Episode 1291

Aired: Monday June 7, 1971

In a repeat of Friday's close, Barnabas is still wailing "Nooooo" over his new vampire existence as Selby holds the gun on both him and Storm. "Oh yes, Mr. Collins," Selby says. "Your payment in full for trying to alter my plans. You didn't think I knew what your greatest fear was?" Barnabas, nearly out of breath says "I'll kill you, Petofi! I swear I'll kill you!" Selby answers "I don't think you will, Barnabas. I think you will be very occupied with something else." We hear the sound of a rooster crowing as the room begins to get a little lighter. "It's nearly dawn," Selby says. Barnabas looks nervously and repeats "Dawn?" Selby answers "Yes, it will be sunrise in only a few more moments. And here we have Quentin and Barnabas Collins, two vampires desperate to find refuge from the dawn... and only one coffin available. I think I'll keep my pistol fixed on you both while I amuse myself watching you fight to the death for that coffin!" Selby laughs as Storm and Barnabas look at each other.

After the titles, Selby is holding the gun on Storm as Barnabas stands with hate in his eyes. "I'll kill you, Petofi! I swear I'll kill you!" Selby points the gun at him and demands he "keep back!" Barnabas sees Daphne's scarf sticking out of Selby's pocket and then notices the ascot Selby is wearing. Suddenly, Barnabas looks like a demon as he yells "You wanted immortality? Well I shall give it to you, but not the way you wanted!" Barnabas makes a move towards Selby, who is about to fire the gun when Barnabas knocks it from his hand. Barnabas reveals a fanged smile as he lunges for Selby's neck. Julia shouts "No, Barnabas, no!" Barnabas grabs Selby and looks like he is about to plunge his fangs into him when instead he tears the ascot away and throws it to Storm. "Quickly! Tie it around your neck!" Barnabas says as he turns his head away from Selby and pushes him aside. Selby yells "NO!" as Storm ties the ascot on tightly. "I would never let your blood mingle with mine, Petofi," Barnabas sneers. Selby looks around for the gun, but then starts to reel. Storm also looks weak for a beat, and then both Storm and Selby pass out. "Barnabas! What's happening?" Julia yells. Barnabas answers "We may know in a moment! If I'm correct, we may have Quentin back!" The rooster crows again and Julia says "Barnabas, we may not have a moment!" Barnabas looks scared. "We must! We must!" he says.

Back at Collinwood, Daphne has awakened and is pounding on the locked door of her room. Outside, David calls to her to see if she is okay. She tells him to get the door open. He manages to pick the lock with a knife blade and free her. She tells him that something is wrong with Quentin and he was the one who locked her in there. David says that he knows Anderson has done something to Quentin. We cut back to the mausoleum where both Storm and Selby are still out, but Storm starts to awaken. Barnabas moves carefully, then Storm takes a look around. Barnabas looks at him, then over at Selby, who is still out. Barnabas sees the gun laying on the floor, but Storm stands slowly and says "Barnabas! What happened?" Barnabas says "You know very well what happened, Petofi," but Storm looks at Barnabas terrified and says "No! I'm still Quentin! I'm still Quentin Collins!" We hear the rooster crowing again.

Storm insists he is Quentin, and Julia begins to panic over what they can do. Barnabas holds her back, and says "Wait," before looking at Storm and saying "The fault lies not in our stars but in ourselves." Storm looks at him confused and says "Barnabas, what are you talking about?" Barnabas smiles confidently and sneers, saying "What do you have to say to that Quentin? The fault lies not in our stars but in ourselves" Storm starts to panic, and yells "Why are you quoting Shakespeare? Tell me!" Selby blinks his eyes and begins to rouse. Barnabas starts to move menacingly towards Storm repeating the Shakespeare line, but then Storm gives up the charade and says "I am still more powerful than you, Barnabas!" Storm pushes Barnabas aside and says "I will save myself in that coffin and you will be destroyed by the dawn! Your fault will lie in the stars AND in yourself!" But from the other side of the room, we hear Selby answer "But my star shines brightest of all!" Barnabas turns to see Selby standing, aiming the gun straight at Storm's chest as he fires it. Storm gasps and falls back clutching his chest. He looks towards Selby and angrily gasps "This won't end here, Quentin...not here... not now...not like this...." before letting out a wail and vanishing. Barnabas looks at Selby and says "Quentin! It's really you!" Julia reminds Barnabas that it's almost dawn, and Barnabas rushes into the secret room. Quentin tells Julia he is all right, just a little dazed from it all. They leave the mausoleum. As they walk through the graveyard, Julia asks "Do you think Petofi is really gone? Did you really destroy him?" "I hope so," Quentin answers, but then looking back towards the mausoleum adds "but it came a little late for Barnabas." As they leave, we dissolve to the coffin inside the closed secret room. We hear the sound of a woman crying, and as we pull back, we see the ghost of Angelique standing over the coffin weeping.
