was waiting for you to come get me at Collinwood. I didn't find Roxanne, but I have a feeling we'll get lucky tonight finding Anderson."
